There were all these Asian places, many of them chains, in the Schanze, but this one (the sign…read moresays Fewa-Asia Imbiss by the way) was just tucked out of the way enough, and just funky real enough (as opposed to the chains you find everywhere - - in fact, some chains you find more than once in the Schanze).
But then, it was 4:30pm, about time for my one real meal of the day - - and the sign outside said their lunch specials are served till 5pm (gobstopping)!
Well flog me with bamboo shoots till the coconut milk floweth, pardon my french, but chrissakes 5 Euro thirty for a meal like this is unheard of. The M24 Gang Nua was massive, and all-kinds-of warming in the mid-winter chill, and an incredible almost endless bowl of the most perfectly prepared vegetables, or all colors, shapes, and textures, and when you ask for 'scharf' your tear ducts well up and you start to sweat and your sinuses clear right orderly just like it should be in the best of all possible worlds.
Seriously, the beef was a bit forgettable, but the vegetables so cooked-to-tooth-perfect in such vast quantity - - this is nutso worthwhile. The rice melted nice into the coconut broth, the bits of red pepper jump out at you beautifully, and the deep, deep sea of perfect and diverse veg, will make you completely forget how scruffy-bordering-upon-grotty the general surroundings are (it is an 'imbiss' after all; while very authentic Thai), though the solid squarish wooden seating area is decent enough.
