I never like leaving a review for anything until I have an informed opinion, but this one is almost…read moretwo years overdue. I joined 9Round in the summer of 2021. I was coming off significant back issues and was hungry to get back into shape. I don't like "bro" gyms, and cardio was never my favorite either so I bounced around different places for a couple of months before a good friend recommended I check out the Lumina gym. In a matter of days, I was hooked. The 9Round workout is different from anything I had experienced before. You start with a one-on-one workout with a trainer to get oriented with the program and the stations. Almost immediately, you realize that the three-minute "rounds" go by extremely quickly - the martial-arts-style movements keep it super engaging, and the session is over before you know it. Again, I knew this was for me almost right away. I was clumsy and uncomfortable for a while, but the spirit of the trainers and the other members is very supportive - we're all learning new stuff every day, and we all sweat and grunt and look a little funny at times while we muscle through the workouts. It's a very fun vibe - a little bit Rocky, a little bit Karate Kid (1984), and just a hint of The Matrix. I know kung fu. I was very busy career wise for my first year at the gym, but I tried to make it in 4-5 days per week. Something that the 9Round marketing doesn't convey is the immense stress reduction you get from their workouts. Whatever is gnawing at you at the end of the day melts away after 30 minutes of jumping rope, smacking around a speed bag and running through a trainer drill. Although the program will encourage you to stay "in the yellow" on your heart-rate monitor, I found that the therapy value I get "in the red" was more profound than yoga, meditation, and well... actual therapy combined. I was losing weight, increasing stamina and feeling bloody fantastic. About ten months ago, my wife got jealous of all the fun I was having, and she started joining me for daily workouts. She got the plot even faster than I did and was hooked just as much. I was a little defensive of my guy time in the beginning, but surprisingly, this place is totally wired for couples. We have a blast competing in weekly challenges as well as in trying to embarrass the trainers with our weird sense of humor... All of the members we've met here are friendly, approachable and totally in the zone! Although you're in close proximity, each station feels private - everyone is in their own headspace and their own struggle. The subtext of camaraderie is very cool. All ages, all abilities, we all go all in. This has been a year of big changes for us. It's not totally relevant to this review, but we have had multiple hard losses in our immediate family. At times, everything felt upside down, but the gym was always there for us. After a while, we started going twice per day - once in the morning to get our heads right for the day, and once after work to bring the stress levels back down. I completely credit 9Round for a lot of healing that's happened. Sure, the workout is phenomenal, and you get lots of feelings out on the heavy bag rounds. But the best asset 9Round has going for it is the extraordinary trainers. Every one of the professional trainers we work with at 9Round is knowledgeable, fun, and engaging. They meet you where you are on the workout side and help you to advance and get stronger. On top of that, they are also some of the kindest, friendliest people we've met in Wilmington. There has never been a bad day at the office they can't make better. We consider them our friends as well as our fitness coaches. These folks work hard every day, and we appreciate it very much. I'm in the best shape I've been in since my 20's. For realsies. My diet is probably a B- at best, but I'm down 20 pounds and 10 points of body fat. My back problems are negligible now. This is not an infomercial! Get yourself into the gym, do three or four workouts, and see for yourself if I'm exaggerating. *fist bump*

I started as a complete beginner about a month ago. I dreaded stepping into a gym and severely struggled to even walk in the doors of my previous gym. The upbeat, welcoming, and patient environment that Matt and his team had from the first moment I walked in makes me excited to now go to the gym three times a week. I actually find myself having a fun time while there. I'm telling you that this is the first time in my life that I want to work out and that is a BIG DEAL! I cannot say enough good things about this entire gym and the experience I have had so far. Put your trust in Matt and his team and you will see your life change in such a short time. From my very first visit, everyone on the staff was incredibly kind, welcoming, and supportive. I worked directly with Rachel as my health coach, and she is truly one of the most encouraging and compassionate people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. She celebrated every success, helped me through the challenging weeks, and genuinely cared about my progress and overall health. The program combines non-medical supplements and metabolism boosters with a structured nutrition plan designed to help you lose weight safely and build healthier habits. It does require commitment, but if your goal is to lose weight and improve your health, this program absolutely delivers. One of my favorite parts was the weekly check-ins. Each visit included a full body scan so I could actually see how my body composition was changing, which was incredibly motivating. They also provide daily recipes through both email and their app, making it much easier to stay on track without getting bored with the same meals. In just a few months, I lost nearly 50 pounds. More importantly, I gained my confidence back. A little over a year later, they still check in to see how I'm doing and make sure I have everything I need. Knowing they're always available if I have questions or need support says a lot about how much they care about their patients. They offer other wellness services as well, although I only participated in the weight loss program. This program changed far more than the number on the scale. After years of medical issues that made losing weight impossible, I finally felt like I had control over my health again. I recently got married, and I can honestly say there is no way I would have even tried on the style of wedding dress I ended up wearing before going through this program. Thanks to the confidence and health I gained, I felt absolutely beautiful on my wedding day. I'm also heading into an adventurous honeymoon excited instead of worried about whether my body can keep up. If you're looking for a medically supervised weight loss program with an amazing team that truly cares about your long-term success, I wholeheartedly recommend the Wilmington Weight Loss Program.
