I would highly recommend anyone looking for an established studio that provides high-quality dance education to join. I became a student at CSD when I was a teenager and the previous studio I danced at closed down. Cori and her teachers were phenomenal at integrating my sister and I into the school (to the point where CSD became our second home). I improved as a dancer because of CSD's intelligent programming and caring faculty. The opportunities I had at CSD created beautiful memories for my family and I to look back on, I also made life-long friendships with my dance peers who I share many of those memories with.

This is the paramount issue as their "Professional Training Division" is nothing similar to other youth companies in the tri-cities, as everyone makes it in to the PTD if their parents go in and threaten to leave. If you're looking for reliable training from qualified teachers, and choreography to push your child, I would not recommend investing in Caulfield's hefty prices. Now, on a more positive note, if you're looking for a studio to send your child once a week, with little commitment...Caulfield is an okay place. However, the recreational teachers are not very committed to teaching dance; most have recently graduated and deal with the recreational kids as a 'first time' learning experience. I'm not exactly sure of the dollar figure that Caulfield charges as it has been some time since I have been affiliated with their fees but I believe it is somewhere in the range of $1000-$2000 a year for a recreational dancer. With the half baked instruction from lacklustre teachers, the money simply isn't worth it. I really do try to find some positive because reading yelp reviews can be very dark sometimes. Caulfield is a great place to learn to perform, as they offer many performance opportunities with their 5 year end shows. A weekend of fun for the most part. However, in preparation for the year-end shows, there is numerous extra-rehearsals, the ludicrous "Photo-Day" and numerous extra expenses that come at you from no where, with little to no explanation as to why you must pay these expenses. Again, a common theme of hefty prices with little to no substance prevails. I would also like to say "Sommer T" who gave Caulfield School of Dance a 5 star rating on this exact site is an ex-teacher at Caulfield who to my understanding has maintained a very good relationship with the owner Cori. I have trouble removing bias from that whole review as it is written by a friend of Cori's. I don't mean to be cruel, but in conclusion I would never recommend sending a child to this dance school. It's beyond disorganized, very expensive, and overall the teaching is just 'meh.' There are many other studios in the tri-city area that will provide your child with both a better administration, and a better faculty. **For reference, other tri-city dance schools are Pulse Dance Centre, Tri-City Dance Centre, Simply Ballet, Port Moody School of Dance, Vela Academy of Movement, Dance Force, Coastal Edge Dance Center, Encore Dance Poco, K & S Dance

The instructors and the staff are all very professional and experienced. Our daughter's teacher is a good fit. The class structure is very rigid. Do not expect any credits if you need to skip a week. On the flip side, the instructors are allowed to cancel with short notice for their own personal reasons. Our daughter's teacher has musical commitments a few times each year and this she misses out on lessons 4 or 5 times a year. The actual spaces can be hit and miss. Our daughter is in a small room in the basement, with very poor acoustic control, immediately adjacent the early learning room where very young kids clang and bang loudly on instruments including pianos and other loud instruments. Not very condusive to a quality private lesson environment for our child. In general we are happy.

I have taken three courses here (two spinning classes and a weaving class, as well as a short felting workshop) and have loved them all. The instructors are so knowledgeable and experienced that even in a beginner class you come out of it feeling like you can take on any project. If you are interested in the arts, this place will surely have something for you. And one of the best things about them, other than how incredibly affordable the classes are, is that they offer most of their programs in the evenings as well as during the day so those who work or go to school can still go.

Try to arrive ready - it gets super crowded with students, parents, and all the stuff you schlep with you. There's both a lobby and a waiting room with some books and toys. The past students sell used shoes which helps with supplies costs. Parking is madness, but if you keep heading east in the lot it eventually leads you to the back and from there you can access lots of underground parking. They require girls' hair to be in a bun, and they mean it. Get one of those elastics with the attached hairnet thingies. And keep hair clips in the dance bag too. There are a few little restaurants nearby (see Yelp) and a nice McDonald's across the street with a PlayPlace. A Me & Ed's Pizza nearby too. This is our third dance school in our early "career" and it looks like this one will be a keeper. They offer lessons as young as 2 years old, boys included, and even offer hip-hop classes starting at age 3! Pretty chaotic this week but it is the first week of the school year. They have recitals in June a Michael J Fox Theatre, and even the 2 year olds perform a routine! Sounds impossible, but some older students perform the dance with them, so if a kid freaks out they just swoop the kid in their arms and keep on dancing - this is a nice touch after forking out all the costs for the recital tickets, costume fee, and wanting to get a video of your kid on stage! Looking forward to the year ahead! I docked one star for the parking confusion, crowded waiting areas/lobby, and the fact that we've only been there twice so far...
