Rude....I told him I need to drop off because I had to run to a meeting. He told me not to show up at his place in a rush. Very rude and unprofessional. Back up! Turn around....NO! I have been a customer of Tovar for several years now and he has never made me feel uncomfortable (NOT AT ALL, he tells me to even lock the door when I'm changing for safety and comfort). He is a very sweet, older man. They are not big on technology, so he operates cash only, but that does not make the business sketchy. He has altered a number of dresses for me (as you can see). He did an amazing job on all of them. It can be a little expensive but you certainly get what you pay for. read more

WOMEN, DO NOT COME HERE- UNSAFE. My girlfriend and I came here looking for a tailor. When the owner (I assume "Tovar") helped us, he tried to close me out of room, so that he could "focus" on working with her and the dress alone. Immediately felt off when he asked for this so I insisted the door stay open. He proceeded to talk about her body and touch her hips and legs uncomfortably as I was watching from the door. We have been to tailors before and understand there should be some focus on the body, but these things were not okay and definitely crossing the line. When I noticed this, I walked into the room and stood next to her so that he would stop. He was clearly upset that I had canceled his plans to be further inappropriate, and the appointment ended immediately after. As we were leaving he called me a racist along with other names. OMG! Tovar made a miracle happen. My sister had purchased a dress for her son's wedding, (the Dress shop will remain nameless, but the dress shop ruined her dress after 5 botched alteration attempts). Just days before the wedding, I brought the dress I wore to my daughter's wedding (I live in NJ) and it was a little too small for my sister. With just a day or two Tovar made the adjustments to the dress and Voila!!! My sister was a gorgeous Mother of the Groom! I truly believe She wore it best! I went to pick up a dress I had hemmed and he charged me 75.00 (which is a ridiculous amount of money )! I got my credit card out to pay and he told me he only accepts cash or checks. I counted out the cash I had and only had 68.00. Now I have to make another trip over there to get my dress. I personally think he should have discussed his overpriced service when I left the dress. Extremely unprofessional and rude. I had 2 pieces that were given to him and he called a day before they were due to be ready after 2 weeks of having them asking what needed to be done. Then I came in to pick them up and there was a handwritten note on the door saying he was out of the office. Then I come back and he only takes cash or checks, so I wrote out a check for him to just tell me he doesn't want an out of state check after I finished. Good. Lord. Where to even start on this guy. My wife brought in a bridesmaid dress that needed alterations. Being the type-A personality she is, she took it to Tovar six weeks before she needed it back. Everything was fine. We get a call THE DAY WE WERE SUPPOSED TO PICK IT UP, that he doesn't have the right color thread, and we need to go find it ourselves. What?? He's the tailor. He's charging $150 for alterations and we need to drive around Waco to get the materials? And in all the time he's had the dress, he calls and tells us this THE DAY it's supposed to be finished? "You won't be able to find it, don't even bother". What an unbelievable jerk. Just unreal. "I make customers buy thread and zippers and materials all the time" he tells us. No apologies, no discount, nothing. Utterly screws us over and doesn't give a rip. Fortunately, we found another tailor in Waco who would do it and miraculously that one owned thread, and did it for $50 dollars cheaper. THIS GUY IS THE BIGGEST SHAM IN WACO. The guy who runs it, I'm assuming "Tovar", is extremely rude and literally insulted me for bringing in things for my mother. He basically asked if I do everything my mother tells me and said I didn't seem to know anything despite trying to be helpful and run an errand for her. I also had a best friend bring a dress for a dance here to get altered, and he alluded to the fact "she was fat/ the dress did not fit". A. she wasn't and B. it's his job to alter clothing, not tell people how to make personal improvements. Awful service and he's known around Waco for being extremely rude. read more

I usually do not write reviews but I felt the need to let people know my experience here. I had 2 dresses and both needed to be taken it a bit. The main one is a bridesmaids dress that was for my best friends birthday next weekend. At first I was very grateful he was able to get it done in time. Also a strap/ribbon for that dress was missing and he told me not to worry that he would find something to fix it. He said he could have it ready he Wednesday and I leave the state Thursday so I wasn't stressed about it anymore. The initial total for the bridesmaids dress was $60 - It was an okay price not too bad but for both taking it in and fixing the ribbon part. On Wednesday I came to get them and there was no ribbon for the top. I was concerned but reminded him of this and he brought me out string - for a bridesmaids dress. and I politely reminded him he told me that this would be wearable aka not fall down. He started denying it and accusing me and it was not a very good experience. Honestly just very rude and demeaning it was awful. He also charged me the whole price despite the dress not being done as discussed (in cash even though he only told me this WHEN I came to pick the dress up not before). So here I am with a bridesmaids dress as the maid of honor for my best friends wedding and my dress is not wearable and $60 dollars out of my pocket and as a broke college student who was accused by a grown man not very happy. My experience at Tovar was remarkably different from that of Lauren A. I found this business to be very focused on my needs. I felt that I was treated as an individual (he remembered me many months after my first visit) and he also seemed genuinely concerned about making sure I looked my best. I have recently moved 100 miles away from Waco and I just recently made it a point to take three items to Tovar when I knew that business would take me through Waco. I had a dressed altered here. Very friendly, however upon picking up the finished product I noticed that the zipper would not zip all the way back up. It wouldn't zip when it was on the hanger which means it definitely wasn't going to zip while I was wearing it. I pointed out that the dress no longer zipped and he struggled with it for a few mintues without any success. There was no acknolwedgement that the zipper went from a working zipper to a not working zipper in the time that it was in their care. They offered to fix what was broken for another 25$. Not very good quality for alterations and they do not seem concerned with delivering quality work. The alterations that did get done were not actually what we discussed either. Find someone else to do your alterations it is not worth the stress of getting a poorly put together service. read more

Never again! Rudest guy ever! I just needed to have 7 flat drapery panels cut vertically down the middle and hemmed. He showed zero interest in the job and told me it would be put on the back burner to whenever he had time to get to them. I asked him how much he would charge and he said it would be a lot (we didn't even get that far to see what "a lot" was) I just told him that he did not seem too interested in the job and walked out. Stay away from this place unless you like having your floor length gowns hemmed at your ankles, being called a liar or cheap, and my personal favorite being called fat. The customer service is awful and the turn around time for them to ruin your belongings is way too long. read more

I've now had several items tailored or repaired by Tovar, including having dress pants taken in, dress shirt sleeves shortened, etc. Tovar is a true professional. Does great work, has an eye for it, and treats you with courtesy. Pretty affordable too. I recommend him to all my friends. read more
