A 90 minute massage was fantastic and included a good scalp massage. My only problem was I put on the fill out sheet to focus on my lower back and that was definitely not the focus. Other than that, the pressure was fantastic and I felt WONDERFUL leaving the room. Between the massage and the facial, my friend and I were able to chat and enjoy another glass of champagne while they prepped the rooms. The facial was good by Nas. Renaissance is in one of those older, 1960's buildings along that strip of Poplar between Highland and Chickasaw Plaza. The inside is nice enough. Not overly posh, but nice. I am not one for the glamour in the reception area as I am the quality of the massage. My massage was GREAT. I believe I had a student (who are not allowed to receive tips) and she did an excellent job. Excellent technique from head to toe. In fact, I love a good scalp and face massage - which many places overlook or barely attend to - and this young lady really listened to what I was wanting from my massage. She even worked out the kink in my "crunchy muscle" in my left shoulder. I would highly recommend Renaissance.

Don't let it fool you. I arrived at 12:55 pm for an appointment that was booked for 1:15 pm. When I walked in I told the receptionist my name and that I was there for a 90 minute massage. I stopped at the restroom (overflowing trash can and tissues all over the floor) then was shown to a massage room (large room for couples massages, nothing fancy, but not bad). After a quick ask of why I was there, I undressed and was on the table at 1:00 pm, face up as requested. I waited on the table for a long and concerning 20 minutes before anyone came back to check on me or start the service (I thought they may have left and I debated dressing and going to look for someone). At 1:20 pm the masseuse walked in and began the massage. No mention of the long wait at all. The massage itself was average. Very "grabby" versus more advanced massage techniques and while I mentioned tension in my shoulder and back area there was no extra focus or care given. It was very routine and I left not feeling relaxed or loosened (although the rough start may have contributed to that). The massage was done at 2:30 on the dot and the masseuse told me I was done and left the room. In my mind I was doing the math and realized that I paid for 90 minutes but only got 70 (not counting my 20 minute wait on the table). It was the Friday before the holiday and I just wanted to get out of there. While I should have spoken up then, I unfortunately paid them and (over)tipped and left. (Keep an eye on the tip options if you add it to your card, as they start at 15% versus 10%) They send a followup email for a survey. I responded to the email with my experience and said I chose not to write a negative survey response but wanted them to know my experience. They responded the same day with the following, "Our records show and if you check your confirmation, you will see that your appointment time was scheduled for 1:15pm. You arrived before your scheduled appointment time, therefore the therapist took you to the treatment room and gave you more time to settle in. Your treatment started at 1:20pm and ended at 2:30pm which resulted in a 70 min massage. Our 90 minute massages are actually 80 minutes of hands on treatment. The final 10 minutes are for clients to regroup and get dressed." So... I arrived early and instead of telling me or asking me to wait in the lobby, they set me up in a room and leave me. THEN, it is their custom to take off 10 minutes from your service, so you can change clothes within the time you've paid for. (Versus them coordinating that extra time needed between clients on their end, you know, as a business). Then they still started 5 minutes late and ended 20 minutes early (or 10 accepting to their day-spa-math). They offered me 10 minutes free to be added on to my next appointment, which I will skip since I'm not going back. They won't offer me a credit, they say, because I already received a $40 "1st time client" discount on my service. Just skip this place. There has to be somewhere with better customer service and better massages in the area.
