I love a train. Especially one with a great view of exactly how well you are beating the highway congestion. This trip ifs cheap and has free graffiti tour & occasional wildlife sighting throw in. Demerits for poor coordination with the airport shuttle (unknown on whose side the problem lies but the schedule is STUPID) and because there are appear to be no bathroom and no concessions. Bonus points for upper level, seats facing both ways & some work tables.

I have been living in Florida for many years and this is the first time that I've used the tri-rail. I have to say it was very clean and straightforward...literally. You can purchase tickets at the kiosk or by machines located at the station. The have weekday and weekend prices. I took the train from Dania Beach all the way up to Magonia Park for $5. There was plenty of parking and seating. Bathrooms are available on the train as well. The trains however only come about once an hour so I had to deduct a star. I wish they were a bit more frequent than that.

We got off here to get to the Yellow Green Farmer's market and the gate that used to be open (connecting the two) was locked. Some riders decided to jump a fence to get to the Farmer's Market. We opted to find alternate options. First we thought we could walk easily to the market, but the path given by the GPS was not very clear. We finally opted to get a ride share and for about $5 we got to the market. Based on previous reviews, these two were connected at one point, not anymore. Sadly I guess there's a way to walk over if we get out of the station, take a left, walk on the sidewalk along Sheridan, then take a left onto the market parking lot....that whole trek would probably take 20-25 min.

It's a rail station built in Florida in the 1980s... so my criticims are based in history, as the…read morestation and rail lines were evidently contemplated to build upon the locational efficiencies next to the freeway (but does have a nice park next door... across yet another surface vehicular parking lot)... but what this means is that this station is disconnected from the more walkable areas of Hollywood and relies more on automotive transporation for the ""last mile"" travvel. The City and County do a good job of having connections (Sun Shuttle, BCT [Broward County Transit]) - but a walk downtow will take a good 30 - 45 min. As to the actual station, there's not enough benches... or trash cans. There's also so much anxiety if the train is coming, if you're on the right platform, the trains don't run late enough, and the transit cops can often be... brusque. But it's such a net positive to have rail options (with signage and audio message in three (3!) languages) in this urban-surburban-car-dominated-megaopolis. I support it fully and want MORE investment in stations like this to make it better.

Besides the Downtown Miami station, the Cypress Creek Tri-Rail station is one of the best on the…read moreline. It has a creative architectural design that makes it more pleasant to not only look at, but inhabit and circulate. My standard critiques that the station and rail lines were evidently contemplated to build upon the locational efficiencies next to the freeway exist, but at least in addition to facing a (too) massive surface vehicular parking lot, it's design is carried through to the bus stops and on the other façade, faces mid-size office buildings within nearby walking distance that it proves its utility in its immediate context. Otherwise, it is unfortunate that this station is disconnected from the more walkable areas of Oakland Park/Wilton Manors, thus relying more on automotive transportation for the "last mile" travel - again, partially but proactively made-up for with the bus/public transit integration by the cities and County. I must continue to emphasize as with other Tri-Rail stations, there's not enough benches nor trash cans. There's also the standard anxiety if the train is coming, if you're on the right platform, the trains don't run late enough. But I must say in sum, it's such a net positive to have rail options (with signage and audio message in three (3!) languages) in this urban-suburban-car-dominated-megalopolis. It doesn't work well for those with heavy luggage and it's too expensive for families. After checking in, the app dumps you into your return trip, so you might not realize you're in the wrong seat because it defaults to the wrong QR code. It's also impossible to cancel your trip from the app. Once you're able to access it via Chrome, at best, you're refunded 15% of your ticket and that's just as more BL credit. Generally, I found both stations inaccessible and inefficient outside of the fact they have plugs on almost every chair. The Aventura station had hellishly loud music and required walking across a pedestrian bridge with escalators that were extremely small for a train that caters to people with luggage. Both directions they waited until 5-8 minutes before boarding to let everyone down to the platform (the number of which was an exciting surprise because they don't list it in writing anywhere but make an announcement on the loud speaker which could hamper those who are deaf or HOH) so it was a rush and would be difficult for slow walkers or people with a cane, walker, or injury. The top reason I would not personally recommend BL was the cell service - little to no cell service for the majority of the last leg of the trip. So I got to spend a surprise 2 hours in SOS/one bar mode with a screaming baby on my train. Although my trip back was better (no baby, full 4 seat area to myself, prepared and downloaded videos, train was mostly on time) I just don't see myself taking Brightline again. So what changes could they make? Well they could list the track number on the boards. Offer pre-board to those who need more time. They could have specific trains be direct from MIA/FLL to Orlando. They could have 21+/business cars and separate family cars with stroller parking, a changing table and a small child seat in the bathroom, as well as booster seats with seatbelts. Food could be ordered via the app (not a QR code). And finally they could make sure offboarding can take place from any car. All that being said, I preferred flying and don't see myself using them again.
