Summary: 4.2. Very good contemporary Melbourne cafe. Equal to many or most highly rated places…read more Food, coffee and service are all excellent. Simplicity is the key here. Everything is done well. Nothing is over complicated. Review: The cafe is on the north side of lower Heidelberg road. It's a pleasantly laid out establishment. There are nice wood featured chairs and tables throughout. A wood covered front counter as well. Brick walls throughout too with one small tiled wall. There's a reasonable distance between tables. Nice lighting is also featured. Conventional music playing on the sound system, a bit prosaic for me but I could have just scored the wrong rotated playlist. Maybe needs something a little softer. Overall the space has a nice warm cozy feel that was very likable . I scored a pleasant greeting on arrival. It was hard not to notice the manager and staff interacting well with patrons, which enhanced the nice feel of the cafe. I had a beautiful coffee first off which came out quickly after I ordered it. It was a rich, dark, well made brew with impressive length. No half measures were taken on this long black. It was a beauty. The food is the key though, eh. It's a smallish menu here for all day breakfast and lunch. I found that an advantage as too many menu items can befuddle a simple soul like me. Nothing was overcomplicated and this menu offered ample choice I thought. I ordered the curds and beets dish off the lunch menu. This consists of goats cheese croquettes, heirloom baby beets, beetroot pesto and a frisée salad. It's a rustic looking dish but wonderfully so. It made for a gorgeous lunch that gave me all the freshness, health and flavour I was after when I walked in. The goats cheese croquettes were soft, delicate and exquisitely flavoured. They were really lovely. The heirloom beets of various kinds were excellent too. Tasty with just the right amount of give. Lovely greens with a good dressing as well. The side of peas and broad beans was really delicious too. I could barely fault these dishes which were very good. Maybe a tiny bit more seasoning on both dishes, although maybe many people want to control this themselves. I found myself preferring this cafe to a few of those in the inner north. The concentration here is on substance not style. I thoroughly enjoyed the cafe which has only been open a few months. Based on this experience, it will do very well indeed.

I walked past this place earlier and decided to come back later because it looked like a bar. Well,…read moreit isn't really a bar, it is more a cafe that has a rather nice courtyard out the back. I found that the service too bad, and they were reasonably helpful as well, but the food choices didn't seem to be all that great. Still they did make some rather nice, and quite crispy, fries, so I did actually like that. Yet, the place didn't seem to jump out at me in the way that some places tend to do. I was nice, but not as great as some.

It's a 3.7 for me. Nice sized space inside. Not too noisy either. Lovely outdoor area as well…read more I started with a lovely long black coffee. It was superb. You can't do it much better. I ordered the chilli scrambled eggs. These had a pleasant nicely balanced warm lips generating flavour. I initially thought the dish but a little light on for eggs. The sourdough the eggs were were perched was good but a little bit thick. But, by the end I thought I was probably wrong about those two aspects. The dish was very nice and the size was basically perfect. Other meals were much enjoyed by our party of 6 including the world's most beautiful woman's pumpkin toastswith avocado, chick peas, oven roasted tomatoes, etc. There was delightful service throughout from a number of servers including one in a beanie and black t shirt who was exceptional. Conclusion: a perfectly good well run place with very good food and nice service. Not mush else needed is there.

There's an overall dark aura but it feels pretty cool overall. The coffee here was good. The onion muffin I chose was delicious too, best I've had anywhere for a while. Service was good here as well. Everything was delivered very quickly and politely. Nice place here. I'll certainly return for brunch in future.

It's located along train lines in a discreet quiet pocket of the Fairfeild suburb. In essence, to go on a search and adventure, Mr Wednesday awaits your arrival. Inside it has a fantastic fit out; with great design elements and a well planned floorspace. Shelving in the kitchen maximisies storage area without being too cluttered or cramped. Overall Mr Wednesday has a very pleasing presence, with relaxed confident service. Eating in, one is allowed to dine at the pace they wish, and nothing feels rushed. Staff do their thing, but only when needed, i.e. there is no minimal intervention for asking for anything further or how the experience is going. Perfect. Filter coffee is a winner, and the jerk chicken burger in a brioche bun (Dench qaulity) is sublime. The best part is, the aforementioned burger comes fantastic home style potato chips. All in all nothing to fault; switched on easy going staff in a pleasent evironment.
