Don't bring your pet here, I found the lady who owns this place to be very rude. I took my cat in last May for a groom and I have been meaning to put a comment onto Yelp because I am still upset by the way she treated me and my cat. She told me to stop talking to her and they way she handled by cat was not ok. She was very rough with her. She told me come back in an hour she was going to give my cat a bath I said no am good and that I didn't want my cat to have a bath. Really I didn't want to leave her with this woman. She seemed mad and said that I should have my cat take a bath , I paid $125 full price , she didn't give me a discount due to no bath. I told my vet and she said cats do not need baths, there is no need for that. They clean themselves. Avoid this place she is not a nice person at all read more

Cut was ok but $75 for a 3 lb dog was a bit expensive. She was snippy. Not a relaxed environment like she says. You walk in and there's a very big noisy fan blowing, and her own dog was in a crate and wouldn't stop barking. My pup was scared! She told us 1.5 hours but since we wanted to stay and wait, then it was 25 minutes. Huh?? But most of all I will not go back to a groomer that said it's a lie about Yorkies having trachea problems. I took my dog here for the first time last week after our usual groomer moved away. Dixie is only 1 year old and has only been groomed a total of 4 times. Joyce did a great job making her feel safe and comfortable. It only took an hour and a half, when I picked Dixie up she was full of energy and seemed happy. She came home smelling great, super soft and fluffy, and they really listen to exactly what you want done. We are very happy with how neat her face is and how adorable she looks. read more

Joyce at tranquil paws is amazing! My dog Kona, has had allergies for about 6 years, he's now 7 years old. Every fall he get so itchy from allergies, he scratches himself until he's raw and bleeding. Joyce has a special regimen she gives him especially for his itchy skin, and it's like night and day! After he comes home from Tranquil Paws his itching is so much better! After bringing him there consistently, I have noticed this season's allergy symptoms were not nearly as bad as previous years! He is not raw, and his skin looks healthy! I also have to say, she is very good with animals, she talks to Kona, and makes him feel calm and cared for. I will never bring him anywhere else! He actually looks forward to going! The only negative would be that she hasn't cloned herself and opened up more shops! read more

Joyce is the best groomer I've ever worked with. My longhair tuxedo cat whose 14 years young has been seeing Joyce for over a decade. Originally found her through my vet and then she opened Tranquil Paws! In between I tried to find someone local and after a handful of terrible trials and more nicks on my poor fellas tummy than either of us could bare, I found where Joyce had opened up shop and now happily drive 45 minutes for the privilege. Prices are reasonable, service is impeccable and grooming is top notch. I recommend her to everyone I know with a pet, she's the best! I took my boys to see Joyce today for the first time and definitely will be the last! We got there a little early and before even greeting us she barked "you're early, there's a park across the street take them there!" She's rude and no customer service skills. The lady that owns this shop, Joyce Kahakalau, is very knowledgeable about dogs in general, especially skin and fur problems and treatments, and also offers a variety of massage therapies and teeth brushing. What's great about this shop is that she takes only one dog at a time, so there's no worry about your dog being caged for several hours. This is important to me because I have a short-mouthed breed who needs to drink water a lot and who is very scared of other dogs (he was a rescue). She does a great job trimming. Her prices are GREAT, and remember you are getting an exclusive appointment with a well credentialed professional. The shop is conveniently located at 68 Sea St. across from the Post Office in N. I brought my rescue Shih Tzu in for his first time with Joyce. Someone came in right behind me and Joyce came out and took my leash off and put her own on my dog then proceeded to drag my poor dog to the cages. I would have thought the first time she might try and get to know the dog. I was so shocked I left, I should have taken the dog with me but I didn't. I got call an hour later to say the dog was done.When I picked up the dog he acted very strange and the hair cut left much to be desired. I mentioned to Joyce that I wasn't happy about her dragging my dog to the cage and she just acted like it was an every day thing, that all dogs act like that. Terrible experience, I would never recommend anyone to bring their pets here. Set up an appointment and got there on time and then she made up all these excuses of why she couldn't groom my dog and only brush him, so I decided to sit in my car after I left to find another groomer and long and behold she started closing up the store 2.5 hours earlier than closing time which leads me to believe she simply didn't want to do the grooming for the apt we had set up and instead leave early. Which is terrible costumer service, she should have canceled earlier that day before I drove there. I would give NO STARS FOR HORRIBLE COSTUMER SERVICE ! read more

We simply could not be happier with Joyce! She has been amazing with all of our dogs, but especially our dog Bertie (a shitsu) who is mostly blind and was badly abused before we adopted him from a rescue org... and so can be, uhm, difficult with groomers. He was even fired by a few groomers. But Joyce has had no real problems with him and loves him and does excellent work with him. She's been a real blessing! Cannot recommend her more highly. read more

I read the review about a dog with allergies and another about the dog who was blind and had been abused. We have two little ones who are similar. Possum is a Chinese Crested mix who has the worst skin allergies you can imagine. He was found on the streets and has been abused. The care Joyce takes with him is what she gives to all her clients I'm sure and the soaps and soaks and the like help keep the skin under control. Our Maltese/schnauzer mix is blind and just had to have her second eye removed. After the first eye surgery, Joyce groomed Angel in such a fashion that her hair hid the scar. For the second one, she cut Angel's ears way back in order to keep any ear hair from sticking to the surgical site. We and our dogs wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

After a local vets office ruined my cats coats, made one afraid enough to hiss, not finish the soft paws application when it was never a previous problem and " manhandled them" I found Joyce for grooming. I was just there the for the first time and I hesitant but so happily surprised. Joyce was on time with the appointment , professional, started the nails and grooming with me watching and did a great job. I knew she had great skill when she jumped right in and I could watch. That gained my trust right away. The "girls" look beautiful and my family was very happy how clean they were, so well trimmed and adorned with bows. Lol. Joyce has groomed my two small dogs three times. She does an awesome job. My dogs (like most) are a bit skittish about being bathed and groomed, so I love that it really is tranquil when we arrive. My dogs are older, so Joyce keeps me updated if she has noticed anything (ear infection-yes he did have one that I was unaware of, skin issues, etc). When I picked them up today, they were both standing with her and wagging tails - very good sign! This has never happened at a groomer before. The fact that she gave them adorable haircuts is awesome also - I am very happy with Tranquil Paws. read more

Joyce is a grooming rockstar. She never fails to turn my tangled shih tzus into absolute pictures of perfection. Joyce is not only serious about how fabulous the dogs look, but is also sincerely invested in how they feel. She takes the time to listen to my concerns about itchy ears, tummy aches, (whatever the ailment of the hour may be) and incorporates these into a grooming plan that makes the grooming experience a breeze for Lucy and Charlie. The only thing tranquil about this place is the name. The first time we took our pet there, I found the owner to be a bit snippy and was immediately turned off. I thought maybe she was just having a bad day so we decided to give her another chance - a couple more to be exact. Every time we bring our pet in she has an attitude and always finds a reason to charge us more money. As for the grooming, it's terrible. She refuses to shave our pet as low as we've done with past groomers. The cut around the face is too long and the shave all over is uneven and generally messy. I can deal with the imperfect grooming, however the bad attitude leaves me to wonder how she treats our pets. And we are not the only ones who feel this way. We know of at least three people who have taken their pets to Tranquil Paws and have experienced the same snippy attitude from the owner. For the money and the service, there are far better places in the area. read more
