It's not a huge park, but big enough for a good run, about 3-4 laps per mile. I was pleased to discover the dirt path lining the park alongside the cement trail, an option I much prefer, better on my legs. In addition there are exercise stations, a large grassy field, a variety of trees, a tennis court, unique playground structures, swings for various ages (including a tire swing), picnic tables, pergolas, and just a clean and laid-back setting. No restrooms, but ample street parking available all around. FYI, google maps strangely says it closes at 5pm, but it's a public park with open access, and there were plenty of visitors of all ages on a Friday evening in June. read more

Nice park with plenty of play areas to have your kids run around on. There is also some exercise equipment within the area of the park that can be used. It's those type of equipment that doesn't have any resistance on them when in operation. It just helps the body move around. For the most part, a good portion of the park is under shade, though I wish there was shade for the playground itself. I'm sure during the summer time the playground gets really hot by the touch. There are benches around facing the playground. This park seems clean and well kept. I didn't see any trash or graffiti on the playground. The only issue I have is that there was no bathrooms provided. read more

Beautiful park with an abundance of play areas and exercise equipment to take advantage of. With this park being smacked right in the middle of residential areas, parking can be tough since you will be sharing street parking. There is no designated private lot specifically for Townsend Park. Townsend is pretty big but feels very small due to the number of people visiting. Finding your own private area is limited to setting up a blanket on the grass. While a majority of the visitors abide by social distancing and wearing face masks, there was a good number of people who did not. There is no shortage of tables and benches to take a load off and the abundance of shade scattered throughout this area is a nice added touch. For those who are interested, tennis courts sit on the opposite end of the park. 5 stars for such a diverse, clean, & welcoming environment. FYI: there are no restrooms, come prepared with lots of wipes and hand sanitizer. read more

It isn't the "prettiest" park but it's quite nice! it has a BIG open grass area for people to play, run around, picnic, but the grass isn't really nice. The playground area has plenty of options for different kids at all ages. There are three structures for different age group. This park does have swings and monkey bars so those are a nice addition. There are benches and tables for people to sit and eat as well.Adjacent to the park there are exercising equipment for adults to use. There is also a tennis court too (wish there are more though) Overall it is a nice neighborhood park! read more

This place gets 5 stars because usually you can find tables w/o having to come there bright early in the morning to grab them.. multiple playgrounds w/in yards of each other and there is a water spray fountain thingy that is very useful in the hot summer weather.. Gorgeous tree lined neighborhood park. There is space for every member of the family. We went in the morning and there were older folks doing some tai chi and others out for a jog or walk. I don't recall if there was exercise apparatus around various locations around the park but it was hilarious to watch a man use one of the kids' playgrounds for some arm work. He gets an "A" for creativity though. There are also different age appropriate playgrounds for kids of all ages. Just beware of cardio junkies. A stone's throw away are tennis courts. Also love how they put a tree in the center of the park on a raised platform. Definitely had a town square feel where everyone gathers. Definitely returning next time we are in town. read more

Clean. Good size. Not ghetto! Next to a golf course (San Jose Municipal). Tennis courts. Workout stretch type stations. Playground for kids. Large long grass area. Shade from trees lining the sides. Concrete sidewalk and sand dirt trail, which is nice so you can choose to run around the park either on the concrete, dirt, or grass. Lots people walk around this park and tai chi groups every morning. A lot of regulars. Seems to be a good amount of people walking in the morning and again after dinnertime. Quite a few dogs. If you have a dog stay clear from the wholly German Shepherd...I've seen him lunge and bark at other dogs where the owner has a hard time holding him back...they might want to invest in a pincher collar... Parking along the sidewalks. I see people drive to the park just to walk around. Took off a star because I wish they had more water fountains that work and more trash cans. Valentine's Day was beautiful. Skies were clear and blue. Sun was shining even though it was a bit windy we wanted to take the kids to the park for a picnic. We drove around and ended up at Townsend. Our first time going and was glad we did. The park is HUGE, equipped with 2 playgrounds and swings. Plenty of benches and areas to sit. It's clean as well. Only thing - no restrooms so make sure your kids go before the park and don't drink too much liquids :) read more

