American River Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine - Our wonderful doctor, Dr. Thygeson

BOTTOM LINE: Excellent Pediatrician! Dr. Thygeson has our utmost confidence and endorsement as a…read morepediatrician and we trust him with the most precious little person in our life, our 2-month-old son. We were fortunate to have found Dr. Thygeson thanks to a recommendation by our labor and delivery nurse at the hospital. She highly recommended Dr. Thygeson based on her personal experience with him both in the hospital setting and with her children, which are currently under his care. WHAT WE LOVE: Aside from providing the knowledge and expertise that you come to expect from an M.D., Dr. Thygeson is a great listener, he makes himself available to his patients, he is respectful of parent's beliefs/decisions, and he genuinely cares about children (he's a dad himself). GREAT LISTENER: As first time parents, we had tons of questions and were (quite frankly) clueless as to how to care for a newborn child. During our many visits with Dr. Thygeson, he always took the time to listen and understand our questions and concerns before he jumped in to address them or make any recommendations. He also never rushed us. We frequently left his office satisfied knowing that all of our questions/concerns had been adequately addressed. AVAILABLE: Dr. Thygeson made himself available to us (both via phone and face-to face) from the moment we met him. All doctors say they are available, but as we all know, when push comes to shove you realize it's not true. This is not the case with Dr. Thygeson, he is true to his word. For instance, we were discharged from the hospital on New Years Eve and Dr. Thygeson asked us to come into his office for a check-up that same day (on a national holiday!). His office was closed that day, however he came in just for us and did this on several other occasions. RESPECTFUL: There are many decisions that we had to make as new parents such as whether to breastfeed and whether to circumcise. Dr. Thygeson never pressured us to do anything. Instead, he provided options objectively along with the pros and cons of each and let us decide how we wanted to move forward. He also provided us with helpful resources including access to a lactation consultant in his office (if we needed it). CARING: Dr. Thygeson is not only a doctor, he is a dad and it is clear by the way that he handles our son that he truly cares about children. Additionally, as a parent himself he understands the joys and struggles of being new parents, so he also frequently checked in on us (especially mom) to make sure we were doing okay. NICE OFFICE: There are multiple clean patient rooms and a friendly/helpful front office staff and 2 waiting rooms (one for healthy children and one for ill children), which made us feel better about bringing our newborn in. They also have a great electronic patient records database because during each visit, our son's statistics are taken and compared to the national averages along with a trend-line so we can track his progress from previous visits. Our boy is 2 months old now and he is healthy and getting bigger and stronger everyday. Dr. Thygeson has given us invaluable advice and worked with us on a personal level to help us manage the difficulties of being first-time parents. We couldn't have asked for a better pediatrician now and in the future as our son grows.

From the first visit, I knew that my twins would continue with Dr. Thygeson. He was very responsive…read moreand helpful. Once, when I was busy with the kids, he called me three times just to make sure that I went to the right place to have the blood test done for my twins because they have jaundice. The next day, he called me again just to make sure if I had the blood test for the kids. After he checked the results, he called us and informed us about the results, which was something to make us calm because we were worried about the kids I'm very satisfied with this doctor, and I recommend him for your kids

He is holistic minded, understand parents who want a more natural approach and does an exponential job explaining everything & making sure we are making decisions based on education. Because he is so amazing, it may take a while to become an established patient and he does his pricing different, but that's what works for him and his office. And he has every right to run his office the way he wants. It may not be the right fit for everyone- and that's okay! Additionally, I just wanted to express how grateful I am for all the times I had to make an emergency appointment and their staff was able to get me in the same day or next day to get the best care for my daughter. The homeopathic remedies works wonders!! I'm always amazed at how quickly her symptoms subside and her body is able to better adapt to the situation. Thank you Dr. Allen for being an amazing pediatrician. Our community needs more doctors like you! I'm so thankful to live close enough to be able to have my daughter under care!

