We are now being hit with a 'consulting' fee that was not disclosed and what should be $600 worth of tax work is now billing at over $1,000. Accountant said "I don't know" and "I'm not sure" so many times. Maybe if she knew what she was doing it wouldn't have taken so long. If you use them make sure you get ALL the trumped up fees fully disclosed BEFORE giving them your documents.

We went in the first weekend in March, and he had a month and a half to do our taxes. Needless to say everytime I called him he was like "make it quick I'm busy" and just flat out rude. It is YOUR job as a tax guy if a client has a question, you should make time and not be rude. He also degraded me and my husband and called us incompetent in keeping up our paperwork, which is not true in the slightest way. I usually don't give a bad review unless I'm disappointed. We will NOT be going back to Mike or Ketel Thorstenson, and I recommend going to somebody besides Mike Finnegan if you need your taxes done, unless you like sending taxes in the day they are due and being treated like a worthless customer. Needless to say, we filed a complaint with the company! Not to mention when we got our bill just for getting our taxes prepared we were shocked, what a rip off! I took my paperwork to Heather April 1,2024 and she assured me that my federal taxes would be done…read moreby the April 15 deadline...which did not happen. I was told when I called on April 12 not to worry she was going to work all weekend and would call me. When I called back on April 15 I was told not to worry...she filed an extension. Each time in the months that followed when I would call inquiring about my taxes I was told ..." they are just waiting to reviewed and they will call you". I would call every couple weeks and bet the same response. I finally physically went to the office on October 11 (the extension deadline is October 15th!!) and was told "they are just waiting to be reviewed". I responded with the comment that I wanted all my documents...she had 6 1/2 months to do the tax preparation!!! I have never dealt with such an unprofessional irresponsible business before and would never recommend them. The least they could have done was communicate with me and if they were too busy they could have been honest enough to tell me so I could have gone somewhere else!!

Both of these errors have cost me tens thousands of dollars in tax penalties and loss of retirement savings. Desmet and Biggs accountants, specifically Megan Kinder and Keith Chaffin, did nothing to remedy this. I have since switched accountants to someone who is more honest, reliable, and knowledgable than the accountants at Desmet and Biggs.
