I chose this urgent care because of the excellent reviews, which makes my experience even more disappointing. When I arrived, I explained that it felt like something was stuck in my throat or airway. I was told - verbatim - that they "wouldn't touch me with a 10-foot pole." That was shocking and unprofessional. Instead of evaluating me, they immediately directed me to the ER. The ER visit ended up costing me $800, where I waited about two hours only to be prescribed amoxicillin - something the urgent care could have easily done themselves. Later, when I saw an ENT, I was told my symptoms were due to acid reflux. My symptoms had already been present for three days, so it clearly was not an emergency airway obstruction. It's frustrating that neither the urgent care nor the ER considered reflux as a possibility before escalating the situation. Being told they "didn't want to take my money" feels ironic, considering I was sent somewhere significantly more expensive for essentially the same level of care. I would not recommend this facility. Patients deserve to feel evaluated and respected - not dismissed. read more

Normally TAUC is great. Not this one. Filled out everything on line and still waited 1.5 hours before I gave up. The front desk worker told me I needed to wait to check in and then left out the back. She came back 20 minutes later with her hands full of snacks and drinks from a gas station. Every time I came back in after receiving the "please come to the front desk to check in" text, she was finishing a new snack and completely disrespectful. She literally licked her fingers before she would answer my question about checking in. This was my first visit; therefore, unfamiliar with the staffing. I was not aware of what a PA was and when I questioned the provider she was visibly annoyed. I started my inquiry with forgive my ignorance, but what is a PA and how does that measure to a physician or nurse practitioner, which are providers I'm accustomed to. I understand this is her problem and not mine, but as a patient I should not experience this. read more

I wouldnt be surprised if the 'Physician Assistant' who took care of me, actually wasn't one. When he told me the results of the on-site tests, he explained "I didn't find nothing wrong"...fine to talk that way, except when you are a medical professional. I asked over and over in different ways about the relatively straight forward reason I was there. He never actually answered my question or addressed the problem. Instead he kept repeating an answer that didnt have to do much with my problem. Moreover it sounded like he'd just memorized it off the internet. I tried to reach a manager, but no one returned my call. I could not find any contact or email on the TAUC website to express my concern. Finally, also worth noting that at the end of Dec TAUC agreed to pay the US Justice Dept $9.1 million for submitting false claims for COVID testing. I would not do business with them ever again. read more

In the past I have had pretty good experiences with Total Access. However my last one was not so great. I'm giving it 2 stars because at least their prices are reasonable and the wait is short, but my overall treatment was not ideal. I went in for extreme pain in my lower abdomen that I was worried could be appendicitis. They were able to see me pretty quickly, got a urine sample, then wanted to give me an IV. The thing is, they wanted to put in the IV for a CT scan, which they do not actually have at this location. It would have made sense to send me to that location and have them do the IV, but they did it there first. The man treating me (he may have been new), despite assuring me beforehand he does this all day every day, did a terrible job with the IV. I've had them before, and they are not supposed to take that long to put in or put me in extreme pain. He was struggling with it clearly, and I could feel blood all over my arm. It looked horrifying. Then they sent me to the other location (south grand), IV still in my arm and uncomfortable. When the actual doctor came in after to talk to me, it was clear he was staring at my arm and how poorly it was done. Some of my review is going to include that one as they were working together, but it was the doctor at the first location who analyzed my CT scan. It didn't take long to get the scan, however I waited over an hour to get the results (they told me 15-20 minutes). It turns out it was a heavily backed up system/extreme constipation (the cause of the pain), and they noticed an ovarian cyst. Seeing that, they told me I needed to see a specialist at the ER. The thing is, now I know cysts like that are normally harmless and not a reason for emergency treatment, plus I know urgent cares can perform pelvic exams (I have had one at a total access before). Furthermore, the ER isn't going to immediately give me a specialist in that. I listened to them and went to the ER where I waited hours to just be given a basic pelvic exam by a regular ER doctor, an over the counter laxative, and told to follow up with my Gynecologist. All of that could have been done/told to me at the urgent care if they were more competent, and it would have saved me the $700 and many hours I wasted at the hospital. If I need to go to an urgent care again, I will at least be looking for a different location. read more

