Purchasing, was…read morea bit rocky due to under prepared salesmen at the Charleston Boat Show in 2020 (some promises were made that they simply couldn't keep). But we got past that. The follow-on scheduled maintenance periods were nice. Decent availability, and they were willing to work with my timing to get the boat in and out. Come time for real warranty work. My Robalo R242 had some bonding issues with the center console below the deck and the T-top was structurally failing because of it. Michael Callahan led me on from July 2022 to October 2022 telling me that the work would be covered under warranty blah blah blah. This is nearly 40 emails back and forth of me checking every week, him apologizing for the delay, rinse and repeat. Finally, in October, Michael kindly lets me know that he's doing me a favor by only making me pay $6200 for the repairs. I contacted Robalo, I spoke with the owner of Longshore (Chris is a really nice guy), and I made sure that the issue was confronted. Magically enough, the following week the boat was on a truck headed to Robalo's factory for WARRANTY work! While the boat was away, Michael wrote me out another quote of over $2000 for stuff that I mostly did myself BEFORE THE BOAT WENT IN because I got tired of waiting on Longshore to do it. (Like $300 to secure the foot rest that they improperly installed). The boat came back to Robalo January 18th, and the only things needing to be done were installation of the GPS (was also warranty), and gel coat repairs which would start within the "next few days". THIS WAS TOLD TO ME ON THE 18TH BY MICHAEL CALLAHAN. They broke the acrylic dashboard while installing the new GPS (Stuff happens, not too upset about it. Checks with the rest of my interactions with my amazing "Service Advisor" Michael). I send an email today to Michael to see what the status is, guess what!?!? Another apology for the delay and now, their gel coat guy is "having a personal problem" and will try to get to it early next week. I am completely baffled, and I'm absolutely disgusted with my "Service Advisor" and how this has been handled. Good luck at the boat show! Take your chances, take your luck, but for the love of all that is holy, don't take Michael Callahan as your Service Advisor at Longshore Boats.

Naturally, since any repair to my boat follows the worst possible series of events, what should have been a 1-hour repair turned in to 5+ hours of fighting to extract a frozen gimble bearing and install a new bearing. Elliott stuck with the repair, and got me out the door Saturday as promised. The price was incredibly low for the amount of time and effort he had to put in to this, and my boat runs beautifully with the new bearing in place. We were in Zimmerman's care for 9 months. They helped us deal with horrific insurance issues, dock access, and even helped with a ride when we were in a bind! Even our old cranky dog likes them! This was a complicated repair with two previous haul-outs further north with two other shops that could not find the problem. My discussion with the "initial" manager at this shop, however, did not go well at all and I wasted over a week before receiving a call from the "new" manager, Cory. Wow, what a difference! I suddenly received the respect of a "customer" and a genuine apology for the delays I endured. Corey articulated a perfect plan of what was to happen next with my repair. Unknown to him, their Admin Assistant, Justyna, with her communication skills and responsiveness to all my questions as well as my discussion with John, the mechanic, and his impressive depth of knowledge, were the only two reasons I didn't walk just a few days prior to their management change. This management change, having now witnessed both versions, was a fantastic improvement for this shop and a very necessary one. The quality of work I received was excellent! My repair ranged from dismantling my starboard lower gear case POD, understanding the problem, showing me exactly why I needed a replacement, investigating excessive blow-by and fixing it without soaking me with a large or unnecessary bill, to repairing my under lights! I'm so happy with this Zimmerman shop now! This is my second service in Charleston, and I will be scheduling my work to be done here as much as possible!
