I called in Tramonti while looking for somewhere to eat in Barcelona, with this place being on the Diagonal Avenue and being quite close to my hotel, I decided to call in after noticing it had been mentioned in the Michelin Good Food Guide, which intrigued me.
The name of course comes from the year 1980, in which this place was founded which is rather impressive to see a small, family-run business to this day survive in the same location for 37 years.
There is a small seating area barside with a few tables however most of them seem to be either upstairs or down a few steps in the main area.
All the staff did seem nice, and they really tried to help me and understand English, my waiter even used a pen to draw a picture of a pineapple to show me what juice was which, and he later connected me to his own personal wi-fi, with his password which is faster and better than the free one normally provided to show me the type of potatoes they had.
In the end, I ordered a Spaghetti Carbonara having been told they were gluten free, even the chef came out which was nice and checked everything was gluten free, and he told me the pasta was gluten free too which is nice.
I was going to order some Al Forno potatoes until I found out they contained gluten, which was a real shame.
As I recall, the price was rather good value considering the quality and service.
My Spaghetti Carbonara was okay, it was a huge portion, however, I did find it to be slightly too rich, perhaps they tried to add more egg etc to account for the pasta being gluten free which was a really bad idea as I did feel a little ill afterward.
I also tried some of my friends chicken, and I found it to be quite a good quality chicken and as I recall it was garlic and rosemary but the flavours were nice and it was good quality.
This is why I'm struggling to review this place in terms of rating, the service was excellent and the pricing was okay, there even was free wi-fi which was a decent speed however my pasta, on the other hand, was just too rich, but still this place had a good feel about it, even with jerseys and photographs of athletes such as Alexis Sanchez from when he was at Barcelona (Little did I know just days later he'd be scoring the goal to send me home from Wembley with a City defeat) so this place has seemed to do enough to earn 3 stars as they did fill me with confidence eating here also, which I rarely got on my trip to Barcelona as a coeliac. read more
