I got to tried the aquino sandwich, pulled meat with jalapeno, and the brisket sandwich. They were good but nothing remarkable, just OK by US standards. But, of course, this is Buenos Aires so finding authentic american food is close to impossible and that means something. However, even though I did like the food and I'd be willing to give it another try in the future, I ended up a bit disappointed about the whole experience. Poor drink options, hard to the eye place, I don't think this joint would stand more than a month in the States before going out of business.

The ketchup is home made too and it's so good! They have lots of options and you can make your own. I love the ciabatta bread and "crujiente de cerdo" is the best thing. The desserts are also surprisingly amazing! I like the passion fruit one more but the chocolate one is also spectacular. Pro tip: you can double up on anything on the pre chosen burgers and if you make your own. Don't get me started on the potatoes! Once again -SO GOOD! They are crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Both Rústicas y las batatas are delicious. The whole feel of the place is really modern and the burger bar concept is super cool and new. The servers are really nice and they have an iPad ordering system that makes it faster and easier. YOU HAVE TO COME HERE. It's usually pretty full and there's usually a line but it's very very worth it!

The food is generally Argentine, but with some nice creative twists here and there, and a few dishes that have influences from other places in the world - like a hummus platter, or the day's special, a chicken curry. Whenever I see olives and bread as something you have to order if you want on the table, I start to wonder if the place is a rip-off, I mean, dump some olives out of a jar into a bowl, and stick some of BA's ubiquitous cotton-ball bread on the table, and hit us with a 90 peso charge? But, oh... these are house cured black olives, pits removed, and cured in lemon and thyme, and they're outstanding. As is the elongated football of a bread (all breads are baked in-house). And then there were the empanadas, of which we had two rounds - coming in four varieties - a ricotta, spinach, walnut and portobello; a ham and cheese with a not the usual suspects cheese gooey and melty inside; a barbecued chicken with a bbq sauce that was beautifully balanced; and the star, the tapa de asado ahumada - basically the cap of meat over the shortrib, smoked, and kind of the house specialty, and completely awesome. I almost picked up half a dozen of those to go when we left. All the empanadas run 42-44 pesos apiece. A short section of the menu is entitled La Ganga del Mediodía, the "noon bargain", and consists of a choice of several of their main course meats (which come in a 1/4 kg portion), served in a 1/8 kg portion with a choice of several side dishes, for a mere 175 pesos. Two of our number selected the bondiola, pork shoulder, slow-cooked rotisserie style on a spit. They did differ on their side dish choices, potatoes and sweet potatoes. Very good, though both noted that the meat wasn't quite as hot as they would have liked. The claim to fame smoked shortrib meat, served up with a side of coleslaw - just as good as in the empanada. And, a six-day cured and then smoked pastrami in sandwich form. One of the better pastrami sandwiches I've had here, with bread and butter pickles that were sharp rather than sour, and a housemade whole grain mustard, and... actual rye bread. I did think the amount of meat on the sandwich was a little skimpy, given that the sandwich is priced as a main course, but has the quantity of one of the lunch specials. 260 pesos. A round of beers on tap. All the above food. Generous tip. And we headed out sated for 1920 pesos, 480 apiece, or $13. Any of us would happily go back!

Like many Buenos Aires restaurants that aren't parrillas, the menu defies characterization. The muzzarella con morrones was 15 pesos and featured a thick sludge of cheese, a couple slabs of red pepper (morrones), and a Spanish olive. The squat triangular shape, thick and airy crust, and volcanic flow of cheese takes some getting used to for this New Yorker. The baked empanadas were not terrible, but I'm beginning to regret the concept of baking when applied to empanadas. The place is clean and aside from the fluorescent lighting, it's a few steps above what you'd expect for the food. Somehow, there's table service. Again, for the food they're serving, it's surprising to see small groups of Argentinians in their 30's and 40's having an actual dinner here, or older couples dining with a bottle of wine. Worth a visit? No better to come here than anywhere else for pizza. But there's a (bidirectional) cultural lesson to be had in seeing people who are presumably Argentines, eating what we'd consider drunk food with the air of being at any other proper restaurant.

The man was angry for some reason, he clearly disliked people who didn't speak fluent Spanish. He muttered something in Spanish to the waiter, took a glance at the pizza in the restaurant's own box and frowned again. This man loved to frown. "No" Irvin was confused. He bought this pizza from the place yesterday and just wanted them to reheat it. Not to eat in the place, just a simple microwave request. He'd seen the waiters reheat the cold pizza on the counter before. "Just reheat...like...bzzzzz...ding!" Irvin mimed the microwave action. "No" Man what a douche. The waiters are alright, not neglectful but far from great. They're like cold sandwiches, just there. No smiles the 3 times I was there. No friendliness. Just the beat down "I'll get it done attitude". Again...not asshole waiters. Just a dick manager. Skip this place if you're an English speaking tourist and go to La Junta, just 3 blocks down la mayo. They're kind, something this place doesn't get.

During the day, it's a place where shoppers and casual strollers drop in and grab a bite to eat. Apparently at night, along with the opening of several bars and clubs on the plaza, it's a place for "drunken kids" to gather sustenance in the midst of their revelries, staying open until either 2 or 4 a.m., depending on the night of the week. I ordered up the "Deluxe", though asked them to hold the "sweet Jack BBQ" - I've never been a big fan of sweet barbecue sauce on burgers, and of their six burger selections, four of them have it - and especially because the burger also comes with aioli. The rundown on the burger? First, the bun is huge in comparison - the patty is kind of lost - but that seems to be because three of those six burgers are "double beef" and rather than use two patties, they make a double sized patty that does fill the bun. The toppings, lettuce, tomato, red onion were nice and fresh. The egg yolk was still a little gooey in the center, not hard cooked. The bacon was missing in action completely, which I didn't notice until about halfway through. Lots of cheese - both mozzarella and cheddar. And, a lot of mayo - if that was aioli, they forgot the garlic in it - plus ketchup, which wasn't on the list of things on the burger, but I suppose they put it there to make up for the no bbq sauce request. The burger itself - decent quality meat, but basically unseasoned, and fairly dense - ground too fine and not enough fat. Overall, it's an okay burger, but not one I'd make an effort to return for.
