I rarely go to Trader Joe's because the parking situation at this one and the one at the Pruneyard is not great. Today I had lunch at Lazy Dog at Almaden Plaza, and since I already had a parking space, decided to walk over to Trader Joe's afterward. I'd been wanting to try the Slightly Coated Dark Chocolate Almonds and quickly found them. They're seasoned with cocoa powder, sea salt, and maple sugar. So yum. Couldn't resist getting a package of Lebkuchen chocolate-covered gingerbread cookies, which I hadn't had in years. The cookies are soft and delicious. They had salmon for a pretty good price, so I picked up a fresh fillet and a package of smoked salmon for my morning bagels. Also got a beautiful container of giant strawberries. The store was crowded and it was difficult to navigate the aisles, but checkout was surprisingly fast. I'm not sure when I'll go back, but I've enjoyed all the sweets I bought today. read more

Thankful that this store opens at 8 am. Don't understand why some stores open at 9am. This store is so full at 8 am. Pity the stores that sleep till 9 am because this store makes bank because of that extra hour!! Deservedly so! I've never seen a store so bustling with customers and workers stocking every shelf! Shout out and a big Thank you to Melissa at Almaden TJ! I spoke to her a month ago about ordering flowers for my daughter's wedding and preordering is no longer possible. She suggested that we arrive at the store right when the store opens for best selection on the day in need. And we did just that! She pulled a cart from the back with additional flowers and provided buckets with water. We filled several carts and made our purchase on a Saturday for a Monday wedding. Love this TJs! It's such a great experience in local South Bay Area. The staff are super friendly, attentive, and helpful. I was looking for enoki mushrooms but they don't carry any, but they happily referred us to another business next door. That's so nice - helping the community by uplifting neighboring businesses. My mom loves shopping here for vegetables. I love going around the snack aisle and finding occasional free samples. This location doesn't have the iconic tote bags unfortunately, or I've never seen them here. It can get hectic during peak shopping hours but it's a good experience. read more

Came by this morning for my weekly grocery run. Trader Joe's is by far my favorite grocery store. The Almaden location is conveniently located close to my house. The prices here are very reasonable. The customer service here is incredible. All the employees are very helpful and kind. They have the best frozen foods and I look forward to their new items. There's a section in the store dedicated to the new arrivals. It's very clean, organized and tidy. Employees are stocking the shelves when I go in the early morning and they have all the shelves looking nicely stocked. I always look forward to coming here and chatting with some of the friends I've made here. read more

The food here is good quality, definitely fresh, and I'd rather shop here than in Safeway. The service is good with MAJORITY of the crew. However, had an experience today with my little sister past the cashier section looking at bags and crew member "Jerry" with glasses rudely told her to stand at the other side and not be behind the cashier when clearly she was past them looking at the bags. In all our years of shopping at Trader Joe's, never before have we been treated so rudely by a staff member as we were today by "Crew Leader" Michael, who berated my wife in the rudest way about a spoiled product she came to return. Michael berated her on the basis of his assertion that the product instructions called for refrigerating the product immediately after purchase, which he surmised she did not do. The problem is that the instructions called for keeping in a "cool, dry place," which we did, calling for refrigeration only after the product had been opened, which it had not been. It spoiled well before the expiration date stamped on the package, the directions on which we had followed to the letter, making the very rude berating uncalled for. Customers who over the years spend thousands of dollars at an establishment deserve better treatment. N.B. Even if Michael had been correct, disparaging the customer in such an ugly way is inappropriate. An employee like that does not belong in a customer-facing position. read more

