My rating is 3.5 stars. I'm rounding down.
I used my Marriot Bonvoy points to book a couple of nights at this TownePlace Suites in Oakville. I stayed here because it would be closer to get to the office (25 minutes) and I was supposed to meet up with a friend for dinner who lives in Oakville.
Well, my manager took the day that I didn't need to go into the office. I decided to stay put and work from my room. My friend got sick, so our dinner plans got cancelled.
Everything worked out, though. I enjoyed staying here and being a tourist around the city.
I checked in on a Tuesday night, just before 9 pm. I had no problem backing into a spot fairly close to the main entrance. The doors automatically open, which was great with my rolling in my luggage, backpack, and dinner.
I had the sweetest woman greet me at the front desk. She was thorough and helpful. I presented my ID and credit card for incidentals ($40). I got two room keys. She thought that I had requested a mobile key. I have a love-hate relationship with technology. If your phone dies, you can't use your mobile key. I'd rather have physical plastic ones.
She also went to the snacks section to get me two complimentary bottles of water. I had left my drink caddy containing three drinks on the check-in counter. She was great letting me know. I basically hauled five drinks up to the sixth floor. Yes, I have no hydration issues.
There are two elevators. The one on the left that opened for me was malfunctioning. It allowed two seconds before the doors shut prematurely. It was odd. My luggage got caught between the doors, but it was great that it didn't shut on me and my drinks. I had to press the close button to make the doors shut completely and the elevator go up to the sixth floor.
It's not the cleanest hotel. Plastic remnants from tags on newly purchased clothes greeted me on the floor when I badged in. A fly also welcomed me, which was my house guest for two nights.
This place upgraded me to a suite, which I appreciated. I didn't ask for it. My guess is that it was a courtesy gesture for being a platinum elite member. It was also pretty quiet at this hotel. I never saw a guest on my floor. One across from me had ordered a pizza and a drink from Dominoes. The plastic tag on the carpet was there for my entire stay.
You get complimentary breakfast from 6:30 am till 9 am on weekdays. It was okay, but I ended up doing delivery for breakfast and lunch. It was enjoyable having delivery folks leave food at my door. I rarely do delivery, so it felt fancy.
On one of the food apps, this place came up as Quality Hotel and Suites. No wonder it didn't have that look and feel that a TownePlace hotel typically has. I looked up old photos online of this hotel's past. Gone is the Tim Hortons in the lobby and the restaurant that used to be here.
There is a gym and pool on the first floor, past the elevators. There is also a laundry room that takes credit cards as payment only.
The bedroom was great. It had a TV, a huge closet, and a door. I could hear the traffic along highway 403, though. It's not a soundproof hotel, likely because it has been here for decades.
I spent a lot of time in the living room. I loved having the TV on as I worked. I don't do that at home. I also ate my meals there. I had all charging plugs nearby for my laptop and cell phone. The dining table became where all my purchases would sit.
The couch was comfy. I also liked the side table and the rolling one in front of me.
The kitchen was nice. The fridge was new. The fridge part was on top and the freezer below it. I used the fridge to chill my drinks and takeout. The sink had liquid dish soap next to it that I used.
The washroom was tiny. It reminded me of being in a tiny New York city apartment. The shower, however, was wonderful. The water pressure was perfect. The shower's floor had a slight downward slope, as the glass door wouldn't fully shut due to gravity. It was kind of brilliant, as the water seemed to drain effortlessly.
The lighting was great. I had no issues whatsoever.
I asked through the chat feature of Marriott's app if I could do a late checkout of 4 pm on my last day there. Without any hesitation, the staffer downstairs said that it was no problem. It was nice working up to this time and then checking out.
It was comfortable lodging here for a couple of nights. I wasn't far away from Oakville Place and eateries. It was also straightforward hitting the 403 to return home. There's also a Pioneer gas station across the parking lot.
Staff are so welcoming. It's a good place to stay, but it does need help with cleanliness. I hope that it improves and that I get a Marriott survey to share my thoughts.
