pretty good! we stopped by on a wednesday evening after walking around cannery row all day. located in downtown monterey, this place offers a wide variety of ramen as well as rice bowls and poke. the interior is cozy, with a decent amount of seating for the size. it is more of a self service establishment, so you pick your own table and order your food from a tablet. that being said, staff is friendly and helpful. we got spicy tonkostu bowls, which is around $17 before tax. the ramen is delicious and the broth is rich and creamy. the noodles were not too soft or too hard, and didn't become soggy as we ate. oddly enough, the egg was our favorite part of our meal! there's not much to say other than the food is delicious and reasonably priced. ramen where i'm from is a lot pricier and lesser in quality. definitely will return when we are back in the area. read more

The flavor was pretty good, lots of noodles, which I love, very filling and a great portion. It was a tad expensive, but I'm sure the location has something to do with it. My partner and I got ramen delivery. It was packed well. On doordash, you can customize a lot of the ramen. The spicy tonkatsu was very good and a good balance of spicy. I think it had a little too much wood ear mushroom, but I appreciated that they didn't skimp on any of the other standard ingredients, like pork and bean sprouts. The noodles are cooked to perfection, and the presentation of the bowl, is simple, yet elegant. This establishment has a fun self-service type of system where you order from an iPad, and pick the number of your table. Perhaps they used some chicken bones in their broth, but overall, the broth leaves much to be desired. Does it remind me of the MSG soup in instant noodles? Yes, it does. The charshu tastes okay, although it could be more flavorful. The fully marinated egg with a jelly-like yolk becomes the unexpected highlight of the bowl. The curly and slightly bouncy noodles have an instant noodles vibe too. However, they are well-cooked, if this were a bowl of homemade instant noodles... I've came here for a few years now, quality in the broth has gone down a lot, which is one of the reasons I won't be coming back. The ramen was steaming as if it was hot, but was lukewarm. The service has always been good here on the bright side! They're very nice and attentive if you need anything. Tip: if you get cold easily I suggest sitting in the back of the restaurant or bringing an extra jacket. We were excited to find a ramen restaurant in the area during our latest visit. And it was nearby, so our take-out order wouldn't get cold on the way back. Online ordering was convenient and straight forward. The restaurant was packed when we arrived to pick up our order. Seating was full, and there was a line of people waiting. This is certainly a popular place. Glad we decided to do take-out. Love the take-out bowls they use. They're large enough for you to pour broth into them and actually eat from them. This is because the take-out bowls are more "bowl" shaped, and they leave enough empty space to pour the broth into the bowl. Most ramen take-out I've had required reassembling in my own large bowl at home, so I found this to be a nice convenience especially since we were traveling and not at home. (But we had planned ahead and packed our own large ramen bowls from home just in case we needed them during our trip.) Paitan Ramen ($15.95) --- 9/10 Described as a "creamy pork-chicken broth". I think "creamy garlic broth" would be a better description, as this is the prominent flavor in the broth. Definitely no mistaking the garlic flavor. They even add lots of thinly sliced garlic. I love garlic so of course I would find this Paitan Ramen to be the best out of the three we ordered. Yummy stuff! The bamboo shoots were on the sweet side, and the broth overall skewed on the sweeter side. Their pork comes in a thick slice. Would definitely order this one again. Shoyu Ramen ($14.50) -- 5/10 It was just ok. The broth is just average after tasting the broth in the Tonkatsu Ramen and the Paitan Ramen, which were more flavorful than the Shoyu Ramen. Tonkatsu Ramen ($15.95) -- 8/10 This ramen had a creamy tonkatsu broth that was quite delicious. The kiddo thought the bamboo shoots were on the softer side; she likes them a bit more firm/crunchy. The ramen noodles were just right, not too soft/mushy. Chicken Karaage ($7.95) -- 8/10 The fried chicken came with a sriracha dipping sauce that gave you a mild slow burn. The chicken pieces were good. Definitely had a good amount of chicken meat in each piece, and it wasn't overly battered or over fried. Living in LA for a decade, there was no shortage of good ramen. When I moved to the central coast, I couldn't find a good spot until Toribashi. The ramen is phenomenal (I typically get the miso, but everything I've tried has been 10/10) the portions are huge (enough for 2 meals), and the ingredients are top notch. You can also make a plethora of modifications / additions, etc. which is nice. I've only ever gotten ramen to go, but the staff has been so friendly and kind every time I've popped in to pick up my order. I definitely want to try dine in soon. The only thing I'd add, is I wish you could still order Toribashi via delivery (Doordash, etc). I realize these services often take a huge cut, which may be why they stopped using third party services, but it was great to be able to order this way. They close for lunch at 2, so it can be tough to go pick it up during work hours. read more
