Torn on this review…read more GOOD + Friendly, helpful staff + Clean + Decent pool area + Easy on/off to highway with a good number of things in the area, despite it being sort of in the middle of nowhere (Culver's, McDonald's, a couple bar/restaurants, a Mobil station, and a Shell station with a Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins) + Fridge/microwave in room NOT SO GOOD + Loud - we could hear everything our neighbors said through the adjoining doors + Outdated and basic amenities + "Hot breakfast" was 80% prepackaged items (Danishes, yogurt, etc.) with a small pan of eggs and sausage; the waffle batter was sour (past its prime, perhaps?) + Bargain basement bath products + Had to reconnect to WiFi/enter password every time phone went to lock screen + No privacy shade/window covering - we were on the first floor and had to keep the drapes closed at all times because anyone in the parking lot could look right in This is a decent hotel if you're just looking for a bed while passing through or are staying for business. We were gifted a room as part of a family Christmas celebration, and while we had fun swimming with the nieces and nephews, it wasn't exactly a luxurious escape. We got a copy of the bill under our door in the morning, and I feel bad that the gift-giver paid $90. This is more on par with a $50/60 per night level. We've stayed in some nice Hiltons/Hyatts with full breakfast bars, "spa" bath products, pillow menus, Kohler-catalog showers, and what have you for a little over $100, so for the price point I'd expect a lot more.

The Sunday omlette is a must if you're staying. The location is great for proximity to town, but the house is so nice you may not want to leave! I would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat, and recommend it to anyone staying in the area. It trounces a hotel any day.

We traveled with our dog, there is a $25 pet deposit for having a pet with you. Our stay was quiet. There is a restaraunt located in the hotel and they offer grab and go items and continental breakfast. I cannot comment on the breakfast because we decided to go to a local restaurant for breakfast. The mansion was built in 1856, making it the first mansion in Lake Geneva. The estate has been completely redone but charming details were kept. Along with a mansion where you can book a room, Maxwell also includes beautiful gardens, lounges, outdoor fireplaces, a heated pool, croquet and bocce ball. There is also a separate area in the back with motel rooms. Like I said, I was there for a lil' drink. There's a bar inside the mansion (Apothecary Bar) with all kinds of medical and druggist paraphernalia, with the space being a tribute to Dr. Philip Maxwell. But it's the speakeasy, which is accessible outside in the front of the house, that you'll want to visit. Ask for the password inside the mansion, and they will let you into a dark, below-ground bar. It's all decorated in prohibitionist flyers, and even the bartenders are dressed up in period costumes. It's a really cool and unique bar in Lake Geneva.

We ordered a flatbread pizza and a spinach artichoke dip as well as a couple of cocktails. They served us at a table where we sat on a couch in a room just across the hall and were quite comfortable. There are other rooms where you can go - not much seating in the actual apothecary bar.

The Hotel is decorated very nicely and was very clean. It also has an indoor pool for guests to enjoy. I had a very comfortable King Size bed in a very spacious room with a refrigerator and microwave inside the room. The bathroom was also very spacious and clean. The room provided Free Wi-Fi, AC, plenty of light and a large work area to complete by daily conference calls. They also provide a free breakfast buffet with pork and Turkey sausage, eggs, pancakes, waffles, cereal and milk and fresh fruit to name a few things. There was also an incident the day before the wedding where they did not want to give us our wedding night suite that was included with our room blocks (the rule is 15 rooms to be booked and a free suite the night of the wedding, and we had all 15 booked). Just general miscommunication that could've easily been solved, we always ended up speaking no with the manager to have things fixed which can be annoying.

They knew we had to leave for a wedding and after a huge snow storm they cleaned off our car- that was fantastic! The food was amazing and I would love to come back and walk the farm and apple orchard. They have a hot tub room, spa, bar and theater room. The inn is well appointed and would say it ranks as nice as a five star hotel. Thanks we had a great stay :-)
