The best hair salon in the Iowa city/Coralville area. After going to several different places and having no luck, I ended up going to Chicago for anything more than a simple trim. After meeting Hannah, I haven't been to any other hair salons. She is very warm and friendly. I told her very briefly about what I was looking for. Without any hesitation, she started her work. This review is for a manicure and pedicure. It's hard to write this review. The salon has a nice atmosphere and is clean, and I liked the individual that did my mani/pedi. The cosmetologist was friendly, and it was a relaxing experience. So I enjoyed my time here, but this was the worst mani/pedi I have ever had. My cuticles on my hands still look terrible, and my feet are still rough on the heels, and my toes weren't cleaned up on the sides around the toenails where it starts to feel ingrown a little bit. So for the experience it would be a 5 star, but the mani/pedi was a 1. read more

I received a pedicure by a polite young woman. She worked meticulously and tried to provide a good pedicure. However, when I got home and looked at the pedicure, polish was on cuticles and skin surrounding the nails, and some polish was not evenly distributed on the nails. Disappointed, but also felt I overpaid ($53.00 plus $7 more for a tip) for the pedicure quality I received. I had previously received a good pedicure at this salon, but I can't recommend it after this experience. I do not fault the person who provided the pedicure; the salon should provide the appropriate training and experience. read more

Never get your hair colored here! It'll ruin your hair! I've come for simple hair cuts, and the staff is kind, friendly, and gives a decent hair cut; which is why I gave them two stars. However, I came to try something new and get the top of my hair black that would fade into a dark grey on the bottom. I asked if they'd be able to do it, and they said they could and we're extremely excited about the new look. I got there at my scheduled time and they did the top part no problem, but then started to bleach my hair for the bottom. It was terrible. They bleached it so many times, and the end product was an ugly rusty orange looking color. They apologized and asked if I could come back the next day so they could fix it, because they needed to close soon. They also mentioned that my hairstylist wasn't going to be available, so they'd have another take over the next day. I PAID and gave a tip because they said they could fix it. I came back the next day where they bleached my hair again, and managed to make it a lighter rusty blonde. She then tried to convince me that it looked close to grey, and said that if I didn't like it they could always try again the next day. I decided that I didn't want them to bleach my hair any further, but what really made me mad is that the woman who did the terrible coloring the second day insisted that I pay again because she had to do a lot of work on my hair, and I reminded them that the only reason I was back a second time was because they didnt get it right the first time, but she still wanted a tip for having to fix it. All in all great place to get a simple hair cut, but never get your hair dyed there. read more

Despite calling several different locations home, I have always been loyal to Aveda salons due to their excellent service and educated staff, but Transformations is one of the best. My stylist is Colton and I can always count on him to inform me of the latest trends and, most importantly, be honest with me about the best looks for me. Not only is he an expert on his field, but he is a natural-born comedian. Never have I ever laughed so hard at a salon. If you live in the area, check out Transformations! Tried this salon for the first time this week. The salon itself is in a great location. It was clean and welcoming. The staff offer beverages while you wait (wine, beer, soda, water). My stylist was Colton, and he was fantastic. Very professional while still very personable. I loved the cut and walked out feeling like a million bucks. The prices were very reasonable, too. I've found my new area stylist (after several unsuccessful attempts elsewhere), and I will definitely be back to see Colton. Highly recommend! read more

I got a shellac manicure and pedicure for a wedding by Hannah and she was also very nice, easy to talk to, and personable. I wish the manicure and pedicure were a little more attention, my whole nail isn't covered on some of the small side and you can tell the thickness of the shellac. Pictures do not look like real life shellac, the pictures look a lot nicer and cleaner. Not 100% happy and honestly thought about getting them re-done somewhere else. My toes are the same way with the polish. I will try somewhere else next time. read more

I had looked up the reviews on yelp and drove by one day. Walking in the door it smelled amazing! I asked for an appointment and they immediately had time to cut my hair. Now, four months later my haircut still looks amazing! I am so happy I found transformations and will definitely be back! I think the girl who cut my hair was called Lauren. I agree with all the reviews that said Colton is awesome. I got him by luck the first time I booked an appt asking for a cut and color. I have jet black hair and wanted some ombre highlights to a light caramel color and previous salons just never got the color right. He was so super sweet and professional and came in the day after Xmas when he was technically off. His service, skill, and suggestions were right on and I'm just sad I didn't come here before to get my hair done. Both color and cut were amazing, so if you haven't had any luck recently with your hair stylist, I'd absolutely recommend you try him. read more

When I was met by the stylist, she did not even introduce herself by name. Although she patiently listened to old stories of bad hair cut experiences, everything I said I wanted to avoid was everything I got. I have naturally curly hair that I let go gray as a result of disappointing experiences w/stylists in IC since moving back last year. I wanted dark blond w/dimensional highlights & layered tapering to remove bulk in the back. After application of color that burned my scalp, I was told it would take 45-min to process, but the stylist disappeared w/o checking back on me for over an hour until I asked a colleague to ask her to return. The color came out flat w/a red cast. My hair was cut after drying very little change from the blunt, over-grown style I had let it lapse into. When I asked for layering I ended up w/a pixie cut. At age 61 that is no longer cute :(. read more

Went and got tape in extensions put it. The people are super nice and the store is great but, my stylists didn't apply my tape ins correctly. I went to shower after the 48 hours I was supposed to wait before I could wash them and the tape all came apart. Now I have no extensions. I'm so angry. read more

Got a haircut and style \with Colton because my usually go to salon didn't have any opening for me (had a wedding to go to). Got a great hair cut, and the lady next to me mentioned in passing that I should consider a Brazilian blow out, which I got a couple weeks later. Staff are wonderful and friendly. My color and cut look great, however I was very specific with the length I wanted and the style with pictures in hand. Requested no shorter than shoulder length ... Moved from DC about a year and a half ago. Had a really lousy haircut in Chicago. I was really really lucky to find this hair salon and Colton, Who is a bona fide artistic Genius.
