I love Italian food and when we travel I love to find a place that make that food that wows me. This was it! But........It felt a little weird since we came in at 7:30PM on a Sunday night and there was NO ONE there.... I thought omg, is it closed? But they close at 8pm today according into the sign outdoor. We found out later that they didn't even open on Sundays so they just started so therefore that's why there was no not there. Ok make sense we got the place to ourselves yay! So let's get to the food and here's what we ordered. Free: Crusty Toasted Bread slices with an oil olive infused dip Primi: Carbonara $27 (4/5) Perfectly cooked spaghetti noodles, and tons of bacon, and sauce was on point too Gnocchi Gorgonzola $27 (4/5) Pillowy pockets of ricotta gnocchi in creamy Gorgonzola sauce Parpadelle wagyu meatball ricotta $38 (3/5) Don't get this. My noodles were al dente, super chewy and I was disappointed. They said this was a special since it wasn't on the menu, but i think it was just the meatballs (Wagyu Polpette) added to the parpadelle noodles and (custom made). Sounded good but no... Ribeye $54 (4/5) This was also not on the menu as only the New York was on it and states (custom made). This as overall really perfectly cooked, medium rare how we like out steak and came with a Gorgonzola sauce on the side. Desserts: Chocolate Mousse Cake $10 (4/5) This as super rich, creamy and chocolatey. We came to celebrate out daughters birthday her big day. They don't give any free desserts but if you do decide to order something get the chocolate mouse cake. Overall the dishes were all really good and we finished all of it with our family of 5. Our server Bernard was great as well and made our dinner more enjoyable. He did recommend some wine (Donello red $10) for a glass and it went well with everything we had tonight. Went for early Valentine's Day. The food was outstanding. We had the crab cakes (must try!), rigatoni with vodka sauce, and tiramisu. The service was a bit slow but I think the waitress was hijacked by the "wine swirlers" at the bar and a table near us that had to have every detail about every menu item, so not really blaming her. Excellent service... Chris is the best...BUT, if this restaurant wants to succeed, ESPECIALLY as more of a "fine dining" restaurant, they need to step up their food game soon. The kitchen lacks consistency in their product, and this falls squarely on the owner. If a chef isn't trained properly, to following recipes and techniques with that consistency, customers can't expect the same dish every time they visit. My wife's carbonara was the perfect example on our last visit.... too "eggy" and not enough pancetta. My squid ink linguine was a clump of noodles, starched together AND NOT HOT. Seafood accompanied was quite good, but a great dish is the sum of ALL its parts, and this fell short. As I said, either step up or get out of the game. Restaurants fail every day in the area, but I truly hope Trattoria D' Anna will succeed. They are good people. read more

Walking in it's like we are in Italy! the outside seats are perfectly lit in the evening which makes for a beautiful environment. I am going to be in the minority here. While I disagree with the one star reviews, the food is not terrible, but it also unfortunately in my opinion is not very good Italian. I will echo some of the other reviewers in saying that while George was very charming, he also sat down at our booth and the other server was the one who actually had to bring our order out to us because he was chatting with us. He's a very nice person, but probably spends a little too much time telling stories. As for the food, we had the ravioli appetizer special, but don't recall George telling us that it was fried ravioli. He may have, but it likely got lost in the probably nearly 10 specials or so that he told us about. I myself am a chef and the Caesar salad dressing honestly while it may have been from scratch it also could have come out of a bottle though I doubt likely that it did. The restaurant definitely seems to take pride in the food they present. I also don't think an Italian restaurant of this caliber and price point should serve a Caesar salad drenched in dressing and small pieces of chopped romaine. The ravioli and Waygu meatball special was also mediocre. I really don't like leaving reviews like this, but I feel the need to be honest. I will say that the environment and the ambiance of the restaurant itself is very inviting and charming. For me, unfortunately the food didn't live up to the ambiance. read more

Popped in on a Friday night without reservations, I will say we got lucky. Definitely encourage you to call for reservations. Seated at an intimate table for 2 and happy to have Bernie as our server. After hearing the Chef specials, decisions were made and there was no going back. We started with the "special" crab cakes served on a bed of arugula . Lightly breaded and loaded with crab, delicious! Next, beet salad with caramelized onions... yum! Large enough for hubby and I to split and feel satisfied. Main course was the "special" house made Pappardelle pasta with meatballs and burrata cheese, that was drizzled with pesto sauce. Yum! Hubby thoroughly enjoyed the Short-Rib Lasagna. I don't understand why the server sat down at our table. He went into all the specials before we even had water. You know who I am referring to. I watched him do it at all his other tables. Food prices are ridiculous. $17 for some arugula and diced beets that were not even candy-cane beets as stated on the menu. They were golden. No tiramisu at an Italian restaurant? No liquor license just over priced mediocre wine selections of few. Booth table had no cloths but others did. And the front door is FILTHY. The evening sun showcased it as we sat in the corner booth wondering why ownership, management or any other employee did not see it. I used my cutlery for my salad and left it on my plate as is proper, but when my entree came, and my salad plate had not been cleared, I was told to remove it from the dirty plate and "hang onto it". Really? Can't go for a clean fork for my $28 spaghetti? Another restaurant not having a clue what they're doing and asking people to be impressed by the food. Which was extremely dependent on the deep fryer, crab cakes, chicken and veal. Not very Chef like. Live and learn. Skip this one. read more