I absolutely love TJs! Workers are both helpful and friendly. I came in with a Costco cart (recent purchases next door before going the the car). 5 minutes into my shopping, was stop by a friendly worker saying he needed to swap the cart. I totally understand. He even helped with the transfer! While the workers are great, I don't think I've been to a TJ store with so many A hole customers! It start even before I walked in. Lady was looking at flowers at the entry totally blocked anybody from getting in. She turned and looked at me like I had the problem! Kids wandering around the store with no parents. This is a pretty standard Trader Joe's and it's in a convenient shopping center. Also, it's pretty close to Costco so a good place to get items if you're not wanting to buy in bulk. I also love the selection of the flowers and there's different sizes for making arrangements. There's also a great selection of fruit and produce. Also, I love the snacks there with the different nuts, dried fruit, and chips. We also like the drink selections for non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. I went to this location when I was in the neighborhood. I was picking up a few things for my house. I came across their seaweed snack. I had only bought 1 bag, but wished I bought more. It's a bit spicey, but they're really good. This is one of the busiest locations. Parking is a bit tricky, especially on the weekends. Everyone and their mama is shopping here. OMG! Hijole! Have you tried the corn dip and these organic spicy corn chips Trader Joes has. Look at my pics. The corn dip comes in a bottle. You buy it and take it home and put in the fridge so it's nice and cold. Perfect for the heatwave passing through us here in San Jose Ca. Put the dip in a small plate for dipping action with those chips. Then you pop open a cold one. Your choice of course soft drink or beer or glass of wine and then let your mouth enjoy the perfect little yummy before any meal you are going to have. The prices are perfect for the pocket book and if you like spicy stuff. You will enjoy. They also are great to have with a lunch sandwich cold cuts. The so-called sliced rings of calamares were inedible , resembling more a scientific misguided lab project that felt like chewing large rubber bands. I have been in Trader Joe's less than 10 times over the past few years. Until today (1/17 about 3:00), every time I had left the store, I felt happy that I was there because of the friendly checkers/employees. That was not the case today. While shopping in a refrigerated area, when I asked if an employee knew where an item was, she pointed without saying a word. That left me feeling uncomfortable. When I went to check out, the cashier did not say hi nor greet me in any way. I waited a moment as he started scanning my items before I said, "hi." He did respond. I am not a regular, so I have no idea when the change of unfriendly employees working there happened. I think the last time I was there was last Dec., and the couple of employees I talked with were smiling and friendly. I love Trader Joe's, but this location is unfortunately a miss. It has very limited products.. Most of the ones you'd see at other locations, they don't have it here! I was disappointed. A lot of the fruits were also not as fresh. I was at Oakridge and decided to do some grocery shopping. I didn't really enjoy the tres leches cake. It was weird, and didn't have any cinnamon either. The chantilly cake was alright, although the sheet cake is more like a muffin to me. It's also pretty dry. The service is great. Cashier was kind and asked me if I found everything I needed. One of the smaller Trader Joe's I've been to but this isn't the issue here. I tried to return a shower gel and scrub I simply did not like but I lost my receipt. The managers usually process the returns and he looked at my products and said the return policy changed "a while ago" that I no longer can return without a receipt. There's no sign indicating this change. I think he just didn't want to help me period and didn't apologize for the inconvenience. Upon searching online this isn't the case. Returns are still accepted without receipt. I've been to multiple other TJs where returns were welcomed. I guess they don't welcome customer satisfaction here even though I spend hundreds of dollars each time I shop here. Good location, good staff, and good food. But bad experience recently. I've been shopping here for years. I'm not going into details but it was disappointing walking up to the front of my neighborhood Trader Joe's this week and getting a bad comment from a staff member before I even entered to store to shop?? I'm always in a great mood and excited to see staff but unfortunately that was not the case recently. I parked and walked all the way from the other side of the plaza this time because parking is getting worse and worse here at Almaden Plaza. I didn't deserve to be told to "keep it moving" from one of the staff members while collecting carts during his shift. It was rude and miscommunication on his part. And it frankly hurt my feelings because I have introduced myself to many of these employees on a name to name basis and it really has resulted in a bad vibe with the overall experience of shopping at my neighborhood Trader Joe's now! Sad but true. Hoping my next shopping experience at this local Trader Joe's will be a positive one. I've spent a lot of money here supporting this company and all I ask for is respect, help in the store if needed, and if you make a mistake to be accountable for your own actions. This store is not COVID 19 friendly. Came in today and there was a worker not wearing a mask. It is super annoying how they do not offer customers masks if they do not have one as well. I haven't been to Trader Joe's in a while mostly because we are trying to focus on buying organic fruits and veggies; the reality is that the produce at Trader Joe's doesn't last as long or is as good as quality as Whole Foods. (But Whole Foods = Whole Paycheck, sooo....) That's literally the only bad part about Trader Joe's (that and they didn't have delivery during the quarantine so my heart missed Trader Joe's)...but now that's out of the way, let's focus on the pros. Their snacks/packaged goods are awesome! They have literally everything that can and would satisfy your cravings. I still think about their turkey stuffing chips (seasonal!), and their holiday chocolates. Also: Two Buck Chuck was basically invented here, so....get wine whether you want to drink it or cook with it, or both :). Also: cost. So incredibly affordable compared to whole foods. Not to mention, all the staff here are friendly and helpful and they give stickers to kiddos. When you're at whole foods, you hope/pray that there is some other cashier that will help bag your groceries, but at Trader Joe's, you don't have to get anxious about that. It's an automatic. It's a given. The cashiers must be trained in super fast grocery check out/bagging while socializing. I've always been incredibly impressed. If you've been to one Trader Joe's, you've been to them all. This one is attached to a pretty big lot, and it's close to a small product market (Real Produce) and a Costco. So you can get essentially all your shopping done in one trip. I do wish they would bring back the unlimited samples and coffee. At least the coffee. Please? Even if you have to bring your own cup. Shopping is boring and some caffeine is helpful to avoid the crushing ennui of buying boring things like nuts and and olive oil and tomatoes. Like all Trader Joe's, the staff is almost cultishly nice. And I've still not been able to figure out what the bell ringing means. I never notice whatever precedes it and it's never happened at a register I'm at, so I feel like a stumped Sherlock Holmes. Someday I'll crack the case. Anyway, it's a good store for cheap groceries. Especially organic bananas. And the prepared food isn't bad and they have plenty of gluten-free, vegan, etc stuff. And their frozen food isn't bad. Nothing's bad! Now, some things are suboptimal, like their crispy habañeros in olive oil. Why oh why do they use olive oil? Yes it's fine for pizza, but it tastes weird in Mexican and Asian foods, and I bought the crispy habañeros with that in mind. The olive oil flavor ruins the taste. Imagine Singapore noodles. How good would some crispy habañero be in that, right? But now imagine it also tastes like olive oil. That's weird, right? I wish they would use a neutral oil instead. Honestly Italian food doesn't really lend itself to habañero heat levels so I find this very strange. So yeah, it's a limited kind of grocery with cheap, quality vegetables and prepared foods and some oddball items. read more
