In a state like NJ more and more strip malls and larger malls seem to be gobbling up all available real estate. And then installing every conceivable chain store that can pay the rent. In this town I can thankfully state that there are NO chains that I can see. Even the drugstore is an independent, that strangely even serves as a liquor store. There are about 10 diverse restaurants, several of which are 4 star or better spots. There is also a quality cupcake bakery and a seasonal ice cream shop. A few artsy stores and a few unique clothing shops round out the retail offerings. I urge passing by commuters to exit 295 or 206 and head into town while these businesses are still here. Or if you prefer to support big corporations, continue on your way. You will eventually be inundated with them. 4.25 enjoy it while you got it Yelps

But seriously no hard feelings though it's just how we were brought up, if you got something on your mind here you say it. "Tell it like it is" should be the official State motto already. And no matter what part of this uniquely diverse State you live in, the fact is most people who call New Jersey their home have an unmistakable uncompromising pride in where it is they come from.    From the Shores to the Mountains and the Rivers, Lakes, and Ponds. To the Cities, Streets, and Valleys and Farmlands some call home. To it's Overcrowded Highways to it's Pinelands and Great Swamps. We love our State of Jersey for ALL that She has got.

When she mentioned getting married in her fiancé's aunt and uncles Jersey farmhouse, I was excited to finally visit outside of a train stop on the way to NYC from Philly. Though the roads in the countryside were scary with deer jumping out and some angry driver instances, I have to say I fell in love with the farmhouse and the views along with it in Flemington. Truly breathtaking and a beautiful backdrop for my friend's gothic-style wedding. I could do without the humidity in June though! Still a solid 5-star as the scenery was gorgeous!

A cool old building but not a particularly aesthetically pleasing one. It kind of remains me of an old school inside with the narrow halls and old stuff hanging on the walls. I don't think this place has been remodeled in quite a while. It is functional though, lots of signs to tell you where to pay various bills or get the endless town forms and little benches and chairs to sit on while you wait. Of course it's also a good place to find records and information about people that lived or were born in the area a long time ago. People that are now far, far away. The clerks and other various folks working here were all patient, pleasant and useful. When they didn't have the information I needed they explained why and where I could get it. Not the most attractive building in the town but it does have it's own kind of old school charm. A pleasant and functional place to visit when you need some information.

Historically and architecturally a nice building, but because I come here to pay my inflated NJ…read moretaxes I'll never be a fan. Maybe if they lease out a few of the offices to help defray the ever rising tariffs, but I kid of course. I remember when the township library was housed here, but as the collection of books expanded, a larger building was needed. A cynical person might say that this was also another ploy to increase taxes. You can also come here to get a passport or visa, pay your sewer bill( that somehow is not part of that already too high property tax bill) get building permits, and find out why your dbag neighbors are complaining about the length of your lawn. I imagine the mayor has a sweet office here as well, where she can come to get away from the stress of all those ribbon cuttings and photo ops. Now that I'm reflecting on all of this, I'm probably being generous with the third star.

When you go in, you have to relinquish your ID. I think. No big deal. The permit people are fantastic. Hey, nobody wants to shell out money for anything, but such is life. One woman almost made me cry. She showed so much compassion to me that it struck me: I did not even know her, and she was so sweet in a sea of people who had robotic emotions or no empathy. (I am not special, but everyone deserves basic respect.) And the tax peeps- they never tired of answering questions. They were a big help. They were nice, both in person and on the phone. I almost forgot that I got married in this building. I had on a crown of rose leaves, and a teen library patron seemed struck by that. Afterwards, my dad told my husband to "take care of his baby." The police are in this building. No misbehaving. They will drag you into court. You can park across the street if there are no spaces left. The lots are tiny. The schoolhouse is still there. I hope it always will be.
