Nestled in a centuries old fishing community, they're home to a unique collection of gift shops, museums and art galleries, delicious restaurants, coffee and bake shops, ice-cream canteens and fish n' chip shacks. Because it's off-season, a lot of the shops were closed but it was fun to walk around ... I love being by the water. In addition to the shops, it also functions as a fishing wharf. I never knew this place existed until today. I imagine it's an awesome place in the summer with all the shops open.

These folks have all manner of amazing products! Fancy a mortar and pestle made from Guyana Purple Hart and Nova Scotian Oak? They have it! Lots of mixing bowls, lazy Susan's (renamed: functional Ida's), cutting boards and all manner of other useful hand crafted tools. Most of the products that the Wiley's create are made with differing woods from all over the world. This makes for a colourful and highly unique finished product. These people are extremely kind. Boulderwood is located approximately 45 minutes outside of Halifax, near the Mount Uniacke area. When you arrive, you'll see a big red barn and a white house. The owner, James, will be quick to greet you along with some of his staff and pets. They'll ask you to sign a safety waiver and provide you with a helmet and any other equipment you need, and quickly get you saddled up into the horses. The trail lasts abouts 1 hour as one of the staff members guides the trail ride through the woods and one follows at the back. Most of the ride will be slow paced, allowing you to take in the scenery, with the occasion trot or canter. I have been to Boulderwood on several times, and can honestly say for ~$30, it's well worth the money and everyone always has a great time. It's especially nice to go in the fall when the leaves are changing colours. We' re also looking forward to doing a winter trail-ride in the snow. Overall, always a great experience and I'd highly recommend others to check it out.

The main store sells everything from cider to meat pies and everything in between! The family filled atmosphere was refreshing and the customer service was unlike any other corn maze. Everyone was so kind - especially if you get lost! They gave out maps to help show you were the varieties of apples were. The hay ride was a blast - and surprisingly long! They helped people with strollers and trouble walking up and had no trouble with any of it. Definitely one of my favourite apple picking experiences! We will be back next year hopefully for the haunted maze! Can't wait!