I've been using TAUC for several years now and for several reasons. Firstly, they're affordable, regardless which kind of insurance I was carrying (or none at all) they discount their services and only request payment if you have a copay. After that, they'll work with you on paying your invoices. Secondly, and a near tie to the firstly, despite or in spite of the affordability, all the locations, this one included, offer EXCEPTIONAL CARE with nurses, physicians, and technologists who want to help you get better and put their patients first. It's also quite clean. Not hospital clean, cleaner! I've been to hospitals and other urgent cares before where I thought about whether I'd get more sick by being there. Not at any of the TAUC that I've utilized. Another advantage to TAUC, this location I know, not sure if it's true for all of them, they have X-ray, CT, blood and urine testing, all the amenities of an ER without the tired, rushed docs and nurses and without the huge scary bill. You can honestly come here for anything from cold and flu to broken bones to I don't know what's wrong with me. Summary- if you need urgent care, go where they care. Affordable, professional, and close to your home. Ya I sound like a commercial, but this is why I'm loyal to this urgent care chain. read more

I'm leaving this review for the billing and lab only, the practitioners that cared for me were amazing and kind. However, everything that took place the second I walked out of the door was a scene from hell. First of all, I paid out of pocket and was told it would only be $150 for testing, I asked multiple times for clarification and was reassured I had paid for my visit in full. Nevertheless, after two weeks of dealing with the billing department and two random $150 charges to the card I had on file, I end up discovering I was in fact charged over $800 for the testing I received during my visit. Imagine my surprise when I found out an originally $150 visit totaled to $980. Now, they did not communicate this with me and the only way I found this out was by repeatedly calling their billing department. Further, when I explained my frustration, the woman I spoke to claimed that they informed me there would be a "small charge" for out of house lab results. in what world is $800 considered a "small charge". Additionally, their lab tests are through Quest, I could have gone directly to quest and received the same tests for less than half of what I paid TAUC. Back to my actual visit, when I did receive my results from quest I called TAUC and they made me wait over 8 hours to hear from their lab, and when I finally got a hold of someone after calling multiple times throughout the day, the NP was extremely short and could barely even give me a description of the antibiotics that she prescribed, and failed to even give me any information on what I had tested positive for. I understand that the lab was supposed to handle that but that does not excuse her poor patient skills. As someone that works in healthcare facing patient, I would never be that short with someone to the point that they're having to consult Google and the Walgreens pharmacist to find out what they are taking. Overall, between billing, and the lab I have had a terrible experience with TAUC that has cost $980 when I was presented $150, on top of having to chase anyone to hear an answer on anything. I will not be going back, and I would encourage anyone who is paying out of pocket to seriously consider their other options. read more

Waited over an hour to get tested for Covid-19, which was no big deal. They said my results would be in within 3-5 days. I'm now on my 6th day with no updates on their online portal (which is impossible to find on their website anyway.) Go to Walgreens on Union, they have lab results within 1-3 hours! I should've went there. What's the point in getting tested if I won't know for a week, which by that point the results could be skewed if I'm in contact with Covid-19 anyway! read more

Went to TAUC for symptomatic diagnostic testing. Was told explicitly that my insurance would cover the cost and that I would not be responsible for paying anything. The bill was $201 for the visit + ~$750 for quest diagnostics, none of which had been explained to me. For months, I called the billing department, quest, and my insurance company every couple of weeks. It took multiple tries (more than 5 times) for this TAUC location to correct their diagnostic codes, and insurance eventually covered the $201 visit fee. For a couple of months, they kept informing me they had fixed the codes, only for me to contact my insurance company and be informed that they had sent the same ones back. Despite the mistakes on the part of TAUC, they are requiring me to pay the $750 Quest bill (reduced to ~$636 for self-pay) for a visit that should have been $0. It frequently takes 30+ minutes of being on hold to talk to anyone in the billing department (their call-back option has never worked for me). TAUC - please train your employees to explain the costs of visits upfront and acknowledge if they are not sure. I was confidently told that I would pay $0, which is misleading and has cost me $636 that I will struggle to pay. This visit took place after the No Surprises Act was passed, but the cost of services was incorrectly explained to me. read more

Wanted to schedule an X-ray. registration process was very simple over the phone and then I came to the location when the text messaged advised me so as I was 2nd line , then I waited 45 mins in my car until i got called in and then filled out a form and again waited another 50 mins until one of their nurse came and asked basic questions and then after another 15-20 mins they came and did the X-ray. The Dr who came and talked to me was an excellent person and she gave me good advise. But the amount of time i waited for the little work needed was very irritating. 1 x-ray and just 5 mins of advice took me 3 and half hours. read more

I had a very pleasant experience here the staff were friendly and they made sure you were aware of what they were doing and if you have been waiting a while they make sure to check on you. I like that they have testing X-ray, labs and a pharmacy on sight it makes for an easy one stop trip during a time when all you want to do is be at home in bed. read more

