We visited Tosca while in Geneva, primarily because we knew it had recently been awarded a Michelin star. It's in an unassuming location that looks pretty casual from the outside, but the inside has elaborate ceiling paintings and dramatic lighting. We were dressed casually but you would not be out of place in more formal attire. There are probably 40 place settings at most.
We enjoyed great service (several different waiters, but they were all well coordinated). The food was pretty great, though in some ways I have to say I was expecting more given the recognition Tosca has received--this was an excellent meal, but not like the best meal I've ever had. There were a few amuse bouche offerings: one with fish, a savory cracker, and the best gazpacho I've ever had with the most flavor packed and bursting baby tomatoes. I ordered a mushroom inclined risotto appetizer which was a huge serving and had some fun details (see photos), including a tomato based sauce underneath (though this part was intentionally cold, which was a little weird). My entree was a veal filet that was presented as sort of a roulade. I honestly don't know what all was going on with it, but it had some tasty accompaniments. There was a pre-dessert palate cleanser with citrus flavors. For dessert, we had dish that included chocolate a few ways with cherries soaked in something that was tasty. We did not drink any alcohol. Our bill (with my husband having his own appetizer and entree) was about $215 USD.
Don't get me wrong, the food all tasted great. Honestly, some of our favorite things were the freebies we didn't order--the breads, the amuse bouche, etc. The portions and timing of delivery were good, and we didn't leave stuffed. I would certainly recommend going here for a great meal. I suspect the Michelin star may be influenced by the extensive wine list. read more
