Two stars because the beef in my linguine was tender, and the starter bread was also excellent. They should use that for their pizza crust.

The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming with a great selection of Italian wines. The owner, Pino (like Grigio!) is a hilarious and gregarious man who made us feel very welcome. We ordered the caprese salad and 2 different pizzas (can't remember the toppings...), but as Chicagoans with a pretty high standard of pizza, they were both delicious!! The restaurant was very busy for a Wednesday night so that says a lot about its reputation among locals in the neighborhood. I highly recommend popping in here for some good food and good conversation!

Located near Checkpoint Charlie in the center of Berlin, this very, very small but lovely little Italian restaurant makes amazing, authentic food. If you know a little German it will help you here. If you are a local or can get a reservation, that also would help. Otherwise it might be packed. We got the last table available when we came in. We had the Calamari Fritto app special, which was one of the all time best calamari we've ever had anywhere. We also had the Spaghetti con Gamberetti, which was excellent but could use more aggressive seasoning. People in Germany clearly don't like a lot of seasoning. I had the Penne con manzo e funghi stagionali, which was truly excellent. All the pasta was fresh, all the flavors authentic and appreciated. The only thing weird at all Italian restaurants is this spread they give you which I can only describe as sour cream and chives potato chip dip. I don't get it, but whatever. It's not like you get charged for it. Anyway, if you're in Berlin, put this place on your must try list and go!

Staff was very nice and friendly. Frankly they had nothing really italian on their menu. No typical pasta dishes, no chicken parmagiana. No chicken marsala, no pesto sauce, no penne vodka. It is like this place had no clue what italian food was or how to serve it. Sad that these servers were so good, yet working at a crap place like this. I ended up ordering 'homemade' gnocchi with homemade tomato basil sauce, it was bland, not very good at all. My dad tried to order chicken parm over pasta and got pieces of grilled chicken tossed in spaghetti from a box over the same plain tomato sauce. How awful. Their wine selection was pathetic, strange considering its an "italian restaurant...?' The server could not even tell me what the "Sweet wine" on the menu was. Yes that was its actually called on the menu. They only had three also...pinot, chardonnay, and 'sweet wine.' Awful selection for any restaurant let alone an Italian one. Overall I would never come back here, I would never suggest it to anyone, and shame on anyone giving this place more then three stars. For what????????? Their food sucks, their menu is not even Italian, and they have no real alcohol. basically the only thing good here were the servers!

Moreover, the toppings were fresh and absolutely perfect in terms of quantity. So I highly recommend Stranero. Definitely will visit again. Extra tip: ask for the chili oil.
