The Gotham Lofts are wonderful executive apartments catering to the film industry. They have been…read morerecently renovated and even updated since last year when they were called the Jelly Roll Suites. I have a film exec client who rents a two bedroom, and it's what you would expect of a modernly appointed apartment that stays true to its historic charm. The spaces are clean, ceilings are high and the touch of industrial design makes it a nice place visually. The keypad security is nice, and there is decent off street parking when there isn't an event at Generations Hall.

The Good: Nice…read morelayouts. Great price for an all inclusive, furnished space. Can't beat the location. It's spotlessly clean (I didn't see one roach while I was there and I was on the ground floor) Adam and the staff were fantastic. The kitchens have all new, on-trend grey cabinetry and quartz countertops. The appliances are new. The bathrooms are equipped with Delta H20Kinetic showerheads which deliver amazing water pressure. There's a washer dryer in each unit and weekly cleaning service is included. If something breaks or is not working correctly, Adam will make sure it's taken care of immediately. There's a garage right across the street where you can rent space for $150 a month. There's tons of fantastic dining a stone's throw from your front door. Cochon or Butcher anyone? Also, while I'm on the subject, try Tommy G's pizzeria across the road at the bottom of the Fulton Street Garage. FANTASTIC Italian food, wings, pizza and desserts. The Bad: When you're renting a 2 bedroom apartment, you would think that the 2nd bedroom would actually have a bed. Nope, there was a pull out sofa in there, a nightstand and that's it. If you're looking for a 2 bedroom, chances are you're not looking for a 2nd room with another couch that's 10 feet away from your living room couch. I wound up having to purchase a bed and a bed frame for the 2nd bed room. Adam was nice enough to move the couch out of there for me. I also needed to move one of the nightstands out of the master bedroom to provide a bit of clothing storage space for the 2nd bedroom and I purchased an additional side table to replace the nightstand that I moved. When you rent a fully furnished, all inclusive unit, you also expect to have a full set of dishes, pots, pans, silverware, etc. We had 1 pan. 2 pots without lids, a total of 1 fork, 2 spoons and 1 knife. We had dinnerware and glassware service for 4 (which is adequate for a 1 bedroom unit, but not a 2 bedroom unit). I spent another couple of hundred to buy extra silverware, a full set of pots and pans, an extra set of dishes and glassware, etc. Also, there wasn't an ironing board or iron, which surprised me since you would get that when renting a hotel room. Now, here's the crazy part. I had 2 friends who were also renting at the Gotham Lofts when I was there. One had a full set of pots and pans and the other had an ironing board and iron. Amenities should be uniform between all the units. If you wind up renting there and your place is totally decked out with everything and you don't need to start buying items to supplement what you're missing, it's because the previous tenant bought what was missing and left it behind when they moved out. I know that I wound up leaving a bunch of stuff behind when I left. It's a real ghetto business model, IMO. IMPORTANT: Generations Hall is a very popular venue that's right next door. If crowds and noise on weekends is going to be a problem, this place is not for you. I was surprised that I didn't really mind the chaos. It was actually kind of fun and nobody got ugly or confrontational while I was there. Overall, I would recommend the Gotham Lofts. Just be ready to shell out an additional $300-$1000 to augment your space into something that is actually functional. And even with the extra layout of cash, it's still a bargain.

Pros: The amenities were great and accessible 24/7, the complex was secure. The location is in a relatively good area close to Magazine, thé CBD, and the quarter. Most of the greater New Orleans was a 15-20 min drive in all directions. Easy to get on the interstate. Complex is decorated nicely and the apartments are very nice and new! Cons: The front office was not that responsive with issues outside of maintenance. I also had an issue where they said my deposit would be x amount and the amount I paid was $300 higher. The front desk said it was due to my credit score but wouldn't let me see what it was (I never saw this employee ever again after this day, though). I ended up having a spider/cockroach issue in my apartment, which they were great about responding to. The homeless population in the area will steal bikes out in the front, and whenever the gate would break, would break into a car or two. Overall, I would totally rent again here if I moved back. It's a bit pricey, but was well worth what you paid for. The Pros made up for the cons every time.

I show up the next morning in time for my tour and the leasing office is not even open. No leasing agent is there. I called multiple times, texted, and emailed. No response. Even asked a resident, who told me the office should be open. I waited 20 min and still no one came in that time to open the office or respond, so I left. They called me later that afternoon and implied I missed my appointment. I explained I showed up on time and waited. They said they must've missed me while they were walking around the property. This office is not responsible or professional.

Cons: your neighbors, random homeless or drunk person who wonders in the bldg. Most of the time they just pass out in the foyer or business center but sometimes they'll bath in the hot tub. Brothers on the corner always has vagrants outside. Let's circle back to your neighbors. This place is dubbed by the locals as The Adult Dormatory for a good reason. It's full of college kids living on their parents good will and partying constantly. They are often drunk and stupid and very loud. Stumbling into your door, throwing parties, smoking pot or cigarettes or both which seeps into your apartment and your clothes. Management doesn't do much other than send these ppl constant warnings (or sometimes they don't even bother doing that). It's against the lease to smoke inside but nothing is ever done about it. You can not only smell your neighbors but hear them too as if you were in the room with them. Zero privacy. I can hear my neighbors entire phone conversations and if they person they are talking to is on the speaker, I can hear every word they say as well. I've lived my entire life in Apts and never came across one with no sound barrier BTW Apts. And living on the parade route gets old REAL quick. Place is too pricey for what you have to deal with.

Our apartment was very clean when we moved in and maintenance is prompt in filling our work orders. Danae was my agent, and she was very kind and responsive. We had some communication issues and my unit was not completely move in ready but was promised to have them fixed. The maintenance team always goes above and beyond for me, just be patient as it may take awhile to complete requests. There are no elevators and can be pretty nosy being by the river but otherwise a cool place to stay.
