It helped that they had been to NOLA before and could make some personal recommendations; one of our favorite recs was the evening historical ghost tour which we might not have thought to try if it weren't for them. They also found us options for culinary tours at our request. :) Our latest request for them was for our honeymoon. We were already so focused and stressed from wedding planning that it was an easy decision to enlist Melissa and Zach's help by giving them our preferences, timeline, and budget for our honeymoon, and they helped price out some great options for us to choose from for multiple countries. We ended up choosing Mexico for the value, and it was just what we wanted and needed after our wedding festivities were over. While they will plan a nice vacation for you both domestically and internationally, I think their international experience with traveling is the most valuable thing about their services. They're adventurous and have tried both the touristy things and things off the beaten track; they won't have an issue with giving you great travel tips and good deals. :)

Melissa incorporated the ideas I had found (there was a luxury tent resort I knew I wanted to stay in) with suggestions of her own and it all worked out wonderfully and in fact exceeded my expectations. The trip was far better than anything I could have planned on my own. We had drivers to take us anywhere we wanted to go, they found us an awesome resort in Mombasa, planned activities for days that we needed them and also allowed for plenty of downtime, and worked within our budget. We never had to worry about anything once we hit the ground in Kenya. Sometimes throughout the planning process I would change my mind about things, and Melissa was always very patient and prompt with getting back to me and tailoring the itinerary exactly to my specifications. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to friends.

The first thing I saw when entering the Famcamp was an overflowing dumpster; grossly overflowing. After setting up, our first trip is to the bathhouse. My wife informed me the ladies room was disgusting, and there was only one roll of toilet paper in the entire restroom. That was one more than in the men's room. The men's room also has more than half of the light fixtures inoperable (which did imrove the appearance). The grounds are also lacking basic maintenance, with trash and broken limbs lying about in various places. There is evidence of past improvements, such as concrete pads for the sites. It appears that the current leadership for the Famcamp has no interest in maintaining it.

The game room has no heat, making it unusable in cold weather. During the recent storm, the RV area was not cleared or maintained. The rest of the base roads were passable, but the RV grounds were not, leaving us effectively stuck and unable to move our RV. Despite not being able to access or use our RV site due to these conditions, we were still charged. To make matters worse, management has been unreachable and has not returned calls. For a facility on a military installation, this level of upkeep and customer service is unacceptable. I cannot recommend staying here until basic sanitation, maintenance, and communication issues are addressed.

The boat and RV storage area is fenced, gated, and locked all the time (from what I witnessed). There are a couple "cons" and a whole lot of pros to this place. Cons: occasional traffic noise when drivers on RT 301 are being rude and honking horns; occasional banging that sounds like close-by firework explosions and screeching of trains coming from the coal-fired power plant across down the shoreline; the best spots close to the river are hogged by full-timers who live in their campers as if they are in a trailer park; no WiFi and Verizon cell data coverage is spotty even on clear days (LTE and 3G). Pros: nice staff! HUGE campground with good facilities, lots of lawns, and child- and pet-friendly atmosphere. Big children's playground. Horseshoe pits. A covered pavilion - it's huge! Clean, updated bathrooms with showers in the campground AND at the marina. RV repair shop onsite- nice guy who does emergency repairs and scheduled maintenance. 10 clean/working Speed Queen washers, 5 huge dryers, tow folding tables, and a bathroom in the laundromat. Two HUGE dumpsters that get emptied regularly. For the sites that are not full hook-up, Aqualand staff come around and clean out your black and gray waste tanks for you. The marina also has a little store that sells drinks, snacks, fish bait, licenses and gear. And they sell propane on-site at the marina (fill your tanks). The sites #'d in the 90's are the nicest sites, IMHO. All of the sites are long enough for your Class A/B/C, 5'er or travel trailer, and most are wide enough to park your vehicle next to your RV. Many of the sites have mature trees covering them, topped up two as not to rub against the top of your RV.