Ok so first of all amazing food and great service. Ambiance was cozy enough for Dunedin and this Trattoria has only been open for a handful of weeks which is quite impressive. Before I get to the food review, shame on the reviews that do not give grace to a brand new local mom and pop place in their opening weeks. The mere fact that this type of quality authentic Italian establishment can put out this variety of amazing food that you won't find elsewhere is quite an accomplishment ..... kudos to the chef and management team. Now for the utter BS comment about racism. My wife is white, I am half Asian, my mixed daughter brought her black bf and our family has never felt more welcome. It doesn't get more diverse than us. Please don't pay any mind to anyone who has only left a few (and in this case 1) BS reviews that have nothing to do with food. Now about the food. We're from Maryland and obviously skeptical about crab cakes outside of Maryland. Bottom line. Order the crab cakes. Seafood pasta Nero (squid ink) was on point, possibly the best veal chop I've ever had (literally licked the bone clean), solid meatballs and red sauce and amazing Bisteca (NY strip with Gorgonzola sauce). Portions were generous and a few things we dug into so fast we forgot to take pics. Obviously the bread was baked fresh and super crispy, everything was scratch made and they are non gmo and non seed oil friendly which alone is a testament to quality standards. Ok so my wife is full blooded Italian and my mom is Italian and we eat out Italian at least 3 times a week. Hands down this is the best Italian food in the area. I'm glad they don't have pizza it would be a distraction from the fine dining achievement of this gem of a Trattoria which my family likens to eating at Nona's (grandmas) house but with white tablecloths. I was happy to discover this Italian restaurant outside of downtown Dunedin. My eggplant was cooked so well and the service was great.

We had an excellent dinner here last night. Two of us had the short rib lasagna -that's a must order for sure! and another one of the diners had the homemade ravioli. We also had the fried calamari and grilled artichoke appetizer. Both were outstanding even the bread and seasoned olives they brought out as the first course were just divine. The bread and pasta are made in house. So yummy. And we finished with tiramisu also another recommend. James and Bernie were the best. The service was really wonderful. We will definitely go back ! only negative is the outside needs a little love. The little fountain needs to go. The inside is comfortable. Our meal at trattorie D Anna was just amazing. We started with the fresh hot baked olive bread, meatball appetizer and grill artichokes. Both were over the top with flavors that seemed to be old world family recipes! There were four of us, we had the Chicken Marcella with roasted veggie, the gnocchi, and angle hair with Bolognese sauce. All the dishes had spectacular flavors and we will be back. The sauce that came on the Gnocchi was some of the best I've ever had. My hubby said his Marcella sauce on the tender chicken needed to be added to a top 10 Restraunt list we keep. Came for my husbands bday dinner with another couple. Started with drinks outside only because it was freezing inside. I'm talking cold. Asked if they could possibly up the air a little. No, but they promised to put us in a booth that would be out of the direct rush. No problem. Ordered the calamari, Caesar salad and beet salad to start. Calamari was small but crazy tender. The beet salad was honestly the best I've ever had er had but was disappointed with the amount of goat cheese. 2 little deep fried balls was definitely not enough. Then I had the pappardelli with veggies in a white wine sauce. Loved it. Pasta and veggies done to perfection and that sauce was perfect. My husband had the short rib lasagna. He said it needed another layer of pasta and less cheese. But still pretty good. Portions were generous. Actually had leftovers for dinner the next night. We brought a cake in and the staff were kind enough to put it on a plate and decorate it up a bit for us. I'm sure we'll be back if only for that beet salad. read more

The wife and I went for dinner last night. The place is fairly nice inside. We ordered the artichoke and crab cake apps to start. They were both very good. The crab cake had big chunks of crab and tasted good. One was a bit cold and a serving was 3 slightly larger than a golf ball cakes. The artichokes were a bit tangy for my taste but the wife loved them. For dinner we had the spinach ravioli of the day with vodka sauce and saffron risotto of the day. The ravioli were really good maybe a touch undercooked but good nonetheless. The risotto was good but nothing to write home about. Our server was fine but not overly interested in our table. He spent a lot of time with the table next to us. In general we liked this place but likely won't go back. Our bill was 160 with what we got plus two glasses of wine. This is pretty much the 4th review I've ever written. I can't express enough how appreciative I am to have a nice restaurant in the area that serves food cooked in olive oil, beef tallow, or avocado oil. They cook with pasture raised eggs and pasture raised pork. After meeting the chef to tell him how much I appreciate that he uses optimal ingredients, he spent 10 minutes discussing with me that if he wasn't able to use the best ingredients he wouldn't be involved with the restaurant. That's just the ingredients. The food their was absolutely delicious. I had to get the pork chop, given that it was pasture raised. It was by far the best one I've ever had. The potatoes that come on it we're delicious and cooked perfectly, the peppers were a little spicy but, I loved it because I don't prefer bland food. The sauce that it came with was amazing. The calamari was clearly not cooked with seed oils and you can taste the difference. Their calamari was a contender with the best I've ever had. My wife had the pasta with the pasture raised eggs mixed in the sauce. It was creamy and delightful. Our server was very considerate and attentive. He must've memorized the specials, it sounded like he was reading a script the way he was describing them. It was just an amazing experience. I can't wait to go back. I told the server "the food was so good, if I was home I'd be licking the plate (not that there was anything but sauce remnant left). He told me "feel free to go ahead if you want." I responded "I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that in a restaurant I respect as much as this one." I hope this restaurant grows and goes on to open many locations with the same standards and care.