A neighborhood park that has seemingly stood the test of time. There are some vestiges of the 90s around the park with signage for outdoor gym equipment and exercises scattered throughout the perimeter of the park. Within it are two pretty modern looking children's jungle gyms. One is little shorter in stature and designed with less opportunities for falls. This one is recommended for children ages 2 - 5. This one also has cutesy animal springs and a little landscape area that kids can explore. I think it may have at one point spouted water since there's a button that you can press but was jammed when we tried to see what it did. On the other side of the park is a play area for bigger children that are more apt for climbing with the recommended age range being from 5 -12. This park isn't just for kids though.There are benches for caretakers to sit and enjoy the shade under the trees while being able to keep an eye on the kids.There are also some stone tables where you could have a little picnic. Around and through the park there are paved paths if you want to do a few laps. If you follow the outside path, this will take you all the way around the golf course which would probably take about hour. read more

This park is located in a nice neighborhood, flanked by nice homes and huge trees. It's VERY kid friendly with multiple play areas for children, nice cool breeze and not crowded. I'd definitely feel safe to come back to do a few laps here since there's no shady people or boisterous music. Also dog friendly, but they have to be leashed. Overall, I can tell the surrounding neighborhood respect this park, as it's not gated, however it's clean and well maintained. There's a golf area, spot for tennis, plenty of street parking. Me and my kids love this park. It has a play ground for littler kids and one for bigger kids. Pull up bars also lil how to do exorcises all around the park. There is also a tennis court. Only down side is there are no restrooms. I don't mind at all cause I live across the street. read more

I used to go here a lot as it was a consistent place to have picnics with my old high school Filipino Club. The feeling you get in this park is simply calming. There's a huge area of grass, a nice little flower bed in the middle where you can make small speeches (probably a good place to propose, if you ask me), a long and little circular walkway where you can load tables on, a nice path to run in, and its very own tennis courts. This park has a lot of things with plenty of extras, like a mist machine in the playground, but it suffers from one thing--a lack of basketball courts. Seriously, I may not be good, but basketball is one of my favorite activities to pass the time. Then again, I'd rather toss the pigskin around anyway. I've had a lot of (mostly good) emotional times in this park, and there's nothing remotely dangerous about this place at all since it's surrounded by apartments and neighborhoods in the Sierra/Lundy area--these places aren't considered "ghetto." read more

Townsend Park caters all kinds of audiences: from the runners, to the tai-chi fans, to the moms/dads with their little ones, to grandmas chatting while walking, occasional bicyclists like me...it is just great! I discovered this nice grassy, picnic worthy park 4 months ago when I started dating my boyfriend who lives very close. It is a very pleasant park to see the wonderful sunsets (for some reason, they are always pretty from the area next to the golf course) and to walk and chat. Mostly Asian people live in the area, looks like, you don't see too much cultural mix in there. Very nice park, clean and safe. read more

I've lived here my whole life. I saw the major transformation when I was a kid, and I didn't like it at first, but since the review is current, I'll review it at its current state. The park is always clean, quiet, and active. Back then when I was a kid, it was mostly Chinese people either doing tai-chi or watching their children play on the playground (like me). As years passed on, the regulars started becoming much more diverse. A lot of runners come here to work out, friends come to play volleyball on the grass, families come for the playground, and friends come to play tennis. There are also a lot of big groups that come here to celebrate birthdays since there are plenty of tables outside the playground! I've seen couples spend time together with picnics on the grass. The playground itself used to be all sand, but for some reason they remodeled the entire thing to be all tanbark. Not sure why they did that, since before I could actually make sandcastles when I was younger... Nothing beats sandcastles! The structures are great though. Their best installment was easily the mist umbrella - great for hot summer days! Runners - This is definitely a runner-friendly park with a sand trail going around the entire park (my dad used this to start training for his marathons), or you can choose to run on the sidewalk. You can even run on the grass if you'd like, but no one really does that. Every hundred feet or so there are workout stations for you to do push-ups, pull-ups, stretches, crunches, sit-ups, balance exercises, and then some more. There are also some water fountains near the tennis court and near the playground in case you're getting tired, plus some benches. There's plenty of shade for you to cool down in, too! All in all, I don't think anyone has a reason to avoid coming to this park. It fits everyone's needs and is literally in the middle of the community. 5/5! read more

