Wow! Wow! Wow! Make sure to be hungry when you go there. :) and have a reservation…read more This restaurant does not offer a menu. It is determined by the chef and consists out of three courses. When we arrived we were seated outside surrounded by beautiful buildings, churches and the vibrant life of Catania. Soonest we sat down our waiter started bringing the first course. I was totally speechless. He sat down cold cuts, cheese, bread and much much more onto the table. Basically putting food on the table until there was absolutely no more room. After the first course we were asked what type of protein we would like and finished our meal with a dessert and Grappa. The restaurant is very! affordable. For only 20 Euro - all three courses and wine or pop are included. This restaurant is a MUST visit in Catania.

Dinner here was a very memorable experience - a must for visitors to Catania! We walked by a few…read moredays earlier and saw large groups celebrating with dinner there, so we decided to try it. They gave us so much food that my wife and I overate that evening... AND still had takeaways for lunch the next day on the train! As other reviewers indicate, the emphasis is on the huge quantity of food. There was not enough room on the table for all of the appetizers they brought - various meats, 3 types of cheeses, olives, mushrooms, 4 eggplant dishes, breads, etc.. I give them 5 for quantity, 4 for setting, and 3 (good) for overall food quality. The horse steak entree was tasty, and my wife enjoyed her pork entree. Service was super fast, and the outdoor setting is beautiful in a cobbled walkway surrounded by old buildings and churches, a perfect area for an after-dinner stroll. And at 20 Euros for this much food PLUS beer/wine & Limoncello, it was very affordable. Buon appetito!

I don't know if he was a sommelier, but he certainly knew all about the wines in the region. I started with a crisp dry white wine and ended with 2 reds that were dry and flavorful ...okay so night number 2, yes I went back again. It wasn't a fluke, staff is really that knowledgeable about wine and food, they really are that friendly, music is really that on trend and food is really that good. Night 1 had a ribeye cooked perfectly medium with salt flakes on top. 2nd night tataki with sesame, almonds and honey with sweet potatoes on the side. Red wine was still on point. There are amazing places to eat in Catania so it means a lot to me to go to the same restaurant 2 times in 2 nights.

I decided to order my cut of steak from the display case Vice the menu. YOLO right. I went with the Irish Beef and it was 45 euro per kilo. The steak was ok at best. Everyone talked about how to order to get the right temperature you want. I found that a bit off putting. Also the utensils aren't the best for cutting thick cut steaks. I may go back but it did not live up to the hype for me. If a place is named The Steakhouse, it has to deliver.

Wow! Great little trattoria off the beaten path with local recipes, fish and meat, friendly owners…read moreand reasonable prices ... HOOAH! The homemade breadsticks, coated in sesame seeds were the best I have ever had and the accompanying fresh, local bread baked to perfection. A liter of vino locale, a deep red Nero d' Avola (€8), was the perfect accompaniment for my birthday meal. For my primo, I had the Penne alla Norma (€8), a traditional and typically Sicilian primo (first course), a simple pasta with tomato sauce and eggplant. It was superb, so I did not have to add a thing unlike pasta dishes in many restaurants. and the Scaloppine alla Pizzaiola (€8) was, as my dad used to say, "tender as a whore's heart" and delicious. My wife had the Spaghetti alla Carbonara (€7), telling the chef, Orazio, that it was the best she has had (except for mime of course), bold praise from a native Sicilian. Her Bistecca al Cipole (steak and onions - €8) was also tender a yummy. We finished with a Chocolate Souffle (€4) that was to die for. Moist and warm, it rivaled souffles I have had at 5-Star restaurants on Rodeo Drive and at 1/4 to 1/3 the price! A nice glass of grappa (€3) rounded out the meal. The owners are from Catania, recently having moved home from Frankfurt, opening this wonderful trattoria just two months ago. You will not find a better value in Catania whether it is meat or fish you are craving. A MUST if visiting or living in the beautiful City of Catania, Antico Cortile da Orazio is THE BOMB!
