They also cater for those who work in the adult entertainment industry as they stock lingerie, clothes and accessories as well. I went in there to buy some pole shoes for my next end of term performance at Bobbi's Pole Studio and they are fantastic. I had to order them from the US and it took a couple of weeks to come through. The girls there are sweet and really helpful. I think they all work in the industry so are knowledgeable and can provide some great practical advice. I've since gone a few times to get shoes resoled or topy soles put on new shoes and they always do a great job in time for whenever you want to pick it up. My shoes always come back looking cleaner and shinier than when I dropped them off, too! Perhaps the best part about Falkingham's though, is that they wrap your shoes up in brown paper after they're done with them - Maria Von Trapp, you were onto something there.

The cobbler can always been seen out back, cobbling away, the watchmaker is diligently fiddling with teeny little screws at the front counter and there always seems to be some intense conversation going on with the woman at the counter and a customer over a shoe sitting between them on the counter. These people care about the work they do, and I have entrusted them with many a pair of my favourite shoes for re-soling over the years. They do a good job at an average price (I was shocked to find that shoe repairs have tripled in price over the last decade, not just here but everywhere- I shopped around), and they get it done when they say they will.

What I mean by that is that this shop is filled with very sensible, smart and wearable shoes. I think the owner is aiming for the more middle-aged customer, as there is certainly nothing daring or unconventional about their choices. This was a suspicion which was confirmed by a friend who said her Mum religiously buys all her shoes from here. I can picture the mumsyish-looking shopkeeper loving this kind of customer too! There is a wide selection, from winter boots, to work shoes (tonnes of 'em!), to more fun summery shoes, with the odd designer label quietly slipped in. Their quality is matched in price but the shoes looked reliable and wearable enough to make the investment worth it.

It's not a huge shop, but if you're after something beyond the department store staples like Jane Debster and Hush Puppies, it's worth a look. But it's in the realm of high heels that Zu really comes into its own. Unluckily for me, I possess the skinniest feet in the universe. Happily for me, Zu caters for such abnormally anorexic feet - bad luck to you wider-soled sisters. I'm pretty happy with this turn of events, as is my wallet: Zu shoes rarely cost as much as they might elsewhere. But my favourite thing about Zu is the range within its stock. Bang on trend block colour satin heels are available, as are Hollywood's favourite nude pumps. But in addition to these overly fashionable shoes, the old faves still have a place - black stilettos and silver strappy sandals are readily available here too.

In business for over twenty years and being Australia's largest range of cowboy boots, Route 66 offers a seemingly endless collection of boots. They also sell a wide variety of 1950's inspired rockabilly, Americana clothing, hats, belts, sunglasses, handbags, lingerie and a selection of funky T-Shirts, my personal favourite being the "God Goo Muck" shirt. What excited me most in Route 66 was their range of kitschy, pop art junk, which I had to resist stocking up on, if you are in need of a Jimi Hendrix corpse in coffin (or the Ramones or Rolling Stones in a shared coffins), a paper mache skeleton a crucifix covered in guns and horseshoes knives and guns or other classic Christian kitsch. You can even find a Wacky Wobbler Rat Fink. I don't think I want to be a cowboy, well not this week anyway, but I did have fun at Route 66, it is a large and fun shop to wander around, the staff are friendly and they play a catchy mix of swinging country pop. Route 66 is definitely something different in Darlinghurst, even if it is not your style it is worth going for the experience.

Sick, I know. I was window-shopping along Crown one evening a while back and spotted my new loves in the window of Route 66: tall, grey boots with white cut out detailing and small red hearts decorating the top. I like to think the love at first sight was mutual, but I might be lying to myself. The very next day, I marched my little self in there to claim what was rightfully mine. And then BAM, I was hit with the truth. My lusty loves who had made so many sweet promises to me through the shop window the night before, were playing cold, hard games with me now. There's a difference between playing hard to get, and actually BEING hard to get. And at $425 for the pair, this was no game. So, what could I do? Deflated and heart broken, I cast one last glance at my beautiful boots and bee-lined it out of there. If the interaction were a Western quick draw, I definitely hadn't been victorious.

Campo Marzio Design have a incredible collection of products for the most fashion business person including document folders, business card holders, laptop bags, and pens - you just have to see the pens. Bonded leather products (reconstituted leather) and geniune leather products are offered to customers. Of course the geniune leather will cost you the bucks but they are worth it. If you are a little tight on cash, go for the bonded leather products, just gorgeous, affordable and very durable. Do yourself a favour and get yourself down there. Check out the store in Leura (blue mountains) and Potts Point too, both equally fabulous. Customer service is exceptional, everything comes gift wrapped with boxes and ribbons and all for free.
