We checked in on Sunday to visit our daughter that goes to SIUE, this was located very close to campus. We dropped our bags off and spent the day in St. Lewis and arrive back later that evening and played a game with our daughter then about to have her leave and get ready for bed we noticed a bug crawling on the bed. We trapped it and put it on the table to figure out what type of bug it was. We took a lot of pictures and found that it was a cockroach nymph! We then started to look around the room, the bed, bathroom and then found several more in the kitchen. One has trapped itself in a glass and the other were crawling in a hole by the shelf. We packed our things, because we're not sleeping with bugs in our room (#218) I spoke with Carmen at the front desk and she didn't look surprised when I told her we had baby cockroaches in our room. All she said was the hotel is completely booked and she didn't have another room for us. I said I would like a refund and she said the Phillip the manager would be in tomorrow at 3pm and I could call him. All the hotels in the area were booked and we had to drive to Alton for another room. I sent an email to Phillip and didn't hear anything back until almost 7pm and by email he was only going to give me a 30% discount. I then called and spoke with Phillip, ask why I couldn't have my full refund and he said because we checked out after midnight that we stayed and he spoke with the bug guy and his house keeping service and they said oh, it's not an infestation. I'm sorry, but it shouldn't matter when we discovered the roach, just that this hotel has them and are unwilling to give you a refund because they need to still make some money. This is not good business! I have also started a claim with Marriott to investigate so that I can receive my full refund, but I have to wait 72 hours. I will include the pictures we took, beware of this hotel!

Derrick the manager will make the stay one of your best ones. Place is spotless but his service and availability are the key to this hotel.

Fire manager! Fire cleaning crew and front desk personnel. I wish I could give zero stars…read more Worse experience at a hotel ever. My wife and I checked in on 01/30/26. When we were going to bed I pulled the blanket and sheets back to find blood stains on the sheet soaked down to the mattress pad. (Nasty and a health issue). I called front desk where we were brought new bedding. When we unfolded we found another stain on a sheet. I called again and front desk brought us more bedding. He offered a new room but we already unpacked amd were in pajamas. I had to make 2 more calls regarding people on 3rd floor stomping, running and slamming doors which never got resolved. It stopped around midnight and started the next morning around 4 a.m. I got up the next morning to shower and found that 2 of the 3 towels appeared to have blood on them. Also found something red on the carpet with toe prints. My wife and I went down to eat breakfast on 01/31/26. After eating we approached the dayshift clerk a female. We explained our issues with her. She stated she would get us a refund. She stated she would send it to the manager. I told her my wife wanted to shower but since two of them had what looked like blood on them we were out of towels. She went in the back and brought towels to us. I spoke with Experian and an employee by the name of Robert Heinlein. His story and Experians story were different. Experian stated I was being denied a refund with Robert stating he still needed to talk to the manager and that he will be back Wednesday. On 02/04/26 I had to call the manager Jack Leonard. I explained the situation and he didn't seem to care. I told him how nasty it was to have blood on the sheets and on the towels. Jack told me his employee never offered the refund which she did. Jack believed her making me feel like he was calling me a liar. I told him his employee was lying. Jack got upset I was saying that about his employee. I told him when someone lies they are a liar. Jack told me he wasn't doing anything for us because they offered another room. I had to explain to him we wouldn't have needed anything if his cleaning crew weren't putting blood stained sheets on a bed. Jack was less than helpful and just argued with me. The argument got heated and I told him his employee lied and he wasn't much of a manager for this. Jack never apologized for this and made it out it was our fault and not the hotels. I told him review their cameras when we spoke with the employee in question. We will never visit this hotel again and for everyone I would stay away from them. You don't treat customers like this and it's their fault. Just to be clear we never asked for a refund it was offered to us now they are renigging on it. I also filed a complaint with corporate and the BBB will be next.

However, it has reasonably modern decor, well maintained and clean. The host team is very friendly and professional. The lobby was added on to the older facility. It is wide open and welcoming. Just want you want out of a value stay. They only had one USB port near the night stand. The breakfast was pretty much like everyone else's. Scrambled eggs, sausage patties, yogurt, bagels, oatmeal, fruits and pre-packaged sweets. No salsa but some Texas Pete's hot sauce if that is important to you. Coffee and juices a plenty.

You might…read morepass this place up when you first get off the highway but there is a second Road and it is absolutely bumpy just to enter if you missed the first exit. There was plentiful parking as well since there wasn't a lot of people here. Checking it was an easy process and they had items and their food pantry but their selection was very minimal and Bare Bones and if there was something that you liked it was absolutely expensive. The hotel looks like it went under a remodel recently and it looks great in the lobby and in the hallways but once you're in the room it might be a different story. The shower was poorly put together with a sliding doors one of the doors was stuck the entire time in the shower all the other one nearly fell off the track. It felt like they rushed the remodel. Beds and amenities here are pretty nice. I realize that there was a loud breathing sound and I was trying to figure out where it was coming from. At first it sounds like Darth Vader was around the corner but actually this room has a very loud mini fridge. I had a nice nap so I decided to go downstairs to have some breakfast . It looks like the person that was supposed to make breakfast didn't show up so breakfast was being rushed 30 minutes late . They had some of my favorite selection like the red skin potatoes but the sausage that was made was terrible! Nearly the entire batch was burnt and unedible. Overall, it was not my best stay here.

The hotel's location is a little odd, since you have to take a side road to get in, but the surrounding area felt safe. Check-in was fine, but the wheels on antique looking luggage trolleys didn't work. When we got to our room around 8 pm,, I checked to make sure the shower products were filled, since they often aren't. Sure enough, the shampoo and hair conditioner were there, but also a bottle of body lotion placed inside the shower instead of shower gel which I'm guessing was an honest mistake. The bathroom floor was sticky--not sure if it was from cleaning products or something else, but it definitely didn't feel clean. There was also some musky smell; maybe the room was just dated and old. The TV worked, but the Netflix button on the remote didn't, and it seemed like there were no streaming options, which was disappointing since most Hamptons we've stayed at have already been upgraded with those features. Breakfast was the typical Hampton Inn setup--decent but nothing memorable. Overall, it was an okay stay. The location and staff were fine, but housekeeping really needs to pay attention. Cleanliness is such a big part of a good hotel experience, and that's where this property fell short.

This place is within walking distance of many great Alton eateries and shops. Also only a 16 minute drive to Grafton or Edwardsville for for entertainment. One drawback is the parking. No dedicated lot so it's only street parking. There are dedicated spaces out front and side parking is available too. We cannot wait to come back and utilize this space again! *Wasn't able to picture of all the rooms just mine*

I thought being on the first floor by the stairwell was going to be strategically ok, but whoever was situated above us was pretty awful. We could hear their every move upstairs and these people made several trips to the side exit (we hypothesized it was because you couldn't smoke in the rooms). Anyways, they did this through the entire night and kept us up constantly. We told the night manager but it didn't get any better. Side note: the bathroom of our room had a noticeable water leak. AND the beds were SUPER UNCOMFORTABLE! Never stayed in a hotel where they were that bad. It took me about 4 days since to fully recover from how stiff the beds were. The main elevator didn't work and the side door to the outside is missing a push handle. I don't wish this kind of experience on any other traveler I swear!

The Bad: 1) There was hardly ever anyone at the front desk. This happened to me on two nights. When I called the front desk, they acted like I was the only one with the problem and said they could not do anything until the morning. However, I noticed that they had a huge new uninstalled water heater sitting in the lobby for 5 days (which means they knew about the hot water issue). 2) the breakfast is really bad. There's no fruits whatsoever.
