I visited Toronto some years back and had an awesome time. It was an awesome but extremely cold night and I ventured here for a quick photo op. I think visiting at night is better picture wise-- despite the cold weather there were quite a lot of folks here taking in the sights, taking pictures and doing a little skating. I would definitely recommend making this a stop on your visit!

Wonderful place to visit. The fountain and all the fellow tourists looking for a gap between other tourists to snap a selfie or family shot avoiding the photo bombs.. lol

It was the Canadian Thanksgiving and we could only assume everyone was home renting dinner. Good thing there was not a very large crowd out in the afternoon. This was one of 3 places we stopped that afternoon. It was a great place to visit to get pictures with the family!

No trip to Toronto would be complete without a visit to this sign. It serves at the backdrop to Nathan Phillips Square's Ice Skating Rink. There is metered street parking available within a reasonable walking distance and an easily accessible parking garage right under the square. I parked in the garage. It was very easy. You will see "TORONTO" flanked by a maple leaf on the left and a medicine wheel symbol (Representing North American Indigenous cultural values, tradition and spirituality. Its four directions [East, South, West and North] symbolize completeness, wholeness, connectedness and strength) on the right. The sign is 9.8 feet tall and over 72 feet long It is lit by LED lights that are rumored to have the ability to create an estimated 228 million color combinations. It only used one while I was there, blue. It was installed for the 2015 Pan American Games as a temporary fixture, but luckily has survived and I was able to experience it for myself. I wish I could have seen it more colorful though. I really liked this sign and made it a point to see it. Nothing is more Canadian than having ice skating in the foreground of the sign. It was a beautiful sight to see. The sign can be viewed in the day, but I am sure that the best view of it is at night. That is when I visited. I highly recommend checking this sight out for yourself while in Toronto. It just draws you in and makes for a great post card photo.

I went here two times during my recent Canada trip. The first time was on a Thursday around 10:19am and the second time I went here was on a Saturday around 12:11am after my Niagara Falls Zoom tour that I went on, on Friday. This place is located at the same area as Nathan Phillips Square. Anyways, when I went here around 10:19am, there was some people, but it wasn't too empty. It was nice taking pictures there during the daytime since there's more people to help you take pictures if you need it. I also noticed they have an area to buy snacks and other small food items there too during the day, so that's cool. When I went here around 12:11am, it was even more empty, but there was still some people. It did feel kinda creepy being out there at that time though since people were doing drugs over there at night. It was still pretty over there at night because the sign was lit up and you can see it change colors. I'd recommend this place! Both the day and nighttime views of the Toronto sign is pretty, but I guess it depends on what you're into. Also, it's more dangerous in that area at night, so I think I would recommend the daytime view better if you want pictures of yourself with the sign too.

Arrived late so we could see the colors changing and less of a crowd and it worked out perfectly. Found parking immediately out on the street. Downside was that they had a marathon so a lot of the surrounding sign was blocked off.

Was googling all the To-Dos in Toronto and didn't want to miss this place .. beautiful background and loved the Toronto wordings .. best spot to take family photos ... it was crowded though . Loved the water fountain and kids enjoyed . Missed seeing this after hours . I'm sure the lighting is awesome in the dark . ... was a long walk to this place though. We weren't sure of tram routes and had to walk 25 mins to reach this place ...

The place's theme was sustainability ad protecting the earth, and they made it pretty engaging. There are also things to interact with and watch. The VR with the tablets was actually surprisingly cool. Each room in the experience was so spectacularly made that it was breathtaking. Finally, the virtual reality experience at the end was one of the coolest things I have ever done in Toronto. Before you go, note that it is heavily reliant on technology. It is also best to have storage to download the app on your phone, unless you want to borrow a tablet. This was a cool experience that I would recommend for people of all ages.

I love how they combine art + technology to teach about climate change in a way that's easy for kids to understand. The VR feature and interactive elements were fun, and it's definitely a great place for families or anyone looking for something different to do in Toronto. That said, for the price (~$39), it may feel a bit short for some people, and it's more of a "go once" type of experience. Still, I appreciate the message behind it and think it's worth checking out at least once--especially with kids!

After I imbibed at Old Flame Brewing Co., I explored The Distillery Historic District where it was located for a leisurely first evening in Toronto. Over 20 years ago, a small group of visionary developers looked at a derelict collection of Victorian Industrial buildings that had been pronounced a national historic site and imagined transforming it. They wanted to create a place that would excite and inspire the senses. Where people could experience new ideas, new foods, new designs and new ways of living and working. The vision was to combine the romance and relaxing atmosphere of European walking and patio districts with the hip, cool dynamic of an area like New York City's SoHo or Chelsea, where creative minds got together and you felt as if anything could happen. Their dream was to provide a place where artists, artisans, entrepreneurs and businesspeople could rub shoulders and inspire each other. So, they began plans to restore the 47 buildings known as the Gooderham & Worts Distillery. They went to great lengths in the restoration process to repurpose original materials and brilliantly blend them with today's modern materials and green technologies. One could only marvel at the authentic exterior restoration that was achieved. But it was when you stepped inside the buildings that you truly realized the magnitude of what was accomplished. What you found was a dramatic fusion of old and new. An inspired blend of Victorian Industrial architecture and stunning 21st century design and creativity. The result was an internationally acclaimed village of one-of-a-kind stores, shops, galleries, studios, restaurants, cafes, theatres and more. The Distillery Historic District opened in 2003 and today is widely regarded as Canada's premier arts, culture and entertainment destination. A place brimming with creativity and creative people, that could inspire dreams, and a place that could help them come true. Was history on my side to revisit this district that actually had a distillery shop onsite that I missed!? PURCHASE(S) (N/A): I spent some money at Old Flame Brewing Co. (read my review of that) but nowhere else, and certainly nothing directly with the facility itself. Of course, you had ample opportunity to spend your money with other businesses or onsite parking, or simply nothing at all as you just hung out. EXPERIENCE I lazily walked throughout the premises as I checked out the storefronts of mostly closed businesses for the night, people-watched, but mainly admired several art displays https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=1tmuPlZ1LXRKNJC6ViM-vw and enjoyed the nice cool evening weather. SERVICE Besides the employees who worked inside the various businesses and possibly a guard who managed the parking lots, there were no other services available. At this time of night, I didn't see any cleaning crew or security staff - "nuff said. PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): It was a flat 15-minute walk from my Airbnb. Otherwise, there were both onsite and offsite lots, numerous public transportation options, and rideshares - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A large outdoor area filled with 19th-Century buildings repaired and repurposed to house new businesses https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=fGw7y2G0RTwKqQnQ6VEynA with walking paths https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=xf2flq93fGxjt4L2oJAhmw and open sections for gatherings and live entertainment, and a decent amount of places to sit. Plenty of natural lighting since you were completely outside while a ton of various electric lights and those along the street filled in the rest. There were no TVs on the exterior while the only background noise were the sounds of passing vehicles and the chatter of patrons. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=oF-rbwyZqdtP9nryC8CVRA ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL The Distillery Historic District was very cool, and I would gladly visit it again the next time I was in Toronto. There were so many things to try and take part in given a full day. There were enough varied businesses to spread the money around... or simply just chill. And, I always loved supporting small businesses and efforts whenever possible. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, many of businesses accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS
