Nice at first visit. Then kind of went off the deep end, so I decided to find someone else as a therapist.

When I first contacted Trevor, I was in the middle of a volatile divorce. A friend of mine urged me to call her saying that I just hadn't met the right therapist yet. I reached out during one of my lowest points. Trying to navigate through all of my emotions, I was feeling alone, scared and terrified. My initial contact with her was amazing! She was responsive immediately, calling right away and allowed me the time to explain where I was at and what prompted me to call her. She totally got it! I felt at ease from the moment that we spoke and that I was in the right place. My sessions over these years have been life altering. She has been there every step of the way. She is attentive, compassionate and kind. She genuinely cares. I'm grateful for this amazing soul therapist!

I'm writing in regards to the treatment my sister received in the PHP/IOP program. Initially the…read morestaff made an inappropriate recommendation for her to be admitted to their PHP program when she should have been referred for residential care based on her weight and inability to eat on her own. Fortunately, she did well in PHP and made some progress with her weight and eating. We were all so happy to see her have some hope for her recovery again. As insurance companies unfortunately do, my sister's abruptly cut her care. Center for Discovery agreed to continue her care in their IOP and my family paid out of pocket. This was not enough for support for my sister to continue on her positive trajectory and she quickly relapsed and became very ill while still a patient. The treatment team here not only communicated poorly with each other in regards to what was happening, but they communicated poorly with my sister's existing outpatient providers and once confronted by her personal medical doctor and psychiatrist, they first claimed that my sister was "just in a rough patch" and then when it became clear just how compromised she was, they said that she relapsed to get attention. These are supposed to be eating disorder specialists. They then discharged my sister without warning and with no plan for aftercare. My sister left their facility more medically compromised and with less hope or motivation than she entered with. They never followed up to see how she was doing. Clearly, my sister's well being was not a priority for them. My sister remained very ill for months and was very resistant to any treatment because of the betrayal she felt by this facility. My family is very grateful that she's doing better now but it's been a very long, hard road. I leave this review with the advice that if you or a close relative has an eating disorder, please get help sooner rather than later. But please seek out treatment anywhere but Center for Discovery. Their lack of professionalism, candor, responsibility, and empathy almost cost my sister her life.

Then attended outpatient therapy in Greenwich location. The staff including Emily (therapist) and Suzanne (nutritionist) are very caring and competent. The patient also benefits from support group of other patients. There is a weekly family night followed by Support in Recovery group, one for patients and the other for family members. The staff will help work with your insurance co. if you are fortunate enough to have coverage. CFD is excellent for treatment of eating disorders.

Before I further divulge into the specifics of BCW, I want to recognize and acknowledge that…read moreeveryone's experiences are different. Eating disorder recovery can be one of the hardest obstacles to overcome in some people's lives, and there are so many points where you're frustrated at others, or maybe just the process itself. It can feel daunting. I hope this review helps all kids in the now or in the future who may enter either the IOP, PHP, or Residential program at BCW. Just know that recovery isn't linear, and that even on a bad day- it's just a bad day and not a bad life. After all, progression is the goal, not perfection. Day to day at the Residential, various forms of therapy (ACT, DBT, CBT, etc.) along with a range of other topics pertaining to struggles one might have when confronting their eating disorder are to be expected. Based on my personal experience, the clinicians were very easy to talk to and incredibly open minded. They are able to challenge their clients, always asking the tough questions to make the clients think deeper and ultimately, gain a better understanding of themselves. Furthermore, I was fortunate enough to have a group of incredible kids in my milieu that offered alternative perspectives and help me grow and develop exponentially as an individual. The small program sizes can really make one feel much more supported and that your needs are always going to be prioritized within your clinical team. I also believe that BCW stands out from other eating disorder treatment facilities in that they take a family based approach, most notably utilizing FBT and IFS. Research has concluded that this is by far the most effective treatment technique to use when dealing with eating disorders. Additionally, the fluidity and flexibility of the treatment plans paves the way for a customizable treatment approach that is tailored to the needs of the individual, rather than a one-size fits all approach that other eating disorder treatment facilities may follow. Initially, when I found out I was going to be transferred to the BCW Residential program, I was terrified. The mere thought of constantly being in a food-focused environment and the inability to see my friends or even parents was extremely anxiety inducing. However, now out of the Residential program and currently in their IOP program, I can confidently say that this has been a truly life changing experience in such a positive way. It would have been an impossibility to recover without going through this extensive yet necessary recovery process. I became a more emotionally intelligent, kind, compassionate, thoughtful, aware, and fulfilled person. I found things within me that transcended food or exercise, whether it be core values I can always live with or the ability to connect with others on a deeper level. I cannot express enough gratitude to the BCW people (clinicians, care coaches, educational staff, and leadership staff). Most importantly, I want to thank all the amazing kids I was able to meet at BCW. Hope this review helps, and comment below if you agree or disagree with my thoughts and opinions.

Despicable and predatory business practices that prey on the already vulnerable. I was desperate…read morefor help, new and naive to having independent insurance, and thought my insurance would cover most of the (as I now know) ridiculously overpriced sessions. I was charged out of pocket a "sliding scale" amount of $325 (which was still more than full price as far as any other therapist would go) promptly to my credit card after every single session, and at the same time they filed a claim with my insurance for the full price $500. This is double billing, which if not out right illegal is at best shady. When I called my insurance I was informed of not only this wrong doing, but that as standard practice, a provider, out of network or not, who files claims with an insurance is not supposed to charge anything to patient until it has been processed through insurance. Further more, I was informed per my insurance's regulation they are only allowed to charge me ~$60 a session since they filed claims and thus entered into a contract with my insurance. I have called them twice with a representative from my insurance to explain in no uncertain terms what the situation was and to give them a chance to refund me. This was met with polite stonewalling nonsense that "they were not obligated to my insurance's laws because they were out of network." When I emailed them with extensive proof of my insurance's legal policy for out-of-network providers that shows that they legally can only charge 15% more than my insurance's allowed amount, I have been met with crickets. Since they have refused to refund me, per the advice of multiple representatives, I have filed a fraud suit with my insurance. As for my experience with the actual people, I had an incredibly brief "intake interview" with the Dr. Zackson, who's primary mission seemed to be getting off the phone with me as soon as possible instead of listening to my symptoms, I was pushed to take a male therapist when I'd explicitly expressed I wanted a female one. Outside of this, all the employees I came into contact with were polite, helpful, and seemed compassionate. And though I did not want a male therapist, I found use and made progress in the therapy I received before stopping treatment. But I cannot excuse this blatant exploitation of the vulnerable and the incredible audacity to continue to spout nonsense and withhold my money (which I desperately need as a self-supporting college student) when they are being confronted with the obvious reality of their wrong doing from multiple authoritative sources. Absolutely insidious behavior for a practice that claims to be about helping people.
