The other thing we are happy about is that the school offers many field trips during the school year (Burke Museum featured in the picture below). Also, the preschool shares the playground with Bryant Elementary across the street, which is really nice. We are very happy with our co-op!

I've had two Children at U Ravenna Coop and I think it's an absolutely wonderful preschool. The…read morecoop model was exactly what my shy child needed, and I saw him blossom in that environment. But my outgoing and independent kid also declared it the "best school ever" and wishes we could go every day. The range of activities for kids to do keeps them thoroughly engaged as they play and learn. There is a great balance of free play time, outdoor time, and more structured circle time. Snack is also done in a way that lets kids be independent while getting the support they need. And often there is a 'cooking snack' that they get to participate in preparing - they love that! I'm always amazed by how creative and fun the activities are. It's never just pages photocopied out of a coloring book. And there is always something new to try. I'm not sure how they come up with all their ideas but I'm sure glad they get to do all those cool messy things at school and I don't have to do them at home! The best part of coop are the teachers and parent educators. You see right away that this is a passion for them, not just a job. The kids and parents immediately feel that they care about them and that they are in a supportive, safe environment. Coop follows a positive discipline method that gently guides kids to expected behaviors in a way that is always developmentally appropriate. Teacher Christi is an actual child whisperer. She leads them effortlessly and cheerfully, never raising her voice or showing any signs of irritation. She is endlessly patient and understanding and manages to be simultaneously sweet and firm when it's necessary. I honestly wish she could be my kids' teacher for as long as they're in school! I think I am a better parent for having been in coop with my kids. The teachers, along with the parent educators are there for us as well - not just the kids. It is truly a learning experience for all involved and provides a rich community that is supportive and caring. I recommend this coop to anyone with kids this age!

Secondly, unlike other bright horizon location, they have never taken any effort to send photos of my baby. We received one or two in the beginning and then silence. We sent our baby for just a week because we have already booked the care for the week. It was the worst experience as a parent. Not only that my baby cry out loud, but on the report, they clearly showed that my baby didnt eat for long hours nor taking any naps. If you consider this location because of instant booking and location, please drive further to take the baby. When i complained, the teacher came out and stated that my baby doesnt like other kids. Clearly my baby doesnt like kids all the sudden after we made him go to this location. No question asked, we removed him from this location right away.

Six weeks later, with no contact in between or spots opening up, they reached out for an additional $150 to remain on the waitlist. I was surprised by the ask and declined. It felt outrageous to ask that of parents without indicating where they sit on the waitlist and the odds of a spot opening up - especially within a relatively short time frame. Pretty disappointing.

The staff are incredibly warm, caring and dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where each child is valued as an individual. The classrooms are thoughtfully designed to foster independence, creativity and critical thinking, with a perfect balance of structure and freedom. My child flourished here - not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well. The Montessori approach allows them to take ownership of their learning, explore their interests, and develop at their own pace. The emphasis on hands-on learning and practical life skills has been invaluable, and it's amazing to see the growth in confidence and self-reliance. As a first-time parent, I've learned so much from the teachers here - not just about my child, but about parenting. Their gentle guidance and encouragement have been such a support to me. The way they model patience, respect and positive discipline has helped me approach parenting with more confidence and understanding. I never expected that the school would offer me so much help along the way! I truly believe that choosing Wedgwood Montessori was one of the best decisions we've made for our child and I wholeheartedly recommend this preschool to any parent looking for a thoughtful, child-centered educational environment. We had peace of mind for her care while at work and I can't thank them enough!

The leadership (Metti) and staff (Karina) provide not just implementing preschool curriculum but also integrate nurturing and social emotional aspects to guide kids to learn/ know the community and be part of it in a positive way. Love that they differentiate outdoor shoes from indoor shoes to keep the classroom floor neat and clean, love the concept of stone soup festival for fall (kids learn to bring their favorite veggies to share with all and prep the food together), love that they host special celebrations for Mother's Day and Father's Day (customized), love that they have a super huge sandbox outdoor with covered so it won't get wet, love the staging / theater cabin where kids can explore their endless imagination, love their slide are wide and smooth, love that they don't share hamlet to prevent lice. My kids learned so much not just about colors numbers alphabet animals but also the space, planets, insects' life cycle, math, earth, ...etc that my kids were ahead when they started kindergarten. My kids always wanted to stay and play and interact with peers and staff until the school close and never wanted to skip school. The school hours fit our needs for working parents and tuitions are definitely reasonable. Definitely highly recommend WM!! Thank you so much Metti and Karina!

