I'm letting my son write this for me because he is much more knowledgeable in terms of fashion. Basically, Topshop (or Topman upstairs) is the place for fashionable clothes, shoes and accessories. Sales are frequent and actually quite decent. Staff are as helpful as you expect them to be, as, to be honest, you do not often have to ask for help in a clothes shop! Prices are quite high, but this is to be expected with fashionable clothing, and clothes are of a reasonable standard. In all, one of the best places in town for fashion, even if the prices are a bit steep. read more

I'm not a fan of topshop clothes mostly, preferring something a little more casual but the Colchester store is actually quite impressive. They've managed to fit a lot of clothes into such a small store and kept it relatively spacious aswell. There is a good range of both male and female clothing, and a small selection of shoes and underwear. I have found the staff to be quite helpful in my experience, only having one problem with a girl who seemed to be a bit snobbish. All in all, a good place to go for high street trends and worth a look if you are in the area. read more

this place is great if you want to look realy bland, but not like a geek. I mean my dad can look quite geeky sometimes and he does not shop here. I wanted to be bland, so I dont stand out. but often when you try that you end up standing out for even worse reasons than 'i want to be able to put on a character as and when i need to and otherwise look like a nobody'. its great to look bland, you are much less likley to get beaten up. you can occasionally dress differently, people expect little of you. good clothes though in all honesty, simple and effective. read more

This is my favourite shop in terms of the way it adapts catwalk fashions into wearable alternatives. The store itself is medium-sized with the menswear upstairs and ladies on the ground floor. It's right in the heart of town so there's no excuse not to pay a visit. There is always a good value basics range, but I do find some of the fashion items a little expensive. Stiil worth a look though. read more
