Nice picnic spots and places to sit and admire the view. This is a popular park in Summer, especially in nice weather, so parking could be a challenge. If you're in the area, definitely worth a visit. Don't forget to leave your money in the box at the entrance of you don't have a Maine State Park pass so we can keep state parks like this open and maintained.

If anything, the fact that it was dusk and the rain was so gentle, kind of made the whole experience feel more visceral and intimate. The bridge itself is really beautiful with great views of the river on both sides. There's definitely enough movement so that you don't forget you're on a swinging bridge, but it didn't feel unsafe and even our little dog was fine walking back and forth across it. My husband and I hung out in the middle for a while, enjoying the views, cuddled in the cool wet air. It was actually pretty romantic. We probably spent about 15 or 20 minutes here and in that time multiple people crossed the bridge and at least five or six stopped to take photos in front of it, including a group of 4 that asked us to take their photo for them (pictured below) so this is a busy area even in the rain. But once you're here, you know why because it's a pretty cool experience. I definitely recommend a quick stop here if you can make the time.

While it may be controversial, I'm glad they moved the food trucks to the lower lot. It's less crowded when you arrive and less crowded near the food trucks - meaning only people getting food are in the area, vs people walking/running through with animals and kids that aren't going to the food trucks. It's also less noisy not being next to the generators. We love the food trucks there and will continue to enjoy them while also enjoying the peaceful hill. The kids in the family really enjoy the canons and the playgrounds. The times we have gone the playgrounds have been clean - thankfully no needles or trash anywhere to be seen.

The Androscoggin Riverwalk is a good size walk and is well lit for those who prefer to walk late at night, especially if you work all day. You can access it from several points including adjacent to TD Bank, at Great Falls Plaza area, across the street by Grittys and down by the two parks along Main Street. The start of the Riverwalk is within easy walking distance of the Hilton Garden and on the other side of the river is the Hampton Inn. If you feel adventurous you can head towards the falls and there is a trailer that leads to an observation deck that overlooks the falls themselves. On a day where the locks are open, you may get some over-spray, but the observation deck is where they launch the fireworks from every 4th of July. The path does connect with the railroad bridge bringing you back to the Lewiston side at Rail Road park where they have concerts once in a while as well as the yearly Great Falls Balloon Festival. The next time I get down the Riverwalk, I will be sure to get some photos and post them of some of the views you will experience.

At the end of a winding scenic drive this place is what you think of when you think Coastal Maine. During the summer there is a concession stand, life guards, and park staff. The lagoon is a calm warmer more shallow place to swim, perfect for the kiddos. There beach goes on for miles and waves crash along the sand and the rocks. Tons to do and explore! Climb around the rocky shore, explore tide pools, and make sand castles! It's a family friendly place, with some of most breathtaking views in the State. Bring a nice picnic there are a lot of picnic tables scattered around there are two beaches to explore with plenty of parking as well as changing rooms, showers, and ADA compliant restrooms. There is also a large shelter that groups can use for meetings, cook outs etc. No pets allowed during certain months. Put this park on your must visit list if you're in Maine.

They've got their own police precinct and you'll probably get stuffed in the small cement tombs below the swan pond if you commit a heinous enough crime. I'm not sure if this is an actual detention/detainment place but I have been a visitor to Brooklyn central booking when I have - on occasion - gotten myself busted. Those are "the tombs" the real place and not good for the faint of heart, such is not the case with yours truly. And that's part of my stepping off point - America the beautiful, home of well kept national parks and well preserved federal lands - fortunately I've been to my fair share of them, because to pass up a day or even a few minutes in a park is just silly talk to me. My above mentioned thoughts of crime is due to my city life experience - my conditioning and experience with the Darksiders. And as I walk the Merrymeeting Trail the cars whoosh past me on my left with gorgeous trees and green green grass to my right and duality is striking my thoughts rather hard. I need to sit down and think this through, some part of my mind still thinking about safety issues for those whom aren't capable of dealing with darkness - but if I'm on the trails, I got your back and no harm will come to you. And it's getting me thinking about contextualizations and contradictions the nature of duality and the nature of our duality. There's a question and there is an answer - there is always two I suppose - two people in a marriage - God and the devil - it always seems to take two and without two - maybe there is nothing, both play roles and each needs both I suppose. The oneness is the basis and I've been one for a bit. My life in Maine, although being cut short due to in-climate weather has introduced me to many new thoughts that I'd not though before. My life away from New York City has allowed me to be able to open new thought passages - tear off that unnatural facade of a most unnatural world - the one I've been living, sometimes in and out for business or for pleasure - this heavy constricting mask upon my face - each breathe is a little more strained - and like a fool I've been wearing it long, its like if an albatross and a pissed off Tutakhamun had a child - and I was probably beyond that and didn't know it So it's not the duality of nature - it's the duality of the universe man - am I a new blooming tree or a '89 Ford with engine lights lit? And this is the thought of the day for me which I'll ponder no further because the answer arrived and hit me right between the eyes - it was so obvious. What a wonderful walk we had today!

The West End is a promenade that's located on the edge of an area called Brahmall Hill and is…read morecurrently listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It's got beautiful and historical architecture with it's Victorian homes (and, apparently, former sea captain homes as well), stunning views of NH's White Mountains on clear days, spacious green areas and walking paths, a tree swing, the Western Cemetery fraught with our cities deceased wealthier ancestors, great walking areas, and it even once won an award from the Portland Phoenix for having one of the best secret spots to make-out in a tree (I kid you not). To me, the Western Prom is the established, composed, unruffled older sister (who's probably quite proper and likes garden parties) to the Eastern Prom. I'd like to think I've got a little West End in me, and it's fun to pretend I belong there when I'm picnicking and watching the planes come in and out of PWM from a distance. I've seen kiddos practicing lacrosse here with their dad, people relaxed under trees reading, friends playing a pick-up game of bocce while drinking something out of red solo cups. There used to be more events held here (... the legendary Halloween parade is not to be missed); so hopefully those concerts and outings begin to happen again!
