Mike is a down to earth guy, who can be intense about somethings -- which speaks of his Greek heritage -- but he's a genuinely good guy who gives an amazing cut. His dad cut hair, his uncle cut hair, he cuts hair. Sometimes when he isn't there on Saturday, he's taking care of his aging mother, and she comes before anything else. He's Greek. Family is everything. But don't think he doesn't care about his customers, because for him, they're his 2nd family. The shop isn't fancy, but the haircut is great, and you feel good about yourself after your visit. If you haven't tried Mike's Hobart Barber Shop, you're missing out on an amazing slice of hometown professionalism that so many other places can't dream of sharing with you.

I needed to get "cleaned up" for a funeral and my usual barber wasn't available. Went online and…read moresaw this location and was able to book a hair and beard trim appointment during my lunch break. Not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised. The barbers were dressed professionally and very friendly. While the decor was what I would expect in a barber shop, I think the antique/classic barber chairs was a sign that this wasn't just another barbershop. You don't have those unless you love your profession. I was assigned to Chase, who cut his lunch break short even though I was the one who was 15 minutes early. I explained how I would like my hair and beard trimmed, and he went to work. He took his time and recommended several style changes for my approval before trimming. I'm not one for small talk during a haircut, but the barbers working that day were having an open conversation and I felt relaxed enough to even join the conversation, which is totally not me. But it definitely helped the time pass quickly and made the experience more enjoyable. Once done, Chase spun me around for a view in the mirror, and I thought he did a fantastic job. But the real approval would be made by my wife, who was waiting in the car. She liked it so much, she suggested that I change my barber. So, while it wasn't my intention, looks like Chase will have a new client. The prices here are a little higher than what I usually pay, but with the quality of work, it's well worth the price. It was really refreshing to find a barbershop that was open not to just cut hair, but to find people who understand and enjoy their craft.

Was waiting for me when I came, really professional, and three people have asked who cut my hair, so I passed on his name. General warning -- one guy, who happens to be the owner, has all the warmth of an SS soldier standing guard at the showers of a death camp. Seems to enjoy being rude to people. Barbers were welcoming, greeting people by their first names when they entered, social, and overall comfortable and engaging. When it was my turn, I was greeted by Jason with a handshake and asked exploratory questions about what I was looking for. Jason totally understood me and gave great suggestions. He was extremely professional and detailed. Before he started he explained every step he would make along the way to ensure we were on the same page.
