Full disclosure: I played "out of my head" yesterday (9 pars and 2 birdies) so, of course, the…read moreplace is going to get a good review--as any time a player plays well on a course, they almost certainly are going to hold it in their hearts as someplace special. That being said...
Even if I had played like I normally do, this place...this most-sacred place of hallowed and consecrated greens and fairways...this place, where so many maintenance crew workers, cute cart girls, and strict-but-caring course rangers dedicated themselves to excellence, so that golfers at San Ignacio could swing free.. it would still merit very high marks. I am now engaged in a great yelp review, sharing my opinion on whether this golf course or any golf-course so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. (If you had not noticed, I am giving a slight-homage to Lincoln's Gettysburg address--just go with it, as I am in an experimental phase of yelp review writing)
I found Sand Ignacio to have all the ingredients needed to satisfy golfers from all parts of spectrum of play--beginners, mid-handicaps and even those souls who tee up from the tips will all find this place has something good to offer.
The course is exceptionally well maintained. I love it when courses have almost zero debris on the green stuff, and the amount of trash that is to be found is similar to what one finds in a large Japanese city (we were in Tokyo three years ago and found a single piece of trash on a 1/2 mile morning walk. One piece of trash in a whole city!!! ) The staff here at San Ignacio is top-notch-professional, they are welcoming and there is a caring vibe throughout. . The holes are challenging--but not so much that they are un-score-able. Putting surfaces were a bit fuzzy, as it is the season of re-seeding, but truth be told, my style of play is helped by greens that hold your balls
(Oh, boy, the "Jr. High kid" part of my brain really wants to make a joke with that innuendo. NOPE. I am too mature to do so, so let's move on...)
The world will little note, nor long remember, what I say here, but it can never forget what they, the staff of "San Ig" did here. It is for us the playing golfers, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who work at this golf club have thus-far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us, that from these honored workers we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion, that we here highly resolve that the San Ignacio staff shall not have toiled in vain, that this golf course, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that a public course of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
I am not sure if enough people are familiar with ol' Abe Lincoln's "Four score and 7 years ago speech" to allow this goofy yelp review with a Gettysburg Address vibe, to make sense. But it is worth a gander, as it reminds the reader of the ideals of what this country should stand for. Kind-of like how playing golf at San Ignacio reminds players of what golf was intended to be about. Five stars San Ignacio! Five stars! If I could give another half-star, you would merit it!!!
