The other weird thing about the Crow Bar, a rock bar in Cascais and not in Bairro Alto, is that it's customer base doesn't appear to be long-haired metalheads. We first went in the summer of 2016 and we were very happy to go back (quite a few times) in September, 2018. Bruno is a good bartender and very friendly (in his own way). His colleague, a very pretty, tattooed lady, was a bit shy but nice. Where else can you get a caneca and a bottle of Heineken for a total of only €4.50? I'll tell you where - the bar across from the train station in Tunes (Silves) down in the south of Portugal! But you won't hear any rock and roll there! I don't know who owns this bar but my God, I hope they make enough money here to keep it open. We're rockers and even if it isn't a rock crowd (when we've been there), at least it's rock! And beer! We were staying in a beautiful Airbnb just up the hill northwest a mile. We could see Guincho, but Bar do Guincho is tucked up just off the beach with a big beautiful open deck with glass railings. Other outdoor sections are more protected from the frequent wind, and then there is a great room indoors with a big fireplace for the off season. Service was awesome. Each table had a unique QR code on a caddy that allowed you to not just see the menu but order at your own pace and also pay at the end. They also offer regular table service for curmudgeons and luddites. (just joking!) We ordered the delicious passion fruit sangria and it arrived in 5 minutes. All of our food was excellent, particulary the Portuguese fried shrimp (sauteed to Americans!) and the ceviche. The fries and bread were also delicious. You will not find a more beautiful view or a better vibe. We never go back to the same place during a short visit but we hit Bar do Guincho twice in three days. Can't wait to return next visit!

This distinctly French place is just a short hop from the Boca do Inferno and Cascais. Owner Pierre-Marie and his daughters deliver an excellent example of great French cuisine without ever having to leave the country. For lunch a our group of three all chose the menu of the day which included a vegetable soup as an appetizer, a fillet of St. Pierre fish (John Dory in English) as the main course and a Pear in wine sauce for dessert. The fish fillet was absolutely spectacular, very delicate, cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning. The fish was accompanied by potatoes and courgettes (zucchini) which complemented the fish in taste. The poached pear in wine sauce was da' bomb - I am not usually a fruit guy, but I have to admit that it was really exceptional. The dish was very well executed, the flavors were balanced, not too much wine nor tartness nor sweetness everything was perfect.
