Can you believe I've never been to Salvo's until yesterday? No, neither can I. I'm not sure what's…read morehappened -I planned to plenty of times, but something always came up. Well, yesterday, whilst it rained and thundered, my friend and I chose to venture out on a hunt for something to eat. In the end we picked Salvo's, and I'm really pleased we did. The restaurant itself is extremely pleasant; the space is open, inviting, clean and has some wonderful decoration-including huge prints of the original Salvo himself, along with the chaps who set up the restaurant with him back in the day. The menus have lovely insights into the business, and it's always lovely to see where a place of such high regard comes from, and it's lovely to look at whilst perusing what to eat. The staff were all absolutely fantastic, all fully friendly, and ready to help. Each person that served us made sure everything was perfect, which all goes toward a better experience. To be fair, I should have taken the advice of our waiter, since I insisted on having chips to go with my pot roast beef (yep, being really British there) and he was sure I wouldn't need them. I didn't! I opted for the Pot Roast Beef, which was a huge slow roasted steak, with delicious vegetables -onion, carrots, courgettes, and more. There were also three huge roast potatoes, an amazing gravy, and some incredible sugared bits of fruit -like glacier cherries, or something, which worked incredibly with the dish. The only thing I didn't enjoy so much were the potatoes, since they weren't very crispy, and I'm not a fan of dry food -I should have asked for some extra gravy, to help soak up the spuds. Even so, this is a minor thing. The side dish of veg and chips were also delicious, and my friend's lasagna was a thing to be jealous of, even with a dish of pot roast in front of me! All in all, our bill came to about £40, which was incredibly reasonable considering the quality of what we consumed. I can't wait to go back and try some of the pasta, which is unusual for me, as usually it's the last thing I would want to try. As well as that they've a really fantastic range of Italian beers, so those will be worth going back for as well. Lovely staff, quality food which you can see being made freshly from their open kitchen, and a delicious menu. Those wanting to save cash can always opt for £15 meal deal on a Sunday - two courses! Check them out!

I firmly believe that Salvo's is the finest Italian restaurant in Leeds. I think I need to break…read morethis down into bullet points otherwise I'll gush. Location: excellent, just removed from the rowdy part of Headingley but near enough to allow you to hit the bars afterwards. Service: Polite, fast and informed. Atmosphere: Relaxed, casual yet lively. Good for date or for group meals. Food: Simple yet somehow the nicest Italian food I've ever had. Everything you would expect, pastas, seafood, chicken. And of course pizzas. Real Neapolitan style pizzas with thin bases, fresh tomatoes and mozzarella, gorgeous toppings and drizzles of oil and seasoning. Drink: Extensive wine menu. The owners love their wine so much they have opened a wine bar upstairs in a tribute to their mother. Sadly, I haven't experienced this yet. Italian factor: Very noticeable. The owners are two Italian-English brothers who execute homage to their heritage perfectly. I know I ended up gushing, but basically, what I'm trying to say is GO. NOW.

I did a review not so long ago on a little place called Gringos in Huddersfield. Gorgeous Mexican…read morefood, mega portions, great value for money, taste superb. Next door is Cibos, this time the food of choice is Italian, not Mexican. Situated under the railway arches, light isn't a premium in here, but it makes for a nice cosy atmosphere, although for eating purposes, maybe red isn't a brilliant wall colour choice as it sucks all the light from the room into the walls. The impression from the tablewear is rustic in appeal, but the wall art states aspirations of a higher ground. Tables are packed in tightly and there's little room for movement when this place is busy. The last time we went was a Christmas do, and with 16 of us it was a tight fit for elbow room that in addition to another large party behind us left us rather intimate with each other for all the WRONG reasons that night. But it was fun in a weird let's not get rattled by this kinda way. I think it would be fair to say that Cibo's has illusions of grandeur when it comes to self image, that unfortunately don't quite cut the mustard. Don't get me wrong they're nearly there, but for the size of the place, versus the quality of the product, prices run high. Base judgement, Margherita pizza is £8. To me that's expensive for a basic Margherita. Starters and sides are expensive, portions are on the larger side of average, so that's a bonus. Pasta averages at £8.50 with a high of £9.25. Meat grills are upwards of £17. The night we went the majority of us ordered off the set Christmas menu, we were a couple of minutes late getting into the restaurant, but it didn't matter as the place was heaving with people. From when we were seated to actual food arriving it was around the two hour mark, they were given leniency for the Christmas period, but for heaven's sake it was a set menu. Cibos does set itself out as an authentic Italian cuisine restaurant, but the people who were pleased with their meals were those who ordered things not innately Italian, such as the fish dishes, or good ole fashioned steaks. Those with pizzas and pastas weren't so impressed. Over doughy pizza bases and tacky pasta could have been a by product of the busy night, but with so many dishes turning out as such, I'm taking it for a normal as opposed to an unusual. For us the night worked out relatively reasonable price wise, and true to their word, they do have an extensive wine list, as tested by many of my colleagues during our wait. My recommendation is try it on a quiet night and see what you think but avoid avoid avoid during busy periods. 2.5 Stars would be more apt.