Dr. Allen and the whole staff at Center for Living Health are all extraordinary…read more Before my son was born I hunted high and low for a pediatrician that would a great support my child and any future children I would have. I had a lot of qualities that the Doctor would need to possess and needless to say Dr. Allen went way above and beyond. My son was born woth a rare genetic disease which did not really take full effect until his second birthday. Dr. allen was able to see he was showing signs of delay very early on and referred us to the early start program. He was so kind as to encourage us with a message of hope that we would help Finn overcome his challenges. He was able to supply us with healthier options for teething issues, as well as, giving us advice on sleeping and preventing fevers. Dr. Allen helped us navigate the devastating turn shortly after my son's second birthday. After a two month stay at Lucille Packard Children's Hospital, our first stop was to see Dr. Allen. He was very quick to help build back up the encouragement that Finn is going to do exactly what Finn is going to do. Dr. Allen has given us a deeper insight on labs and diagnosis, he has been wonderul at giving us supplements to help combat the side effects for the nasty medication he needs to be on and hes helped with pain management. He has also given us so much help when we have emergency hospital visits. He has supported mothers intuition (which has been right thus far) he has referred us to compassionate specialists. All I can say is, we live Dr. Allen. He and his team and a bright and guiding light during our very dark journey and I am so grateful yo have such a caring, honest and intelligent doctor double check the qork of everyone else that is involved in Finns life. All doctors should be like Dr. Michael Allen!

My kids have been with this office for 13 yrs up until our doctor retired A few years ago and all of the office staff started changing the whole dynamics of the office changed. I've had issues where I've called and been spun in circles for myself and I've had to call back and speak with 10 different people and tell people how to do their job in order for me to be seen (i got a letter then to) but what about the apology when I'm paying to be seen? What about the Customerservice? What about the one Call # resolution Sutter is going downhill At this office, maybe they shouldn't accept so many patients knowing that kids are gonna have to wait six months For rescheduled appointmentsI've had issues where my kid can't get an appointment for six months for vaccinations, but they're blocking out times in the day for sick kids when it's already holidays and the doctors are always off yet the sick kids instead of getting same-day appointments which has never been available in the past of me having sick kids is super inconvenient And also makes no sense since Sutter offers emergency rooms, walk-in clinics and urgent cares all over Sacramento that could be utilized for sick kids instead my kids should have to wait six months to reschedule their physical I Was speaking with a medical assistant of Dr. Sheng her name is Melissa in my experience she's always had an attitude and is super rude. I've always ignored it this day when I reschedule. She offers me an appointment six months out gives me all these excuses as to why my kids can't be seen during the holidays and all these appointments that are blocked out she doesn't offer me a message to the doctor which I know is an option. She doesn't offer me a slot on the cancellation list but because I explained how I felt about appointments being blocked off for sick kids and I made a comment that maybe some of my kids are older. I should take them across the street to family medicine. Maybe it'll be easier to get appointments. She took it to the Doctor Who took it to the manager. Her name is Christina and they decided to send me a letter that if I was rude or disrespectful again that my kids would be Dropped from their program I called in regards to the letter they put the manager Christina on the phone from the moment we got on the phone as I'm explaining everything I can hear her tone of voice she seems irritated or frustrated. You can tell she has like a pre-opinion. I could tell that she was on the medical assistant side and then she kept saying uh-huh, yeah uh-huh yeah the whole conversation didn't justify any of the things that I said, and then when I said that the medical assistant was rude in my past, she said well there's two I knew her by name. I've been going here for 13 years. She probably hasn't even been there as long as we've been patients Christina tells me well yeah we made that decision together and basically they're standing on it so I'm gonna look for a new office for my kid but all of this time that they're putting into dropping somebody that's been there since they were a child and I'm now in my 30s that they could be putting into ensuring that these people that they employ and pay all this money every hour is doing their jobs and it is also conducting themselves correctly on their end I think the office would be a lot more successful like it used to be before. Christina probably became a manager. I honestly think because I know she has access to my chart and can see that I called back and spoke with somebody else and I told them that she didn't do her job thoroughly that she complained on me to the doctor and the manager cause I wasn't rude to her freedom of speech, I can have an opinion instead of trying to drop me or my kids instead, they should be trying to take the advice, but they just lost someone who always has spoke so highly of this office even my sisters are grown and went here since kids
