Westchester County is incredibly lucky to have The World Seido Karate Organization right in our own…read morebackyard. Under the leadership of one of the truly few World Renowned Martial Arts Grandmasters, Kaicho Nakamura and his son, successor, and Chief Instructor, Nidaime Nakamura, Seido has become an integral part of not only my life but my entire family as well. A global organization with branches on almost every continent in the world, training is focused on "Karate-Do: The training of mind, body, and spirit to realize the fullness of human potential". As a true traditional Japanese martial art, training is comprised of a dedicated approach to mastering the fundamentals as building blocks to advanced and more complex techniques and requirements as one progresses at their own pace. You will sweat and push yourself, at times, further than you thought you can be pushed. Having trained at The Westchester branch for over 6 years this month, Seido has become an important part of my life where everyone focuses on the concept of Renma, "Keep Polishing" (Improving), regardless of physical ability, age, or rank. So much so, that my wife and I made the decision to introduce our elementary aged twin daughters to Seido earlier this year. The children's program is wonderful and puts exceptional credence to safety, development, and building confidence among the kids and teens. I've witnessed this firsthand as I help assist children's classes periodically. It's been a pleasure to refer Seido to many of our close friends, who also are either members themselves or enrolled their kids in the children's program and train with my girls. All of the instructors are wonderful people who I would trust with my daughters implicitly, without reservation. The organization as a whole attracts high caliber people from different walks of life, who bring a common denominator to the Seido community of being a genuinely good person. I couldn't recommend Seido enough to anyone and everyone. Having never trained in the martial arts before, yet always curious, as challenging and demanding as training is, the hardest part for me was getting the courage up to walk through the door on a particularly cold March evening in 2016. The rest has been exceptionally fulfilling, you won't regret it!

I've never taken up any rigorous athletic training beyond casual workout sessions at a traditional gym before starting up at WBC and I have noticed significant improvement in my overall strength. I went from knowing virtually nothing about boxing to feeling confident with gloves on. As a female I also appreciate the fact that I am not treated as a "dainty creature" and am held to similar standards as the men. Nick is a great gym leader and easily accessible if you have questions. Like his website says there are no hidden fees unlike basically every other boxing gym in the area....you pay up front for everything and that's it. Pricing is reasonable considering you get 1-on-1 training. The only concern I have had is that in coming here for a year I have worked with over a dozen different trainers. I understand that this is a part time job for them and most work two or more jobs, but it gets frustrating when I work out several times in a row with one guy who gets to know me and my limits but then have to start all over with another one who sometimes gives me conflicting advice for technique. Hopefully future clients can get some more consistency with this. With that being said, 90% of the people I have worked with have been really great teachers coming from long histories of boxing and other martial arts.

All of this was spelled out in the contract and fine print but I gave up trying to keep up with the pings for my availability which was the same each week.

The two hours provided much more information than I could process at that time. In fact, the information seems to never stop flowing! The group atmosphere was warm and focused. My whole health is a priority. This was a natural progression in my self care. It was fun and the Bluebirds and Jay's tapped wildly on the glass. My gratitude is immense for Commander Arriale and The Alliance. Thank you!

I come from a very results-driven background--fitness, strength training, and nutrition--so I've always focused almost entirely on the physical side of health. The spiritual side is something I'm newer to, and I'm realizing it's probably been the missing piece of my puzzle. Arriale has been incredibly supportive, consistent and very intuitive throughout the process. She takes the time to listen, and you can tell she genuinely cares about her clients. The results aren't always immediate or obvious especially for a results driven Type A, but I have noticed increased awareness, mental clarity, and a better understanding of certain patterns that may have been impacting my overall well-being for decades. I also appreciate that we're tracking biomarkers and connecting this work back to real health outcomes, which gives it more substance and satisfies my goal seeking persona. This isn't a quick fix--it's a different layer of the process. And for me, it's been a reminder that health isn't just physical.
