The train service starts in Christchurch and ends at Greymouth, with a stop at Arthur's Pass. Beautiful scenery and landscapes lined the route through the Alps from the east coast to the west coast of New Zealand's South Island.
It was luxurious, and Scenic Plus is the way to go. You have a table in parties of four. Three hosts were there to serve meals, provide insight and history (the best part, I think), and just make everyone happy as can be. Our hostess, Toni, was so special. She started the trip with a Māori spiritual blessing. It was so beautiful.
There are headsets with audio throughout the trip, describing the sights you see along the train ride. The history was fascinating. There's also an exclusive car for the Scenic Plus group that is open air to see the sights unobstructed and for photos. A clean bathroom was very convenient placed in between.
Food was quaint and delicious. Not too heavy and perfectly suitable for the ride. We had some breakfast, finger sandwiches for lunch and dessert.
The whole experience was well done. read more
