The best way to help you understand our family's experience with the culture of this church is to recommend that you read The 48 Laws of Power (summary version) by Robert Greene. This is not a Christian book, but Christians who read it will become more adept at recognizing deceptive behaviors and the strategies people use to disguise them. Here are a few of the laws we observed at this church: LAW 3 - CONCEAL YOUR INTENTIONS LAW 11 - LEARN TO KEEP PEOPLE DEPENDENT ON YOU LAW 27 - PLAY ON PEOPLE'S NEED TO BELIEVE TO CREATE A CULTLIKE FOLLOWING The façade was so convincing...for a time. Deceit may fool humans, but it will never fool God. The church discredits those who catch on to the reality. Not everyone intentionally participates in this culture. There are very kind, committed members but they appear to follow blindly.

Located in a safe area of Lenexa and operating out of a refurbished strip mall, Nexus church has…read morethe Holy Spirit in spades! That's right, all are welcome in this house of God but I warn you, this church runs hot for the Lord! As for those who are timid about a new church, the people at Nexus are extremely kind and respectful while eager to welcome you. Walking in all people are welcomed by one of the many ushers. If you have kids, there's a person who'll direct you to a location to sign in via many security measures, ensuring your child is safe and only you can pick them up after the service. I used this service many times when my youngest daughter was going there and I had no issues while she loved it. Next up the lobby has lots of literature about who the church is and their core beliefs. Also there's a coffee station that also has morning delicacies like donuts! Further back is the main auditorium, which I'll address later. The church also has many small groups that meet at other times. Groups like men & women's groups, couples, kids, high school and on down the line. The effort is made to ensure people can always have someone to talk to in this crazy life we're living. I loved the mens group which met once a month b/c they had great breakfast foods brought in. Moreover, this church has a lot of events to partake in or volunteer whenever they arise. If you want, you'll make lifelong friends here. The auditorium is spacious and can get raucous for the lord when the spirit is driving the service. I recall my very first service didn't go 1 hour long, but 3 hours! I've lived all over the nation and Nexus has that down home, small fever pitched feel but one where everyone feels welcome. The band is very good and will always have some sort of song that touches the heartstrings. The screens are very large making the music easy to read and sing along too. Don't worry about singing offkey - you'll fit in with people like me! As for Evangelist Mark Purkey, he's extremely intelligent but won't sugar coat a message. In fact he'll make you look at things in a much, much different light. I rather liked the one series we did where he went through every verse of Revelation so we all gained a better understanding. My final thoughts is God is using Pastor Purkey for great things. When God selects his prophet, I suggest giving it a chance. Overall, Nexus is a life changing church and the facility itself has everything an individual or family needs for their spiritual journey. Moreover, the people are nice, the message is Devine and the coffee is hot. If you come, there will be instances where you forget about time and the holy spirit fills you up. Welcome to Nexus, you are home and God shows up.

The attendance is large enough that you can feel comfortable slipping in and out without being the center of attention but small enough to get to know others that attend. Sermons are heavy with biblical teaching. Theology is accurate to the best of orthodox Christianity with large amounts of freedom with non-essentials, including Calvinism. Worship style varies from hymns to contemporary but always good about putting the focus on the Lord. Children's ministry is active and well kept. Youth ministry has separate buildings yet lack in large numbers (around 15-20 on Sunday).

It is a multi-generational congregation that feels more like a family than a church that is a rock concert. The building can be a little confusing to navigate as there are multiple entrances. There is Sunday school for kids, nursery for little ones and a great youth program for middle and high school students that both my kids enjoy.

This is a right unity, a right fellowship, which grows out of bold and clear proclamation of the Gospel. For that reason, this kind of unity and fellowship is a rarity. Many claim unity, many claim fellowship, but scarcely is it a unity grounded in the divine truths of God's revelation. My family and I, in the providence of God, have truly found a gem here at Victory Baptist Church. It is my prayerful desire that you would come worship with us on a Sunday, at either the 11am or 1pm service--experience the preaching of the Word of God, the singing of hymns and psalms, and the warm fellowship of God's people. Feel free also to join us during a Wednesday hymn sing at 7pm, with our prayer meeting beginning at 7:30pm. More details can be found here: www.victorybaptistkc.org.
