Not a professional place of work. Owner is disrespectful to employees and handles her business without kindness.

These people have no idea what they are doing. They're crooks…read more They do not appraise items and have zero clue as to the value of items. They tell everyone that their property is not worth anything so that they can accumulate more items with ease for their auctions. Their "shtick" is that they have been in business for a while. Seems like they have only mastered taking advantage of the customers. They aren't knowledgeable in their field --and do not have the educational documents to prove so. Their "gallery" is extremely small and dusty. Most definitely black mold. There is a foul odor from all the old furniture and stuff that they store before "auction." I doubt the place has ever been cleaned. There is no parking at this gallery and only paid parking far away. Their buyer fees have also escalated over the years. I know people who stopped using them years ago (solely because of this fact.) Reviews on other sites have revealed that they have been stealing from people and even out of homes. I know for a fact that accurate records aren't kept and once they have your belongings- phone calls aren't returned and your antiques go "missing." People at their auctions are buying stolen items. The buyer is purchasing these stolen items and paying them an additional 20-25%. The owners (Steve and Donna) are criminals. I wouldn't trust this company with anything. They admit that other big name apps and websites have taken over. Therefore they admit that their days are numbered-- so they are stealing. They also advertise themselves as a family business. This is not true of course. Their last names are Kurtz and Glaubman. No "Berman family" as they'd like for you to believe. These people are grade A liars. Definitely not to be trusted. At the end of the day, these people shouldn't be laughing. Myself and others have exposed their dishonesty. They are a very small company that pretends to be some sort of "big shot" while they steal from people. They just have very cheap rent since Dover, NJ isn't an exclusive area. They only have this one small location-- they never expanded. The reality is -- they are nobodies.

As a dealer I have been dealing with Bermans Auction Gallery for over 25 years and during that…read more period I have come to know and respect Donna, Sandy and Steve They aren't perfect, no one is but they are certainly not liars and crooks. I have always gotten paid for my consignments which number into to the thousands some of the lots have done as expected many less and a few over but that is the nature of the auction business. If I could of sold it at the retail level I would have. They always did their best in in an industry which usually has no good news for the consigner. I believe a lot of this anger I'm reading in these reviews is a result from people not being aware of just how little their stuff is worth. You can find this sad state of affairs documented in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. As to educational certificates what would you expect to find? A NYU Fine Arts degree which would come in handy for the Old Master painting but then that person usually knows nothing of the vast array of the middling wares this industry is made up of. When you sell your things at auction you always take a risk because it is here that you find out what the market thinks of your items which sadly is less and less these days. The auction house is just the messenger and it's not their fault the the current generation of young buyer doesn't care about Lladros or any collectible for that matter. The Bermans crew work very hard, they write a good check and I'm very grateful their here. I think people should be more mindful of the words they use because its rude and just not true in this case. That being said there is room for improvement but the are a legitimate company well suited to handle many types of estates John K

I took 7 paintings in for packing and Brian told me that he couldn't give an estimate until he did the work. He said that he charged $20 per hour in labor. In the end he charged $595. All the paintings were stuffed into a single box and they moved around when the box was tipped over. When I called to give him this feedback, he argued with me. He told me to try UPS or a moving company next time. I have used UPS to do some packing for me and they do a better job for 1/3 the price. I am one dissatisfied customer.

Brian is the worst business man you'll ever do business with!!!…read moreI gave him a limited edition Salvador Dali to repair a small piece on back of the artwork, all he had to do is add rice paper which I mentioned to him and he said he could do it easily and he is been doing this for long time, and promised to finish in 3 weeks. 5 months later after I kept calling and calling, he calls and says he is finished. As soon as I get home and open it I realized ho dry mounted the artwork on a black board, and simply just put it back into my frame and damaged the frame. I call and ask why did he do that knowing it'll destroy the value of the artwork, he said coldly "sorry I Fd up!" This man refused to share his insurance information with me, refuses to pay back for the money he took from me, he kept telling me that he spoke to the insurance and it's been taking care of, 3 months later after lies upon lies he says I'm not paying you sue me!!! He is rude, unprofessional, thief, liar, low life, and drunk. I'm attaching photo of the receipt and photos of the artwork after taking it to another art conservator and trying to save it. He doesn't deserve one star!

The owner's were clearly experts in their field because I learned more in that 30 minutes about 1960's furniture design than I thought possible. By appointment only, this "hidden gem" is just about the most killer shop west of NYC. THANK YOU Morristown Modern for a huge surprise in an area with very little to offer the savvy shopper. Your storefront on "1st Dibs" is incredible and a testament to the level of product you carry in your Gallery. That must be why many of your items are already sold or on hold. Don't miss this amazing shop people!

Unethical and Shabby Customer Treatment…read more I recently purchased a vintage Warren Platner sofa from Morristown Modern, which they said on their website had leather upholstery. After I received the sofa, the upholstery did not appear to be leather, so I took it to an expert who told me it was vinyl. I then called Morristown Modern and told them I wanted to return the sofa as it was not as advertised. They first told me I was wrong and said it was upholstered in leather. They then accused me of "going to a third party" to get it evaluated, whatever that means. They then said I had had plenty of time to realize that it wasn't leather when they delivered it. They then said they would take it back but wouldn't come to pick it up. When I called them to coordinate the return of the sofa at my own expense (I even offered to compensate them for delivering it to me in the first place!) they didn't return my calls. I mentioned to them that I would write about my customer experience with them on Yelp, which they described as me threatening them! I can't believe they would incur such unfavorable publicity to save a few bucks. Had they handled it properly, I would have likely been a return customer to them. Incidentally, they are currently selling the matching chair to the sofa and presenting it as leather too, so beware. I'm really disappointed in them. B. Cheney