I came here for a nice jog since I wasnt really feeling a trail and I wanted to go to the park afterwards. If you run the circumference of the park, it is about 1/3 of a mile so three laps, and you got yourself a mile. You will see other joggers in this quaint area or little kids playing around on the playground or walking their dogs. There is street parking and I havent had any trouble finding it after work. What I like about this place is that there are two tennis courts. The other courts around that area are always packed because people go their specifically to play. Since this is a park, the courts are just an extra bonus and it has not been used recently. So this is my secret spot for tennis courts. The only thing that sucks is that there is no lighting so once the sunsets, no more tennis for you. It gets crowded on the weekend mornings so it will be tough to get a court. Overall, this park is great if you want to play on the playground, sit on the grass and have a picnic, play tennis or job. There is a golf course nearby that is connected but I am not sure if it is associated with the park. **TIPS** 1) Great place for running, swings, and tennis :) 2) Enjoy! read more

Then all of a sudden "Hello, What's your name?" or "How are you?" You take off your headphones and look perplex and was like "Huh?" Yeah that happen to me twice here. Some kids (teenagers) try to pick me up, two days in a row on my walk. Don't they understand its "Me" time for me to relax, think, and just let the stress melt away. Plus "Honey I am way to old for you" I sometimes wonder if there is a sign on my forehead that says "Please come talk to me" I live right across the street from this park. This is where I usually go for my walks since there is always people around. Kids are always playing in the playground, people walking there dogs, or others are running and walking. Plus there is a huge grassy area to play volleyball or just lay out and enjoy some sun. Its a nice park to walk around and just people watch. read more

This park is great for kids and adults. We brought our 1 yr old and though she isn't walking yet, she enjoys us taking her on the slides. There are 3 playground areas - each one bigger and more challenging than the next. A nice, quiet neighborhood park. Surrounded by mostly cookie-cutter 2-story, condos and apartments, a spacious, grassy park with a kids playground on the tip near the Lundy entrance. Has a few BBQ pits, volleyball and 2 tennis courts, but can get crowded on weekends with kids and picnic'ers, and some older kids ride their bikes and skateboards liking to jump off the raised cement "seating" area in the middle, which is annoying and kinda dangerous as sometimes the skateboards can slip and go flying. Otherwise and overall a good park to play catch football, toss the frisbee, jog, or take a long walk, has a long sidewalk which borders the perimeter of the park, the grounds are pretty well kept, no parking lot, so a chance to get some of that South Bay parallel parking practice in. read more

Complete Nostalgia! For those of us who grew up in the area: remember when the playground was blue and yellow-painted metal, wood and actually had sand? The thing used to be massive, towering nearly 15-20 ft high. Now it's all plastic and rubber. I'm mean I'm all for child safety but I think kids now-a-days are way too pampered. Otherwise, the rest of the park hasn't evolved much. It's still a nice and safe place to go for a jog, walk the dog, picnic, take the kids, play some sports or simply hang out with your friends. The place is surrounded by your typical suburban condo's, apts, and houses and you get the feel that those who frequent the park have an inherent appreciation for it. It's a clean, well maintained piece of land. Personally (and I may be biased b/c I live so close) but I prefer that it doesn't have a bathroom. Frankly, not having a bathroom prevents loitering and other "visitors" from interrupting the ambiance. So many memories in this place! Visit it! Just please, pick up after yourself, your kids and your dog and leave it as just as or better than when you found it. Thanks! read more

What a great place for an evening stroll! Ample street parking, paved path through the park and great play area for kids. I have a 6 month old baby so we basically take the stroller and take few rounds. There are 2 tennis courts (Oh! I miss tennis) and enough exercise setups for push-ups, pulls up, etc (Oh! I so don't miss exercising). During summer nights, there are free showings of movies - BIG PLUS if you have kids. I may be biased since I've lived right across the street for most of my life, but what I love about this place is the wide open grass area. Yes, spent many a stressed out time coming here to sit and meditate and get away from the house. Now you'll see me out there walking my dog. Pure suburban charm of a park ideal for volleyball and two tennis courts at the end. You'll have to go for a drive if you need a restroom, but for those of us who live near by, it's no big deal. The playground is catered mostly towards younger tots, but whose to say us older kids can't play there after dark (believe me its happened). A lot cleaner than Flickinger, that's for sure. read more

