I would not recommend this school to any parent. Ever. First of all, we were very spoiled with a preschool we loved that was truly a five star preschool. We had to move to Seattle from Texas and I chose this school based on some of the reviews I had read. I was extremely disappointed.
First, our son is a preschooler, but his birthday is late. However, he is on par with the other children his age.
My first encounters with this school were via phone/email. I do not feel like they truly listened to me at all. I explained to them that we would be moving to Seattle and that I wanted to tour the school. They kept pushing me for a deposit to hold a spot and then when a spot came, they pushed me to enroll him right away - even though it was still two weeks before we would be able to tour the school. I still made an appointment for the tour.
We arrived at the school and after constantly trying to get someone to answer the door and let us in, we had to call the corporate office to call them and tell them that we were waiting for our tour at the appointed time. They acted like they did not even know we were coming, despite the fact that we had emails confirming the time and date. Then the center director gave us our tour. Let me say this, the woman is not friendly at all. I should of known from my very first impression that this was not the school for us, but at the time I did not feel like I had a choice. Only AFTER the tour did the director tell us that they had a case of the flu going around the school and that a lot of teachers were out. If I had known that, there would be no way I would have brought my 3 year old to get exposed to something like that while in the midst of a cross country move. I felt like she was rude the entire time we talked to her. I asked her about when they would be moving my son to pre-k and she rudely informed me that he would be staying in preschool another year since his birthday was after September 1. I told her I would rather him spend two years in pre-K than two years in preschool, because his other school had a pre-k 1 (for 4 year olds) and a pre-K 2 (for 4.5 year olds). She basically told me I had no choice.
After talking about price, and our sticker shock at their high prices (they are the most expensive preschool around), the director just kept telling me, "well it is Seattle" like that justifies price gouging. Then she had the nerve to rudely inform me that it would also be going up in September. Needless to say I was already not impressed after this initial appointment.
The teachers in the classroom seemed pretty nice. The classroom itself feels crowded and dark. In the two and a half months that my son was at the school, there was a high rate of teacher turn over. One of the teachers was Asian, she may have been from China. She was very nice but her English was not very good and when my husband took our son to his first preview day, he said that the lesson they were having was awful and that she was not telling the children correct information when it came to spelling and grammar.
Do not expect the front desk staff to be nice or friendly at all. At the previous school, the front desk was always happy, cheerful and friendly. They always said hello and goodbye. The staff at this school basically just ignore you and stay in their own conversations if there is even anyone at the desk.
The worst part about this whole experience is that if I am going to pay a small fortune (literally a house payment) on my son to attend a school, it had better be nurturing and educational. My son went from loving his school to not wanting to go. In just one month of being at this school, he no longer wanted to try to do any coloring or letters or anything. He kept telling me "I'm not good enough". He had never said this to me ever. I was at the school a week later and personally experienced hearing one of the teachers of another class tell a child "You are not doing that good enough". WHO SAYS THAT TO PRESCHOOLERS?
When it came time to leave, I gave the appropriate 30 day notice but also let the school know that if they wanted to allow another child on the waiting list to take our son's spot, then I would be fine with that if they did not charge us. I was basically told, he can leave early but you have to pay for it.
For the most part, I feel like this school does not really care about the children or their parents. They are in it for the money. read more
