At Arthur Pass where we disembarked
    angela l.

Our tour group made the arrangement for our trans South Alps ride from Christchurch to Arthur's Pass and our tour bus picked us up there. The rain ride was very comfortable with free earphone provided and audio talked about many facts, history, etc. I spent most of my time in the open-air cart or the small space next to this cart outside a toilet. I had to go to my seat (in enclosed cart) many times during the trip, whenever the train was in a tunnel, to get away from the terrible fume. At the beginning, a lot of passengers crowded into the open-air cart to take pictures. There were some people did not have the concept of "sharing". Luckily, some people in my tour group were nice enough to let me get close to the spot where I took some nice pictures. Later on, the crowd did thin out. Maybe because it got too cold for some in early May? I totally immersed myself in enjoying the ever changing landscape in the comfortable cool air except when the rain went through tunnel. Wish I had brought with me a mask! Wonderful experience!! But I wandered if driving ourselves in a car would be a better way to fully take in every bit of the scenery along the path?

I found the Metro to be easy to navigate and the driver was super nice. Much easier than Auckland for sure! Operated by the Canterbury Regional Council, the main bus service is known as Metro. It uses a proprietary debit card which of course is not compatible with any of the other NZ transport networks. Or you can buy your fare from the driver but it costs much more. The train from the airport to the CBD was clean, smooth and the onboard power outlet was most welcome. Easy to work out the timing for the next bus from the bus stop and where it's heading. Probably one of the most simple public transport companies I've dealt with in quite some time. [Review 362 of 2024 - 15 in New Zealand - 21395 overall]

Loved the location right across Hagley Park, convenient to many places, and they provide free parking. Even though this hotel is a bit pricier than other places I searched, it is well worth it. Many places aren't as nice, not conveniently located, and overnight parking will cost you $$, which you factor into the cost, it's actually the same price. Once we stepped into the lobby, you can feel a certain level of comfortness, elegance, and sophistication. This hotel is not modern, but doesn't feel outdated. There's a distinctive quality. We were warmly greeted by the concierge/front desk person. He was very friendly, helpful, informative, hospitable, and made us feel very welcomed. Our room was a decent size with a lot of natural light coming in. With the park across, you have excellent privacy. One of the perks was the heated bathroom floors! They also FREE guest laundry. That was another reason why I chose this hotel because it was our last stop, and we could do laundry before heading home. One of the housekeepers was really nice and kind. The staff overall were friendly. It's the small details and kind gestures that made our stay memorable, even if it was just for one night. Providing complimentary coffee or tea when we arrived, the extra care and effort when we needed something, and giving us a free teddy (George) bear too! I'll definitely come back to stay at The George on my next visit to Christchurch!

A bit pricey relative to other "luxury" hotels. No real grounds to speak of. Hotel definitely geared to those 65+ with decor and piped in scent that reminded me of my papaw. Would elevate to five star if updated.

We were seated in a small table in the tram. Food (5/5): You were seated and immediately received a full glass of sparkling wine to enjoy. We had our appetizer (bruschetta) while we looked at the menu. The 5:00 pm seating only had three options for dinner - salmon, lamb and a pasta. We had the salmon and the lamb. I was so impressed that they were able to expertly serve the meals, which were warmed somehow in the very small kitchen area. The salmon was good and the lamb was cooked perfectly. We had the cheese plate for dessert and it was delicious. Service (5/5): The waiter was really kind and came by often to see if needed anything. They timed everything perfectly, even to collecting the wine glasses after the dessert. With such a small space, they made everything work effortlessly. Ambiance (5/5): It's a tram and it's so much fun to eat while setting the city. My favorite part was at the end, where you go through New Regent Street, where the tram is just inches from the diners. Some say it's arguably the cutest street in New Zealand. Take the time before or after the tram to explore this area.

We got on-board just steps from our hotel and had an absolute jam riding around with a local friend of ours telling us about all the sights and happenings. The food was way better than expected under such cramped circumstances and the servers and tram crew could not have been more friendly. Was it touristy? Of course it was! But was it a great time and an excellent meal? You bet! When in Christchurch if you don't arrange for this excursion you are cheating yourself out if a great way to see the downtown area and a total blast of an urban dining experience. As those Nike folks used to like to say..."Just do it!"

It is conveniently located literally next to the Tramway Restaurant and next to several restaurants and boutiques and within walking distance to RE:Start mall, and the Art Museum. Staff was very friendly, helpful and quick to assist us with our luggage. In addition, they were very kind and happy to assist us in locating the sites we were interested in seeing. Our room was very clean, modern and had AC!! In the room were the important conveniences to me- a safe, mini fridge, microwave and hair dryer. Our particular room had a nice huge window with a view of one of the many art murals they have around the city. In addition, they even printed out a notification that I guess was sent to the hotel Informing us of our one way excursion to Queenstown with our pick up time for the next am at our hotel and other specifics which was slid under our door in a nice envelope. I would highly recommend this hotel due for all the above reasons. Their breakfast is fairly good and decent- ranging from cold/hot cereals , fruits to meats/veggies. They even have vegemite and marmite if you've never tried it.

Elevators are tiny and take forever to get to you, and they also weirdly malfunction and send you down when you were starting to go up. Overall though, it is clean and modern and a nice hotel.

This is the only year-round direct flight to and from Honolulu and New Zealand, which is great. Though, I wish they have flights on Saturdays, so I have one more day of vacation! The flight attendants on both flights were friendly and professional. I purchased their Sky Couch seats (similar to the Couchii on ANA). I found these seats to be a little more spacious and more comfortable than the one on ANA. The entertainment had very clear screens for economy, and very easy to operate. Huge kudos to the pilot on both flights. The entire flight was SUPER smooth. The smoothest flight i've experienced. The take off was smooth, and the decent and landing was exceedingly smooth. My ears will always pop, but not this time, and could feel the tires just touch the runway. It was great! The domestic flights were as good as well. No one told me Queenstown has a super short runway, and crazy windy weather! Christchurch to Auckland was quite smooth though. The check in process was very easy with many kiosks, and clear signage. The staff at the airports and flight attendants were friendly and nice. I'll definitely play with Air New Zealand again! Kia Ora!