I love this park. I live across the street from it and cherish it greatly. I bring my dog here for his morning walks and appreciate all the other people that are regulars at the park. Everyone is very nice, smiles, says Hello and if your dogs are in the mood they can play on all the beautful green grass. With that said here is my problem...People use this park for parties on the weekend and dont bother cleaning up after themselves about 50% of the time. With the state of the economy and the lack of services, it is up to us to keep our parks clean and safe for everyone to use. If you are going to have a party there then bring enough trash bags to clean up and if the garbages are full then please take the trash with you. I feel bad for the guys that come on mondays (usually) and have to clean up after a bunch of lazy people. Yesterday was 4th of july there were fireworks going off all night and a majority from the park. I was absolutely disgusted by the way the park was left when I walked my dog this morning. The amount of trash on the lawns and in the streets at the playgrounds was appalling. Who does that??? Respect the park and the people that patron it! I was ready to go grab some of my trash bags and clean it but soon realized there was just way to much for myself to handle and I would have no where to put the trash. It never gets over full, but usually has a lot of nice people letting their kids play, going on an evening walk, or playing volleyball in the open grass section. The park will also tend to stay busy till very late lending to a safe atmosphere, there are people taking walks here as late as 11pm. This park was my go to spot back in the day. Use to play Tennis here during my high school years when I was a Tennis player. Practiced a lot with the morning group that plays here on the weekends. If your a Tennis Player you should definitely check this spot out. Tennis Courts: -Packed during the Weekends. So be sure to be sure to introduce yourself if your a new coming. The players out here are pretty welcoming so don't be shy and try to have fun. It's better to be an intermediate player since everyone that plays here are above beginners lvl, but sometimes they will let you play in a set or two. Restrooms: As a warning to you exercisers, dog walkers,tennis players and so forth. There are no restrooms located here. So the only option is picking a tree, but I don't think passing people would enjoy that. But as they say if you got to go you got to go. Playgrounds: - Great place for young kids and Young teens to hangout and play. Safe place for kids to roam around. History: - I grew up here in this neighborhood. My parents and I lived in Townsend Apartments for a number of years during my childhood years. There's been a lot of construction work, additional housing around the neighborhood. And so forth. the girlfriend and i jog here almost everyday. takes us 0.6 miles to get there, 2 miles to do 3 laps around the park, and another 0.6 miles to go back home. not bad! and our dog loves this spot lot of dog walkers and joggers on weekdays from 4pm to sundown. lot of soccer players and volleyball players on saturdays. sundays are the most empty. tennis courts are always occupied. no frills, no bathrooms, no bbq pits. just a small, simple, clean, and friendly park. read more

Townsend park was such a fun little park to venture to. My brothers loved playing baseball and soccer on the lawn and they had a blast! It's surrounded by apartments and condos and is a pretty safe place to hangout at. The only downside was the grass was super patchy and uneven which was a bummer for sure but the playground looked nice and fun and the trees surrounding the park and sidewalks were so pretty! The park is ultra clean and very spacious. It is surrounded by homes which makes parking a little difficult to obtain. There is a huge playground and tennis courts. The tennis courts fill up between 5-7 pm. There is a track to walk on and exercise equipment. They have a few benches with tables and I believe they have grills. The park gets crowded so if you are looking for a romantic picnic in a more private setting then this park is not for you. Overall it's a nice family park. read more

Its a great place for a jog,take the kids for a fun day at the park,tennis or just some good body strength workouts. The atmosphere is great! Everyone is friendly . You can leave your stuff around and not worry about it being missing. The only thing that keeps me away from giving it all 5 stars is the dog crap on the grass. Its a great place to walk your dog but the owners let their dogs crap all over the grass! And you would think its just in one area but its allllll over the place and the grass area is huge!! My grandson had a family birthday picnic party today at this park. My son and daughter in law moved in this neighborhood and they love the new place and area. So they planned this little birthday picnic not thinking to research first what kind of park this is. We love to barbeque and grill..(did not happen ..no grill) so we brought cooked food and bought pizza...the kids love it. After playing and running around and drinking water and juice..the kiddies need a bathroom..(no bathrooms). We had to drive the kids and their moms and dads to our son's house (about 4 blocks...kids cant hold it that long). So Yes it's a wonderful park for kids and adults to exercise and play just don't drink a lot of liquid and make sure your kids know how to hold their bathroom break. Lesson learned...plan ahead and research online what kind of park your are going to have your child's birthday picnic... Oh I'm sure my grandchildren will come back and play in this park again like I said they moved in the area...but NOT AGAIN FOR A PICNIC.. read more