Fantastic! We are from Texas, driving through St Louis on our way to Chicago for vacation. My daughter was in excruciating pain with a massive, throbbing ear infection. The entire staff, from the front office coordinator, to the MA, to the ninja Angel who gave her the shot, to the physician who spent so much time with us explaining every detail... they were all absolutely wonderful. They took excellent care of my child and within a few hours, she was feeling better. Not being from the area, and just passing through, having a pharmacy on site was an added bonus. I can't thank them enough for taking such great care of my daughter. We are able to enjoy the rest of our road trip because of them. read more

So today was the 2nd time I've been to this urgent care, so close to my house. The care I received was nothing short of excellent. They really listen to you,and take their time with you. Both times I was in for much worse illnesses than I thought. It's so convenient to be able to walk down the hall for a chest X-ray, or a cat scan. Everyone was very friendly and personable. I was treated with respect and never once felt uncomfortable. I came in after a fall to have my wrist, elbow and hip checked out. At no time was I treated like a scammer or faker. I would absolutely return to this location if ever needed and recommend others go as well. Went to this urgent care facility for a hand injury, nurse and doctor were great. TAUC claims to be very affordable but they tried to charge $500 for a finger splint that you could find on Amazon for $20, SAME BRAND/MANUFACTURER. The for-profit medical care in America is despicable. Did I mention they also charge $100 to have their nurse watch you put it on and say "Keep it dry"? They bill it as "prosthetic training". Make sure you inquire on the cost of anything before signing off, and not make the same mistake I did in trusting that AFFORDABLE actually means affordable. read more

I had a sore throat that had gotten worse over the course of a week. The only thing worse than that was that the pain became absolutely unbearable on a Saturday, when all the other medical facilities nearest me were closed. I found this place on google and arrived there around 11:30 am. Over the course of the next 55 minutes, I was onboarded in a treatment room by an EMT, examined by a doctor, tested for strep and mono (both were negative thankfully), given a steroid shot to reduce the pain in my throat , given a prescription for antibiotics to reduce infection, and checked out with a receipt and the necessary self-care instructions with my receipt. All of this was done in a professional, compassionate, and efficient manner I'd never experienced before then. The marketing on their website is no exaggeration, these people really are committed to treating you as efficiently and effectively as possible and I highly recommend it to anyone whose insurance covers it. read more

My family and I usually go to another location, but since this one is closer to our house, we decided to give it a try. Yikes. Extremely unprofessional medical assistants and staff, grossly wrong diagnosis, the "treatment" they gave me actually made the situation worse. I had a simple problem that could have been resolved at the urgent care, but because of their decision to go with the diagnosis that they did, it cost me: 1) hundreds of dollars more than I would have had to pay if they had given me the correct treatment, 2) additional time off of work to go to recommended follow-up appointments which turned out to be completely unnecessary, and 3) WEEKS of unresolved and worsening pain due to the incorrect advice. All of this was enough to make me know I am never going back to that particular location, but what happened next insured that my family will never be returning to any TAUC location. When you visit TAUC, they immediately start hounding you via email to complete a patient satisfaction survey. After I submitted a less than satisfied review, their "medical director" Kelly Dawn Bliss called me to find out why. When I explained everything as I did here, she immediately started arguing with me that the specialist physician with specialized diagnostic tools and decades of specialized experience was wrong and that the random urgent care nurse was right. She even accused the physician of not doing something he should have when TAUC didn't even do as much as the physician did to resolve the issue. I don't expect to get great care at an urgent care facility. My family has joked for years about how, regardless of your initial complaint, TAUC will give you a course of steroids and send you on your way. I also don't have a problem with nurse practitioners - they are great for specialized medicine, sometimes even preferable over a specialist physician for those types of diseases (pediatric oncology nurse practitioners, we are so grateful to you for the care you have provided my child). However, general diagnostics are very difficult without ordering labs or having special equipment, even for board-certified MDs. But the one thing I do know about diagnostics is "When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras." By merely glancing at me, they decided to diagnose me with a very serious systemic condition that is almost statistically impossible for me to have based on my demographics, health history, and family health history. I will never be able to trust TAUC with my family's health again! read more

