Do you ever feel self-conscious when you nearly miss a step going down the stairs because one of your shoes happens to break, forcing you to trip awkwardly in front of a crowd? Well, I'll tell you how it felt. Yes, it was a little embarrassing (but I'm quite used to stacking it in front of people), but what was worse was looking at your bare foot and then hopelessly around the train station.
Fortunately Kogarah station happens to be constructed into the Kogarah Town Centre complex. And luckily for me that meant shops, and shops meant replaceable shoes. Hobbling around with one shoe was absolutely ridiculous, and the stares I got eventually meant I was walking on my two bare feet. Nice people pitied me, the local Woolies was hopeless and one man offered to help me out - but I still had no shoes. Flustered and running late, I finally wandered barefoot into the Town Centre Pharmacy. The young staff member there was very sympathetic and set me up with some slip on 'Party Feet' shoes. They were one size too big, looked surprisingly decent, and they were on sale for $9.99. They were the last pair but she was so helpful she kept looking for other sizes at the back for me, despite the older woman who didn't seem to care less.
All in all, great customer service from the young woman, especially when it's one of those unfortunate experiences you don't tend to forget. read more
