Excellent hotel and restaurant. 100 years old in 2017!! I'm so glad they've renovated the hotel and…read morerestaurant to its Roaring Twenties glory! Amazing decor. Amazing rooms (get the air conditioned ones in the Summer.) Fun restaurant. Wonderful gifts including antiques in the gift shop. And to top it all off the geyser is incredible and more regular than Old Faithful! The town is small, but historic and fun. Don't miss the town park!!

This is one of the few hotels that does not have webpage, and now I know why. If this hotel…read moreactually posted its policies then NO ONE would ever even call. Since they don't post their policies, they will get the odd couple or solo traveler who will never know the difference. The policy that irks me so much is that they do not allow any more than 2 people per room. This means that if a couple has a baby or a small child they will insist upon you renting 2 rooms (for double the cost,... quite the scam). And what kind of parent is going to separate a young child from one or both of their parents. When I asked about this, the manager simply said "that is the policy" and then HUNG UP ON ME. I mean WTF? Is there no common decency left in the world. If the manager has been polite about their policy I would probably be ok with it, but I was genuinely surprised that she actually expected a parent to abandon a child to an unfamiliar room in an unfamiliar town in an an unfamiliar building. Can you imagine the trauma of a child who wakes up from a nightmare in this sort of situation. Unbelievable. Now, to put this all into perspective. I was inquiring about a room during the Caribou County Fair. All other hotels in a 20 mile radius were booked... except this one. Doesn't that tell you something about the quality here... that very few were willing to stay here in the (relatively) largest town in the area. The final thing that really put me off about this hotel is that the manager kept on asking me for my name and credit card information... all when I was just trying to get additional information about the hotel... like if there is a private bathroom and the size of the bed.... you know, basic stuff. It was like she was a Nigerian Prince trying to get my personal information for identify theft or credit card fraud. No kidding, she asked me at least three times for my credit card information BEFORE I even said I was willing to book a room. So, the manager's insistence of abandoning my child in a strange environment and the aggressive insistence upon getting my credit card number before I was even ok with it really put me off. The rudeness and the insecurity I feel about the place will ensure that I will NEVER stay here. When I called back again to speak to the manager, she hung up on me again!!! I have never experienced a service-based industry that is so lacking in basic human decency. The sad part about the whole thing is that the restaurant is actually pretty decent, especially for Soda Springs. I ate there that morning actually, good service (but my toast took 20 minutes to be delivered... again, WTF?). BUT after this experience, I will NEVER go back again. I am so disappointed, especially since I purchased a memoir history of the hotel... and guess what kind of stories are in the first 3 chapters of the book.... stories about roll-away beds for that third individual staying in the hotel. But these are stories from 30-50 years ago. I have stayed in the other motels/hotels in Soda and they are also horrible. I have stayed in multiple hotels/motels in Lava Hot Springs and they are ok. By far the best hotel experience was renting a small house in Lava. More reviews on that later. Stay away from this place. If this is how they treated me when I was looking to get a hotel room, imagine what kind of service you will get if there is a problem once you get a hotel room. All I can say is good luck and I hope no fraudulent charges appear on your credit card. Oh, and they wanted to charge me $95/night per room for this. That is more than I would pay for a basic hotel in the Big City... with actual amenities such as a private bathroom, a pool, or a coffee maker, etc. --------------------- Update: The best place I have found to stay in Caribou County ID is the Alpaca Inn in Lava Hot Springs. Really, it is fantastic. http://www.yelp.com/biz/alpaca-inn-lava-hot-springs