Having gone through the day care search process and researched/ called / visited dozens of them in Seattle, I realized how difficult it was to find a pleasant & reliable care provider as a first-time parent, and I feel so grateful to have my child enrolled at CLCC, a gem in the U District that stands out among its peers. Here are a few highlights that come on top of my mind: 1. The teachers and staff express genuine affection and interest in the children. I can see my child feels very happy and safe around them. Even on her first day, my 15-month old quickly established connection with her teachers. And within a few weeks, she became very much attached to them and was even interacting cheerfully with the teachers from the elder classrooms. 2. Diverse activities throughout the day to engage the children in learning, singing, dancing, art, walking around the campus, reading books, etc and I love it that they encourage the kids to express themselves in different activities and social scenarios. They thoughtfully kept a collection of my toddler's "art work" over the past few month to bring home, which is cute and precious. 3. The children learn to practise a lot of basic life skills in their daily routine. From taking off jacket/shoes and placing them in the right place in the morning, to sitting properly for meals/snacks at table, cleaning up after meal, washing hands before/after meals, to taking out blanket for afternoon nap, etc. I was totally impressed when I watched a roomful of kids doing these all by themselves at a lunch visit. 4. Very accessible & responsive administration. Michelle, the director, was really fast at responding to enrolment inquiries and scheduling a tour for me(before finding CLCC, I contacted some other daycare centers that respond very slowly or sound impatient, and ask for a waiting list fee ). Fabulous job in efficiently maintaining the wait list and for replying to emails and answering the phone calls quickly. It really means a lot for parents that are anxious to nail down a good care. 5. Though it is a program of the UCUCC church, they are open to the entire community and not limited to church members, and, they don't impose religious content in the curriculum. As a non-religious person, I feel grateful to the UCUCC and the entire staff for running this excellent program and making it available to the entire community. Thanks to all the CLCC teachers and staff for your good work. Please keep it up and keep it rolling !

Our family has been at University Cooperative School…read morefor 10yrs - my 15yr old attended K-5th grade, and I currently have a 4th grader and my youngest is in PreK. We are incredibly grateful for this school, the holistic education it's provided our children and the community that has been the anchor for our family life. The teachers are excited about what they teach, care deeply for the students. With enthusiasm for their subjects and the freedom and support they need to follow that enthusiasm they make engaging, responsive, project based learning the norm all through the program. The kids stay excited about learning, comfortable asking questions and learn to ask for what they need as a learner. Our modern lives are designed in a way that is isolating and can wearus down with the load of demands of parenting- but the model of cooperative school (that's very flexible/understands we work too!) means that you can build real relationships and community in a society where that can be incredibly hard. At U co-op our children end up with so many loving adults who know and care for them - I can't overstate how valuable that is. Especially when life brings rough seasons or crisis. We know each other's kids and support each other through this parenting journey. The nurturing, adventurous environment helps kids be comfortable and confident in themselves -quirks and struggles included. My kids love going to school and I love the joyful childhood it has given them.

The most extraordinarily compassionate teachers and staff, and a parent community that has been supportive, resourceful, kind and caring. There is a warmth to the building (which we are thankfully back in - and masked) that we fell in love with from the first tour. It didn't feel cold or modern; it felt like creativity and childhood. There are nooks for reading, spaces for found art, paintings up everywhere. The teachers allow the children to follow their curiosity and even adjust the lessons to be relevant to the things that interest them. The kids are learning just as much as peers at other schools, but in a way that focuses on their self development and self esteem. This school has been a great find and has helped carry us through this difficult stretch.
