There are definitely a few goodies here for those craving a taste of Aotearoa. Interestingly the shop doesn't appear to be staffed by Kiwi's. In fact we had an amusing conversation with the lady behind the counter because we were drawn in there by the chance of finding NZ cooked fish and chips. She told us she was a local, had been doing chips for years and couldn't see any real difference in how they were cooked. She managed to burn the fish while explaining this. In her defence the portion size we went home with was reasonably generous and they certainly weren't the worst we'd tried in Brisbane. We'd arrived near closing time but noted their espresso counter while we were there. They look like they do a roaring lunchtime trade in Merlo coffee and cafe food too.

You see, I often visit family in a unit block next door but I'm usually there after hours and as you may have noticed, WIckham Tce after hours is pretty dead. When I visit my family, I've often come straight from work and am dying for a Coke or something to go with dinner or someone needs me to get milk or whatever. So, finally that FOR LEASE sign went down, and Busy Bee bumbled in. It's a pretty typical little convenience store, but it is such a godsend where it's located. They sell some random little knick-knacks and a few imported goods to which always makes for some interesting impulse buys. The staff here don't speak much english but they're so lovely. Busy Bee often has good deals too, things like two for ones or drink/snack combos. I know lots of places have these (especially pretor stations), but Busy Bee's are actually worthwhile in terms of value which is a nice change. So if for some reason you're ever on Wickham Tce after hours (and you'll be one of the only ones) and you need an ice cream or some cheezels, rejoice! Busy Bee has the sweet stuff (lame joke, I'm sorry). But seriously, how cute is the name and the sign!

It is because of this that I always find myself at Eat N Runway in the Virgin side of the Brisbane Domestic Terminal. Eat N Runway has a range of drinks and snack available for purchase before your big flight. As I said, I often just grab an overpriced water but occasionally impulse buy and grab a Mars Bar or packet of chips as well. Eat N Runway is well set out in the food court area, covering a wall with its goods, making it very easy to see everything and grab exactly what you were looking for. The way it is designed like a runway works well in tempting you into other good as well as being a nice play on the whole airport theme. While definitely sporting the typical airport pricing system, you can't go past Eat N Runway just for convenience sake.

I'm glad of the change because the prices at Eat n Runway were a bit cheaper and they had better vegetarian options (my gf doesn't eat meat). They have a range of toasties for a couple of bucks cheaper than Aromas. They even do sealed packs of sushi, although they are about $10. In the end the food came out in good time and I was happy enough. The tomato on my cheese & tomato toastie was a little insipid, but it was covered in a generous amount of melted cheese (always good). The coffee was a little burnt but it was hot and still hit the spot.