Don't go there because they will probably send you to the ER anyway and you'll end up paying Total Access and the ER unless it's something minor or very obvious. You need to be aware that the person seeing you may not be a board-certified medical doctor, so they may not be able to diagnose you appropriately, so to cover themselves they will send you to the ER. My understanding is that these extended facilities (like these urgent cares) do not need to have a medical doctor on site. They just need to be available for consultation. Your visit will cost the same for an examination by a non medical doctor and a medical doctor. My daughter went to the Total Access Urgent Care on Hampton & 44. A nurse practitioner diagnosed her with mononucleosis and did a CT scan then sent her to the ER. I later talked to my brother-in-law who is a board certified medical doctor. His assessment is that my daughter did not need a CT-scan and did not need to be sent to the ER. Urgent Care charged me over $600 and I got a bill from the ER for over $2000. I should have just gone to the ER and saved myself $600. I shared my questions and concerns (see my concerns & questions below). Nobody responded to my questions after several requests. I received a call from an Associate Director who refused to answer my questions in email and also did not address my questions when we spoke. I told him I didn't think I should be charged for a visit and CT scan. He disagreed and said he could offer a 15% discount. I expressed my dissatisfaction. I asked him to send me an updated bill and an email response to my questions. I only received an updated bill and a call from the owner of Total Access Urgent Care on a Saturday evening. He said he wanted to address my concerns. I asked him if he read my email and he said partially. I don't understand why he would call me without reading all my concerns and questions. He then went on to tell me that he is a board certified medical doctor with 20+ years experience. I told him that unfortunately he was not the one who examined my daughter so the statement is irrelevant to me. He thought I was being hostile. I don't know what he was trying to accomplish. If he wanted to resolve my issue, he should have read my email and responded to it as I requested and also drop the charges. Other than that, I did not need to repeat the conversations with the two other Total Access Urgent Care staff where they told me that they cared about my daughter's care which is not the issue I had. I wonder how many patients are sent to the ER by Total Access who didn't really need to go... ------------- Concerns & Questions sent to Total Access Urgent Care Thank you for taking the time to speaking with me last week. I just want to take this opportunity to document my understanding & concerns regarding my daughter's, Rachel Kershner, visit in your facility on 2/25/2018. 1. According to Rachel she was told "if you have an abscess we wil send you to the ER and if it needs to be drained they will drain it. They did not state the reason for going to the ER as for my air passage. They only said that if I have an abscess I'll need to go to the ER." 2. Rachel was already diagnosed with mononucleosis before the CT scan. 3. Based on professional assessment that I've received, the CT scan and emergency room visit were unnecessary. It does not seem right to me that you would charge me for a visit and CT scan and then send her to the ER anyway. If the doctor or nurse at Urgent Care is not equipped to diagnose a patient then I don't think he/she should be charging patients for examinations. The purpose of going to Urgent Care was to eliminate the unnecessary ER visit. 4. Rachel went to the ER and was examined by doctors (including an ENT). They released her after many hours with a mononucleosis diagnosis. Given her situation, it is standard practice for the ENT to examine her. I know you mentioned that you worked in an ER for many years. I spoke with my brother-in-law (copied here) who currently works at the ER at SLU and he said this is standard practice given her condition. Rachel went to the ER at SLU. Here are some questions/concerns that I would like you to address: 1. If the nurse practitioner / doctor was concerned about blockage in air passage then why was she not immediately sent to the ER before the CT scan? My understanding is that performing a CT scan would further endanger her situation more since laying down flat would make it harder to breathe. Was there someone onsite trained and available to perform a traecheotomy, if needed? 2. My bill specified a nurse practitioner examined her. Who was the responsible physician? Was the physician on site? 3. Can you please tell me what her vita signs / oxygen saturations were that warranted a CT scan? 4. When Rachel was release by Urgent Care, the nurse / doctor left a heparin lock on her. Is this standard practice? I appreciate your help in this matter. read more

I was not happy with my primary doctor,I also knew something was going on,so I decided I might as well come to total access,because they do pretty much everything under one roof. I have mobility issues and it's difficult to navigate. I was so impressed with the staff I must share,I got immediate help and assistance getting taken care of,they were all very professional and respectful.i was never at anytime nervous as to if I would get around ok they made sure I did,great relief,hopefully I won't need medical help but if I do I am going there,primary refers you to someone else anyway,so might as well go to one place in the first place.i must add they never at anytime suggested any extra treatment,everything was on the up and up. A little more than a week ago I found it necessary to visit the urgent care. I was very sick by the time I went. Total Access on Hampton Ave gave me the very best care I could have gotten. I checked in online, arrived a few minutes before my appt and after filling out a few papers I was taken back right away. I received excellent care and after a couple of xrays, and a breathing treatment I was headed home in about 1 1/2 hrs. If the need arises again, I will definitely go to this urgent care. Everyone was great from start to finish. While my insurance didn't cover the meds if I purchased there, the fact I didn't have to wait an hour or more at Walgreens waiting was worth it. My ins. co. also didn't include this urgent care in the network, it was worth it. There urgent care wasn't so urgent as they weren't open on Sunday and all the reviews were terrible.
