PLEASE NOTE: This shop is in NEW YORK, and it has nothing to do with the Aquatics and Exotics in Roanoke, Virginia where that awful assault of that woman happened. It is not affiliated with them in any way, shape, or form. Aquatics and Exotics is a name that both businesses just happened to choose, but they are not a franchise. THIS IS NOT THE RACIST PLACE. It makes me so sad to see someone who did nothing wrong get attacked for something that a stranger in another state did. OK! Now that that mess is out of the way, this little shop has what you need. So many beautiful driftwood and fancy stone options for hardscaping your aquascape. Do you want black and white stripey stones? You can find that here! Dragonstone for dramatic spires and cliffs? Yep! Cool aquamarine colored greenstone? Yeah, they have that, too! Do you like plants for your tank? Well, he grows his plants himself! Submerged, so they won't be nearly as likely to "melt" as the plants you mail order from big plant businesses that mostly grow their plans emersed (roots in water, leaves in the air) tend to. Leaves that grow in the air are not the same as leaves that grow underwater for aquatic plants, so if you buy a plant that has been grown out of water, it's gonna drop all those leaves and try to grow new ones, instead. I got some lovely plants here, and none of them died at all. They're also acclimated to the water we have around here, as are the fish! You WILL get snails if you don't treat the plants you get from here, but that really isn't a bad thing. The snails will eat algae and biofilm. They'll happily slide around like the little janitors they are. We got a brown ramshorn snail, and a grey one, as well as some bladder snails, in with our plants, and everyone in my household spends a bit of time each day trying to find the ramshorns. The fish are all quarantined before being put in to the main tanks. This is vital, and not something that happens at most big box pet stores. The fish you get here are much more likely to be healthy and stay healthy. They are far less likely to get your existing fish sick. It's a small shop, but he carries a nice variety of fish, snails, and shrimp. Do you have a favorite color? He probably has shrimp that come in that color. Do you love rainbow fish? He carries some really lovely ones. My tank is too small for them- they are schooling fish that can get to be 4 inches long- but if I had a bigger tank, I'd for sure get some from here. Mystery snails are excellent tank cleaners, and quite pretty. Lots of seachem and API products here, as well as high quality LED lights, nice filters, substrate, gravel, ETC. If you are an aquarium nerd, you can get your aquarium nerd on here, like I do. I drive over 40 minutes to go here instead of the closer big box pet stores. It is worth the drive!

In her 6 years of life, she's never had a bad experience. She's even gone to the groomers pregnant, couple days before giving birth, and had no issues. Since the Velvet Dog is closed, we were forced to go elsewhere. I warned the new groomers that Khaleesi doesn't enjoy the electric clippers. In fact she will try to get the clippers. Similar to how she attacks the vacuum when I pull it out. When I picked her up after work, the woman explained Khaleesi didn't handle being on the table well but they were able to get it done and keep her beard like I asked. Nothing more was said about her behavior or experience. Upon leaving, these pictures show how I found her eyes. Immediately I began calling the woman I just picked the dogs up from. When asked what happened she had no idea, she explained she didn't work today and she would have to call the girls who groomed her. Now obviously, I wasn't calm, collective, or patient with this woman at this point. I was already annoyed with their business before this happened because of their attitudes each time I had dealt with someone. I also felt that they hadn't let our dogs outside all day while I trusted them in their care, because when she brought them out to me they started peeing everywhere in the lobby. Van Gogh who is very particular where he poops and will take 15 minutes to pick the perfect grass, pooped on the side walk the second I opened the business door. One of the two girls who groomed Khaleesi called me. She took zero accountability and completely lacked any empathy. Both woman tried to blame Khaleesi's eyes being swollen and blood shot on her being stressed and not tolerating the table. They explained she barked all day. They essentially tried to twist it as if Khaleesi was uncooperative and aggressive, insinuating that she did this to herself. I brought Khali to the vet and the vet agrees with us that the excuses the groomers provided would not cause this. The only thing the vet believes that would cause this is if a leash was held too tightly for a long period of time, caused by strangulation. Luckily her retinas and corneas are not damaged and we have a scheduled vet appointment to check on any possible trachea damage.

On day of appointment, sidewalk in front of and to the side of the business had a lot of dog poop and garbage. Waiting room seemed clean and spacious. A young girl shampooed my pup, then put her in a kennel with a fan blowing on her. Hair was flying everywhere. My pup was barking nonstop and at first the owner said I could not go to her because of COVID. I asked for my dog because I was going to leave when she relented and said I could go back there. I was there for 2 1/2 hours! The cut my cocker spaniel got was choppy and uneven on her paws. Her ears were uneven. The hair on her legs was not touched. I could have done a better job. Would not recommend this business to anyone. Do not take your fur baby to Olivia!

Bill told me just how to fix the PH, and when my poor little honey gourami (named Harold) lost most of his tail to a bacterial infection he got because of the stress he was under, he gave us great advice on how to treat him to save him from that, too. Now Harold, toughest fish I've ever known, is darting around his tank happily, surviving against all odds because of Bill's guidance! The tanks don't look the greatest, but I didn't see a single sick fish, including a lot of more delicate breeds. That's the important part- everybody looked healthy.

They did a wonderful job with socializing her and starting her off on training. The facility itself is beautiful. It's very clean and well staffed.
