He makes you feel as if you're his only patient taking whatever time is needed to answer any questions and keep you informed of the treatment plans. My husband came to the center unable to walk because of spine surgery and with a diagnosis of a blood disorder.  As a result of Dr. Thorpe's thoroughness, it turned out that there was no blood disorder.  The usual blood tests provided inaccurate results. The physical and occupational therapists were equally caring and skilled. The therapies had him walking and slowly becoming self sufficient. The nursing care cannot be praised enough.They were always responsive to his needs and often checked in just to see how he was doing. Our care navigator, Ms. Enitan Macarthy worked to maintain quality care and made the transition home seamless. We owe a debt of gratitude to the entire staff for getting my husband functioning well enough to come home.

If your loved one feels sick, the nurse doesn't even know what to do. If you want your loved one to die, send them here. If you want them to suffer, bring them here. No hospital should work with this place. The food is awful because my loved one's spit it out. Awful! Zero stars. They tried to keep us there and wouldn't help. We got my loved one out after 24 hours. Don't come here. I feel bad for those still there. May god help them. Even if this place pays you horribly, it doesn't make it ok to treat people like trash. My next door neighbors in also at this same rehab; she too has been treated well. I believe this is a short term rehab hospital verses a long term one. But it definitely is a 5 star compared to other rehab hospital in the area. The location of the rehab is in an excellent location as well. It is directly across the Street from the Mary Washington Hospital ER.

I had had a second seizure along with other health issues, (pneumonia, UTI, SEPSIS which brought me there. I WAS VERY SICK. In spite of it, I bent over backwards to b pleasant because the good workers deserved it. I arrived at Encompass late, approximately 11:30 PM, but had been told I'd go there at 3 pm. I guess you were running late. The intake team was very good and welcoming. I was told what my basic days there would entail. I wanted to come home badly so knew I would do all I was asked to make that hope a reality. I met and worked with many people (nurses, CNAs, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, doctors, and case managers....) I had only one real issue with an occupational therapist and I did report her, which is not me at all. All I know is her first name was Cheryl, and she doesn't work there often. She should never spend a day working there. She came at 8 am for me to take a shower my 3rd day with you. I have chronic back pain resulting from three major back surgeries and hot showers help the pain so much. I was so looking forward to that shower. I admit I was very weak, and her method ,involved my doing everything myself, and talking down to me when I struggled I took her condescending attitude but my being anxious and not trusting her made my pain level shoot sky-high. I tried to talk to Cheryl, but she treated me as nothing but an imposition. I told her another OT had helped me shower two days earlier to which she rudely replied, "so you don't really even need a shower.". I hadn't slept for a week and was quite emotionally down and did not need to be talked to like I was a child and a problem. My husband came to see me a few hours later and found me crying in my bed - not a good experience!!! The other therapists I worked with were good. It's a shame how one person who has no business being around people who need encouragement and compassion to recover can ruin the entire process. I hope my experience was not the norm.

I've probably seen 10 physical therapists over the last 20 years. I lead with that because I have never had a physical therapist as interested in getting me well as Liz with NRH in Ballston. I have been getting treatment for 5 months for vestibular rehab. While I have improved tremendously over that period, the most notable part to me is how the rehab has changed to adapt to where I am on any given day. There is no set schedule for what I do, but instead we spend the first few minutes of each session gauging where I am and what is appropriate to do to push or not push me on that day. This individualized care is wonderful and unique, in my experience. I fully recommend this place.

My relative was there a couple of…read moreyears ago for rehabilitation and was found deceased the morning of July 24, 2022, after a patient convince him to give him his benefit card for drugs and the drugs he brought back was laced with Fentanyl which took his life. I was informed by another patient that the person responsible for my cousin's death had done this before, where at least two other patients have died under the same circumstances. When I mentioned this to the staff, I was told this is the first time they heard of this. Some of the staff lack compassion and should never have been hired. Would I recommend them? Let me just say, everything that looks good on the internet and on paper isn't. And because of this, they will receive a bad rating.
